Chapter 1314
Hannah excitedly babbled on the phone, âNelly, the TV show I was supposed to do has hit a snag. The investors have pulled out and itâs not happening now, so my scheduleâs all cleared up.â
Comelia chuckled, âSo why are you sounding so thrilled that your TV show fell through?â
Hannah replied, âBecause now I can do yours first. My agent has already hashed things out with Foriver Entertainment. Weâre gonna start shooting right after Christmas. Youâll be on set too as the screenwriter. Weâll be able to hang out every day.â
Comelia was buzzing about the upcoming script, âThatâs wicked. Iâm looking forward to it too.â
Hannah asked, âWhen are you due? I need to know if the timingâs gonna work.â
Comelia answered, âMarch. But itâs no biggie, I can still work.â
Hannah worried, âItâs already December, and youâre due in just over two months. Lugging around a baby bump on set is gonna be tough. Maybe I should tweak the schedule, we can shoot after the babyâs born.â
Cornelia brushed it off, âSome people have it tougher and manage to work while pregnant. I can do it too. Plus, my babyâs a dream, never gives me any trouble.â
Hannah thought for a moment, âAlright, Iâll get some extra hands to look after you then, make sure youâre not overdoing it.â
Cornelia laughed, âI donât need babysitting. I can manage myself. I do need to pick your brain about something though, you got a minute?â
Hannah asked, âSure, whatâs up?â
Cornelia said, âItâs about the script.â
Hannah, being an actress, knew a thing or two about scripts. She gave Cornelia some solid advice, which Cornelia gratefully took onboard.
After discussing the script, they chitâchatted about this and that. Then Hannah casually mentioned Marcus, âI havenât heard from Marcus in a while, wonder if the rumors are true.â
Realizing sheâd put her foot in it, Hannah wished she could take it back, âNelly.â
Cornelia just laughed, âThe Hartley Group going belly up, Brennen getting arrested and Marcus possibly dead. Itâs all over the news, hard to miss.â
Hannah asked, âSo, youâ¦â
Cornelia said, âIâm done with him. What happens to him now is none of my business.â
Hannah said, âIf you can truly put him behind you, thatâd be great.â She thought Cornelia mightâve been bluffing.
Cornelia said, âIâve got another call coming in, got to go.â
Hannah said, âAlright.â
The incoming call was from Frankie, the director at Foriver Entertainment, âCornelia, weâve gone over your script.â
Cornelia asked, âAnd?â
Frankie said, âI know youâve put your heart and soul into this script, and spent a lot of time on it. But youâre not a professional screenwriter and there are too many mistakes in it.â
Cornelia asked, âSo?â
Frankie said, âIâm just letting you know, you donât have to keep working on this script. Weâre gonna bring in a professional screenwriter to take
over.â
Cornelia said, âThatâs not what you said when I submitted the script a few days ago.â
Frankie said, âWell, youâre and we didnât want to squash your enthusiasm, so everyone tried to be positive. Anyway, just thought Iâd let you know. Christmas is coming, have a good one. With that, Frankie hung up, leaving Cornelia with a bunch of unanswered questions.
Cornelia had a hunch sheâd been used. Hannah had warned her that newbie writers often get shafted, sometimes not even getting credit for their work. So she was careful to have evidence for every interaction and script submission.
If Foriver Entertainment didnât want her script and wouldnât pay her, she could only chalk it up as time wasted. But if they wanted to use her script without paying her, or even worse, credit someone else for her work, she sure as hell wasnât gonna let them off the hook.
