Chapter 1555
Courtney put on a show, but Jeremy wouldnât buy it. He didnât even spare Courtney a glance, taking Corneliaâs hand and saying, âLetâs go.â
Cornelia gently tugged at his sleeve, whispering, âHoney, weâre here already. Letâs sort this out so she wonât bother us in the future.â
At Corneliaâs urging, Jeremy finally paused, turning to look at Courtney with cold eyes. âLetâs be clear, itâs you whoâs been nagging to see me, not the other way around.â
âYeah, yeah, itâs all me. After all, you are my own flesh and blood,â Courtney said, as if their relationship were just like any other mother and sonâs. âParents always owe their children, not the other way around.â
But Jeremy wouldnât show her any respect. âDonât give me that. You know the real nature of our relationship better than I do. State your business. I donât want to waste any more time on you.â
âOh, Marc, I just missed you.â Courtney tried to play the loving mother, even though she had never really been there for him.
Knowing that she had no way to manipulate Jeremy, she switched targets. âCornelia, look at your husband and the way he speaks to his own mother.âe2
Jeremy cut in, âState your business and leave Cornelia out of it. Our problems existed before I even met her. Donât try to blame her.â
Courtney played the victim. âMarc, I just want to talk with my daughter-in-law. Canât I do that?â
Jeremy replied coldly, âNo!â
Ignoring his refusal, Courtney continued, âYouâve been married to Cornelia for years, you have a child together, and yet, Iâve never had the chance to really talk with her or hold my grandchild. Canât you give us some time alone?â
Jeremy wouldnât dream of leaving Cornelia alone with this toxic woman. âLeaving her here for you to bully? Dream on!â
Courtney pleaded, âMarc, I just want to bond with my daughter-in-law. Why does that sound so disturbing to you?â
Cornelia quietly tugged at Jeremy again. âHoney, why donât you go grab a coffee, and Iâll chat with Mrs. Hartley?â
Jeremy hesitated, âCorneliaâ¦â
Cornelia winked at him. âI know my limits.â
Seeing Corneliaâs determination, Jeremy handed her a small alarm device. âIf anything happens, press this, and Iâll know.â
Cornelia nodded. âOkay.â
With Cornelia briefed, Jeremy finally left, not giving Courtney a second glance. Cornelia watched him go.
Courtney sighed, âCornelia, I see how much you two love each other, but thereâs no need to flaunt it in front of an old lady like me. Please, letâs talk and bond.â
Cornelia was not at all surprised that Courtney would try to use her as a way in.
