Chapter 1204
Cornelia chuckled, not giving a response
Patricia mistakenly thought that Cornelia had chosen to quit her job, unaware that it was actually Marcus who had asked her to leave Marcusâ excuse was that he wanted Cornelia to focus on her own work. Cornelia once said she wanted to stay by his side, to work with him, but he didnât want her in his work environment.
Back in her room, Cornelia was no longer sleepy. She stared at the ceiling, her eyes wide open
A myriad of images flashed through her mind. From the first time she met Marcus, to working with him, to him protecting her at the risk of offending his partners. Every moment with him was as clear as a film.
The Marcus Cornelia knew was definitely not a man who would betray his marriage. Cornelia didnât want to think too much. The more she thought about certain things, the worse she felt. She wanted to ask Marcus directly and tell him her thoughts straight away.
So, she took out her phone and dialed Marcusâ number. The phone rang and was picked up almost immediately. Before the other party could speak, Cornelia blurted out, âJeremy, I like you! I really, really like you! Come home early today, I want to have a serious chat with you.â
After she said this. Tahliaâs voice came through the phone, âNelly, itâs me. President Hartley is reviewing an important document and doesnât have time to take the call, so he asked me to answer it for him.â
Cornelia was speechless.
Tahlia added, âIf you donât have anything else, Iâm going to hang up.â
Subconsciously, Cornelia nodded, then said, âDonât hang up. I have something else. Tell President Hartley to take the call. I want to talk to him personally
Tahliaâs voice reached Corneliaâs ear again through the phone, âPresident Hartley, Mrs. Hartley wants to talk to you, do you want to take it?â
Then, Cornelia heard Marcus say. âTell her, Iâm busy.â
Tahlia said, âNellyâ¦.
Cornelia responded coldly, âLet Marcus answer the phone.â
Cornelia couldnât understand why Marcus had changed so much in just a few days, not even wanting to talk to her. She had to figure it out!
The phone finally reached Marcus, but instead of answering the call, Cornelia heard the sound of him hanging up.
And before hanging up, he told Tahlia, âIâm busy working, so you can help me reject all calls, including Mrs. Hartleyâs!â
Somehow, hearing this didnât make Cornelia feel as bad as she thought she would. This man definitely was not Jeremy! Her Jeremy wouldnât treat her like this.
It was very possible that the nasty Brennen was causing trouble, making Cornelia believe Marcus had betrayed her, hence causing her to resent Marcus. But Cornelia was no
fool, she wouldnât fall into Brennenâs trap. So, Cornelia dialed Aydenâs number, âAyden, someone might be impersonating Marcus, can you check for me?â
She thought Ayden would agree with her, but instead, she heard him say, âWhat youâre seeing is the real President Hartley, no one is impersonating him.â
âAre you sure? Cornelia asked
Ayden continued, âHis height, his way of walking, and his elegance in action. Do you think these can be imitated?â
