Chapter 1201
Patricia stopped fretting and decided she would do whatever it took to protect her home. She wouldnât allow anyone to meddle in Marcus and Corneliaâs marriage or destroy their relationship.
Men, they were all the same, prone to occasional screwâups. But as long as they were set straight in time, life could carry on just fine
âMarc, weâre fresh out of beddings I washed some extra quilts today, and theyâre still out drying We might not be able to host Miss Tahlia for the night Iâll tell Austin to drive her home after dinner Patricia said, knowing full well there were spare beddings at home. But she knew Marcus well and trusted he would go along with her.
âMarc, youâve never been a fan of having too many people around Having an extra person might disturb your sleep! Patricia said, smiling at Tahlia, âMiss Tahlia, you wouldnât want to stay, would you?â
Tahlia looked at Marcus, âPresident Hartley, perhaps I should leave.â
Marcus looked at Patricia coldly. âIf you canât even manage this, I can find someone else to do itâ
Patricia didnât expect Marcus to defend Tahlia so fiercely, âNo, Marc.â
Marcus wanted Tahlia to stay a message Cornelia clearly got. She didnât want Patricia to cause further trouble, âPatricia must be tired today. Iâll handle it.â
âAppreciate it.â Marcus said.
This was Marcusâ reply to Cornelia. However, when Cornelia looked at him, his eyes had already shifted to Tahlia.
Cornelia wanted to say something but didnât know what to address. Dinner was finished in an odd atmosphere.
After dinner, Patricia cleaned up while Cornelia took Tahlia upstairs. Following Marcusâ instructions, she prepared a new room for Tahlia with fresh beddings and even made the bed for her.
*Tahlia, are you satisfied? If thereâs anything youâre not happy with, let me know, and Iâll try to fix it.â Cornelia said
Tahlia asked, âAre you mad at me?â
âWhy would I be mad at you?â Cornelia asked.
âMaybe because I insisted on staying overnight and made Patricia uncomfortable, Tahlia said.
Cornelia smiled, âWhat kind of person do you think I am? Patricia is our elder, and treats me like her own daughter, sometimes excessively protective. You donât need to be mad at her.â
âI wouldnât dare. Tahlia suddenly hugged Cornelia, âNellyâ
She kept calling Corneliaâs name but didnât say anything else. Cornelia patted her back, âWhatâs wrong?â
Tahlia said sincerely. âYou have to believe me. I truly love you. I donât want to come between you and President Hartley, but he insisted that i stay. After all, heâs my boss now I canât disobey him.â
Cornelia smiled, âOkay, I believe you. Itâs late, and you have to work with him in the morning, get some rest.â
Tahlia pleaded, âNelly, can you sleep with me tonight?â
Usually, Cornelia would agree to this request, but not tonight. Because she hadnât seen Marcus for a few days and she had a lot to talk to him about.
âTahlia, I have a lot to talk to Marc about tonight. Iâll sleep with you another night. Cornelia said.
Tahlia held on to Corneliaâs arm tightly. âNellyâ
Cornelia gently stroked her head. âWhatâs wrong? Work pressure getting to you?â
Tahlia shook her head, âNo, thereâs no pressure at work. President Hartley and Ben have been very kind to me, always ready to help whenever I donât understand somethingâ
âMarcus teaching you to work? Cornelia didnât know Marcus had time to mentor assistants.
She remembered when she first started working for Marcus, he had very high standards for her work. She followed him around anxiously every day, terrified she would make a mistake and get fired
