Chapter 1155
Brian stared at Cornelia, then said slowly after a moment of silence, âYouâre pretty scaryâ
âMs? Scary?â Cornelia didnât turn her head, her eyes still fixed on the big screen. The scene was gruesome, but Cornelia thought it was far less terrifying than the human heart.
She continued, âSo you guys want me to just let those who bully me continue to do so? I donât fight back and then you think Iâm a good girl?â
Brian was stunned, momentarily at a loss for words.
Cornelia let out a small laugh. Iâve never intended to hurt anyone, or even thought about how to harm you. Today, Iâve merely been responding to your provocations If anyoneâs scary, itâs you. Now youâre saying Iâm scary. Is it because Iâm not scared of you? Or because Iâm not a weak girl who just lets others bully her?â
âI didnât really want to do anything to you. 1 just wanted to test you.â Brian said.
âTest what?â Comelia asked.
âCharacter, courage, intelligence, and so on. The Duran family isnât ordinary. To live in such a family, you have to be extra careful, or you might not even know how youâve failed. Youâve passed the tests of courage and wisdom, and Iâm ready to officially accept you as a member of the Duran familyâ Brian
said.
âYouâre ready to accept me as a member of the Duran family?â Cornelia chuckled, âBrian, whether or not I become a member of the Duran family isnât up to you, nor anyone else. Only I can decideâ
Brian said, âYou were born and raised outside, in a normal family. You havenât been exposed to a big family like the Durans. You donât know the complexities here. Everyone, including us, has to face various tests from birth. Only those who pass these tests can really be accepted by the family.â
Cornelia wasnât interested, âThe complexity of the Duran family has nothing to do with me, and I donât care. All I care about is Grandpa Augustine.â
After finishing her words, Cornelia stood up, âThanks for your hospitality today, but I think Iâll head back now.â
Brian quickly stopped her, âYou havenât had lunch yet. If you leave now, Grandpa Augustine will surely blame us.â
âDonât worry, I wonât badmouth you.â Cornelia said.
Cornelia knew her limits. She could handle her own grievances. She would never bother Grandpa Augustine or put him in a difficult position.
Brian said, âIf youâre going back, weâll go with you.â
Cornelia refused, âNo need.â
Brian insisted, âThis is the suburbs. Thereâs no public transport to the city. Itâs not safe for a young, beautiful girl like you to take a cab alone.â
âThereâs no need for you to worry. I have my own way back. Cornelia took out her phone and dialed Aydenâs number, âAyden, are you there?â
Ever since Marcus had arranged for Ayden to stay by her side, Cornelia knew that Ayden would be wherever she went. But when she didnât need him, Ayden never disturbed her normal life.
Aydenâs calm and firm voice came through the phone, âSince this is a restricted area, I canât come in. I can only wait for you outside.â
Cornelia said, âI understand. Iâll come find you.
Seeing Cornelia hang up, Brian quickly asked, âYouâve been saying you brought someone. I can let the guards know in advance and let them in. Why didnât you say so earlier?â
âThanks for your kindness, but I donât need it.â Cornelia waved at Brian, then walked away with confident strides, âGoodbyeâ
Brian said, âGoodbye!â
As soon as Cornelia left, Wyatt, Alexa and Emily quietly gathered behind Brian.
Wyatt said, âDid we just shoot ourselves in the foot?â
Alexa said, âI admire the tenacity in this girl, I think itâs very similar to Grandpa Augustineâs spirit.â
Wyatt said, âCornelia is Grandpa Augustineâs granddaughter. Of course she shares many similarities with him.â
