Chapter 1231
A little over half an hour later, they were back at Lakeview Estates The place had been empty for a few days and was a bit dusty Zack and Patricia helped Cornelia clean up
the place.
Tahliaâs room was spotless, not a trace of her left. She didnât seem to plan on coming back. Cornelia hid her pain and told Patricia, âYou can have this room from now on.â
âSureâ
After sorting out Patriciaâs accommodation, Zack tried to talk to Cornelia but hesitated
Cornelia, not in the mood for a deep conversation, said, âItâs late, and we have work tomorrow. You should head home and get some sleep.â
âWhat? Sleep? How can I sleep without knowing whatâs going on?â Zack pulled Cornelia to sit on the living room couch, âTell me straight, why did you suddenly get a divorce?
Cornelia shrugged nonchalantly, âDidnât feel like being married anymore, so I got a divorceâ
Zack said angrily in a raised voice, âCornelia, I get that you want to put on a brave face for others, but do you need to do that with me? Havenât I seen you at your worst?â
âThatâs the truth Why are you so mad?â Cornelia retorted
Zack was about to explode. âYou protected Marcus like crazy before. Even a bad word about hirn would set you off. You told us countless times that you wanted to be with him forever Now, all of a sudden, you guys are divorced. Do you expect me to believe nothing happened?â
âLet the past be the past. Thereâs nothing to talk about.â Cornelia didnât want to bring up Marcus again.
Zack was so mad he wanted to strangle her, âCornelia, are you trying to kill me with frustration?â
Cornelia didnât respond.
Zack warned. âDonât think by staying silent Iâll stop asking. You need to tell me what happened, or no oneâs getting any sleep tonight.â
Cornelia still didnât respond
âCornelia!â Zack was fuming.
âWhat do you want me to say?â Cornelia looked at Zack, her eyes clear and beautiful. âSay he fell for another woman? That he brought her home for the night? That he was nice to her in front of me, but ignored meâ¦â
Her eyes welled up with tears as she spoke, but she held them back.
Zack was furious, his anger reaching its peak, âMarcus fell for another woman? Who is she?â
Before Cornelia could answer, a face flashed through his mind, âIs it Tahlia?â
âDoes it matter? Does knowing who she is matter?â
Zack retorted, âDoesnât it? Maybe it really doesnât! I canât believe Marcus could do something like this. I thought he was different, trustworthy, that he would always treat you
rightâ¦
Zack held Cornelia tightly, gently patting her back, âCornelia, cry it out. Let all the pain flow out with your tears. After tonight, donât shed another tear for this undeserving
man.â
Cornelia forced a smile, holding back her tears, âI wonât cry for a man who doesnât deserve it.â
âCrying doesnât make you weak.â Zack looked at Corneliaâs brave face, his heart aching
He used to think that Cornelia had finally found a good man, that someone would take care of her, and he could safely leave her to Marcus. Who wouldâve thought it would end up in divorce?
âAll I did was see a manâs true colors and got a divorce. Nothing to cry about,â Cornelia said stubbornly.
âYouâre always so strong. Zack sighed.
âDo I have a choice?â Cornelia gave a bitter smile.
