Chapter 1131
After a while, just when Dr. Lester almost thought Marcus wasnât going to answer him, he finally heard Marcus slowly reply, âAcidbane, youâve heard of it, right?â
Dr. Lester thought he misheard, âWhat did you say?â
Marcus replied, âAcidbane!â
Acidbane, a drug that, whether injected into humans or animals, would slowly and gradually destroy the insides, torturing the victim to death. This name, Dr. Lester had heard it twentyâsome years ago. But back then, it had only circulated for a bit before people started saying it was just a rumor, that there was no such drug, and so the matter was laid to rest.
Now hearing the name again, Dr. Lester broke out in a cold sweat, âMarc, how do you know about this stuff? Whereâd you hear it?â
Marcus lifted his eyes, staring straight ahead, âBrennen told me.â
Upon hearing Brennenâs name, Dr. Lester shivered, âHe told you? Was this drug made by his people?â
Such a thing happening to anyone could be a rumor, but if it involved Brennen, it was definitely true.
Dr. Lester was scared, âMarc, did he so something to you?â
Dr. Lester stopped in time. He didnât dare to continue thinking, as the picture forming in his mind was too cruel.
Marcus gave a wry smile, âJust as you thought, it was his people who injected me with that drug.â
Dr. Lester asked, âWhen? We need to go to the hospital immediately, to get the drug out of your system as soon as possible.â
Marcus answered. âWhen I was very young, around five years old, what else can we do?â
Dr. Lester fell silent.
Marcus continued, âBrennen had me serve as their guinea pig. He had his people make this drug and inject me with it, wanting to see if my insides would be slowly eaten away after twenty years.â
Dr. Lester couldnât believe it, or more accurately, he didnât want to believe something so brutal could happen to Marcus, âPeople injected with that drug donât live past twenty years, but youâve already lived twentyâthree. This is absolutely impossible.â
Marcus said, âI understand my own body better than anyone.â
Dr. Lester said, âBut the CT scan I did for you not long ago didnât show any problems with your organs. Letâs go to the hospital again for a checkâup.â
Marcus leaned weakly back into the car seat, âWe should definitely check again, as long as thereâs a glimmer of hope that I can survive.â
Even in pain, he wanted to try to live, to spend more time with Cornelia.
Dr. Lester said, âThatâs the right attitude.â
Marcus closed his eyes, slowly saying, âIf I die, Granny Luisa and Bri can take care of each other. The one Iâm most worried about is Cornelia. Cornelia and her grandma depended on each other, and her grandma just passed away. She canât handle losing another loved one. I donât want anyone to tell her about my illness.â
Dr. Lester said, âHaving Cornelia by your side might help you get better faster.â
Jayden also joined in their conversation, âPresident Hartley, I agree with Dr. Lester. You should let Cornelia be with you.â
Marcus didnât open his eyes, âIâm not dead yet, and you guys are rushing to make decisions for me?â
Jayden had nothing to say. He should learn more from his brother Ayden. If he didnât need to talk, he wouldnât.
Dr. Lester, being older, dared to voice his thoughts, âCornelia is your wife, can you really hide your illness from her? Even if all of us keep quiet, Cornelia
will find out sooner or later.â
Marcus replied, âIâve already got a plan.â
Dr. Lester asked, âWhatâs your game plan?â
