Chapter 1410
Hannah asked, âWhy?â
Jarvis answered, âBecause the Hartley Group went bankrupt. Marcus is flat broke and up to his eyeballs in debt. So he pulled a fast one and faked his own death to skip out on his bills. Donât you think people like him who fake their deaths and change their names to dodge debts should be looked down upon? I just canât wrap my head around why Comelia still sticks up for him. Has she been bamboozled by him?â
Hannah didnât say anything for a moment.
Jarvis went on, âI gotta have a chat with Old Augustine about this. Get him to dig into whether Corneliaâs been hoodwinked by Marcus. How could she possibly still be so into this guy and so protective of him?â
Hannah said, âMaybe itâs because youâre an outsider. You only see the side of Marcus he wants you to see. As for what heâs really like, I believe no one knows better than Comelia.â She had known Cornelia for so long and knew her personality well. If Cornelia was that protective of Marcus, he must have something going for
him.
Jarvis said, âI gotta go. I need to call Old Augustine.â
In a rush, Hannah said, âJarvis, Iâm in a tight spot right now. Canât you stop poking your nose into Cornelia and her husbandâs business? To be honest, not only does Cornelia think her husband is great, but I also think heâs pretty solid.â
Jarvis asked, âIs he better than me?â
Hannah said, âDo you want the truth?â
Jarvis said, âI donât want to hear anything unpleasant.â
Hannah said, âIf you donât want to hear it, then quit comparing yourself to Marcus. We should be focusing on our deal.â
Jarvis said, âLay it on me. Whatâs your offer? Make it worth my effort.â
Hannah said, âMy house in Blueshell Mansion is worth a hundred million. If you step in, you could get a hundred million in assets. Thatâs not a bad deal for you. Youâre a businessman; you wouldnât pass up money, would you?â
Jarvis said, âHannah, you should know the last thing I need is money. Trying to tempt me with cash? Looks like youâre barking up the wrong tree.â
Once, Hannah had heard Steven say that no one ever said they had too much money. If she was negotiating and the other person said they were not interested in the money, it meant she was not offering enough, nowhere near enough to make them bend. She added, âMy contract with my current agency is about to expire. I was planning to go independent, but now I can give you a shot at being my boss. As long as you help me out this time, half of what I earn in the future could be yours.â
As long as the crisis was averted, Hannah was a guaranteed box office hit and she could make quite a lot of money. This figure was indeed tempting.
But Jarvis had never cared about money, he said, âSweetheart, Iâve already told you, money wonât sway me. Give me an offer I canât refuse.â
But apart from money, Hannah had no idea what else she could offer. âWhat do you want, then?â Hannah asked.
Jarvis said, âI want to be with Cornelia!â
Hannah looked at him and retorted, âYouâre dreaming.â
Jarvis responded, âThen we have nothing more to discuss.â
Hannah figured he wasnât really interested in hanging up the phone, so on a whim, she had an idea, âIf you help me out of my mess, Iâll do whatever you need me to do in the future.â
The offer sounded pretty good. But it still wasnât enough to make Jarvis bite. Just then, his phone beeped. He mustâve gotten a new message. He glanced at it and said, âSend me the address.â
