Chapter 1063
âAwesome! Just awesome.â Yolanda exclaimed in delight.
Her Instincts were spot on. Cornelia wasnât that kind of shameless woman.
Ben said, âComelia chose to keep her identity under wraps, make sure you donât spill it to others.â
Yolanda wanted to ask why Cornelia would hide her identity, but before she could ask she understood.
She was well aware of Comeliaâs capabilities, but when she saw Cornelia getting chummy with President Hartley, her first suspicion was that Cornelia had used some underhanded means to secure her position. If others knew about Corneliaâs real relationship with Marcus, theyâd undoubtedly think that Corneliaâs promotion was due to shady reasons.
Once everyone started thinking that, all of Comeliaâs previous efforts would be brushed under the rug. She wouldnât be the competent Ms. Stewart at the company. sheâd just be President Hartleyâs wife.
Despite the highâflying title, being President Hartleyâs wife just meant being an accessory to him.
âDonât sweat it, Ben, I wonât let the cat out of the bag. Whether to go public with her identity should be Corneliaâs call.â Yolanda assured.
âThank youâ Comelia expressed her gratitude.
âI didnât do anything worth thanking, you silly goose.â Yolanda felt a lot lighter, âCornella, Ben, weâre having a department getâtogether this Friday, wanna tag along?â Cornelia wasnât a big fan of mingling with coworkers or attending such events, but she agreed to Yolandaâs invitation, âSure, why not.â
Ben chimed in. âIâm free on Friday evening, wouldnât mind hitting up the party. But I reckon if Cornelia goes, President Hartley might show up too. If heâs there, folks might feel awkward, and the party wouldnât be as chill. Cornelia, for the sake of everyoneâs fun, you canât let President Hartley crash the party.â
âBen, thatâs not fair. Yolanda countered, âRegardless of what others think, Iâd love for President Hartley to swing by our departmentâs partyâ
The employees at the secretaryâs office were mostly women, who wouldnât want to take a peek at Marcusâ handsome mug, regardless of whatever else they thought
of him?
âI donât want President Hartley to show up, itâd feel like work with him around. You canât speak for everyone, and neither can I Ben argued back
âIn that case, Yolanda, why donât you go ask around? If everyoneâs cool with President Hartley coming. Iâll try to bring him along. If theyâre not, I wonât Cornelia proposed.
Roger that, Mrs. Hartley!â Yolanda dashed off, stopping at the door to flash a grin at Cornelia, âMrs. Hartley, Iâll go ask around right away, should have an answer for you in no time.â
Cornelia was speechless
âYolandaâs a bit odd âBen commented.
âWhatâs so odd about her?â Cornelia asked.
âIsnât she supposed to be green with envy? Why does she seem so genuinely happy Ben asked.
âWhy should she be jealous of me? Canât she just be happy for me?â Comelia said.
âDonât girls often get caught up in jealousy and complicated stuff?â Ben asked.
âWho says girls have to have complicated relationships? Whether itâs boys or girls, there are good friends and bad enemies. I believe, friendships between girls can be very pure and beautiful. Donât be sexist!â Cornelia said.
Realizing his mistake, Ben quickly corrected himself, âI thought sheâd be jealous and angry because sheâd been pretty upset with you, and I thought learning about your relationship with President Hartley would worsen it.â
Cornelia responded, âYolandaâs a sweet girl, she always sees the best in people, genuinely appreciates those better than her and tries to learn from them. Sheâs always been nice to me. Her discontent was because she thought I had an illicit relationship with President Hartley. In reality, she apologized to me for the misunderstanding even before she knew the truth about me and President Hartley.â
âI see now, thereâs none of the drama 1 imagined between you two. Sheâs genuinely happy for you, and you stick up for her.â Ben admitted.
