Chapter 1156
A couple of them were chatting away, back and forth. When they suddenly noticed that Emily, who was usually quite the chatterbox, hadnât said a word and looked a bit down in the dumps.
Brian pinched his own face, âWhatâs up with you?â
Emily replied, âSomething just crossed my mind. I think I overheard Grandpa Augustine mentioning that someone might be after Nelly. We canât let her go
back alone.â
Brian said, âWith all the bodyguards that Grandpa Augustine has arranged for Cornelia, it would be impossible for anyone to lay a finger on herâ Emily argued, âCornelia came here in our car, and we didnât tell the bodyguards she was leaving. What if they donât know sheâs gone, and thereâs no one
with herâ¦â
At this, Brian freaked out a bit, âWe need to let those bodyguards know right away that Cornelia has left. Sheâs going to be in her friendâs car, and they need to be aware.â
Meanwhile, Cornelia had already hopped into Aydenâs car.
Ayden was focused on driving. Cornelia, sitting in the backseat, pondered for a moment before asking, âWerenât you supposed to be on a business trip with Marcus?â
Ayden replied, âMy current duty is to stay by your side.â
Cornelia said, âSo your brother Jayden went with Marcus instead, right? Can you check where they are now?â
It was past noon at home, and early morning in France. By Marcusâ schedule, he shouldâve been awake, but he hadnât returned her call yet. Before getting into the car, Cornelia had called Marcus but no one answered.
Ayden said, âIâm sorry! Iâm not allowed to contact Jayden privately during a mission.â
Cornelia was speechless.
Ayden could tell Cornelia was on edge and tried to reassure her, âDonât worry, nothing will happen to Marcus.â
Cornelia had never expressed concern for Marcus, but with Ayden suddenly saying this, it raised her suspicions, âDid something happen to Marcus?â
Ayden was taken aback, âHow could that be! Mr. Hartleyâs got the luck of the Irish, heâll be fine.â
Before Cornelia could say anything else, her phone started to ring. It was a call from Marcus.
She picked up immediately, Jeremy, is that you?â
Marcusâ deep and sexy voice, tinged with a hint of amusement, came through the phone, âWho else could it be?â
After a day and night without hearing from Marcus, Cornelia finally breathed a sigh of relief. She asked softly, âDid you get the message I sent you?â
Marcus replied, âHmm, I got it.â
Cornelia said, âYou got it, but you donât have anything to say to me?â
Marcus replied, âStay in the Capital and keep old Augustine company for a few more days. Iâll come get you when I return from France.â
Cornelia said, âIs that what I wanted to talk about?â
Marcus asked, âThen what did you want to say?â
Cornelia replied, âDonât you miss me at all?â
