Chapter 1035
Marcus put a stop to any nonsense, âWhether weâre a match or not, weâre married. Sheâs mine forever.â
âYours? Youâre pretty full of yourself.â Mr. Augustine quipped, raising an eyebrow as he added more food to Corneliaâs plate, âNelly, I think we get along pretty well. We should keep in touch. You can reach out to me if thereâs anything you need.â
Cornelia said, âOkay!â
Old Mr. Abner added, âNelly, letâs exchange contacts too. Iâve been kicking myself for not getting yours last time. Donât hesitate to reach out if you ever need help, even if Marcus is giving you a hard time. Iâll have your back.â
Cornelia jotted down the two old menâs contacts with a smile, âWith you guys as my protectors, does this mean Iâm free to live anywhere in this country?â âThatâs a given.â Old Mr. Abner replied, âEspecially with Mr. Augustineâs high-ranking status, even your hubby wouldnât dare cross the line.â
Mr. Augustine wasnât just a businessman, his family held great power. They were pretty low-key though, hardly the talk of the town.
Cornelia said, âMarcus is my husband. Heâs always been good to me, never mistreated me. If you guys truly care about me, could you go easy on him?â
Marcus, who had been in a foul mood, brightened up at Corneliaâs words.
He shot the two old men a smug look, as if to say, âSee, no matter what you say, as long as I have Cornelia by my side, Iâm good.â
Mr. Augustine shot Marcus a displeased look, âMen are often deceivers. Always stay alert, itâs for your own good.â
Cornelia made her stance clear, âI might distrust anyone, but I trust Marcus.â
Mr. Augustine sighed, âAnother naive girl.â
Old Mr. Abner asked, âWho else is a naive girl?â
Mr. Augustine didnât reply, instead he continued serving Cornelia food. The more he looked at her, the more he felt a strange bond.
With the two old menâs special attention, Cornelia ate so much she felt uncomfortable on the ride home.
Marcus said, âSilly girl, donât force yourself to eat if youâre full.â
Cornelia replied, âThey were so nice and warm to me. I couldnât bear to reject them.â
Marcus said, âPart of growing up is learning to say no. When you can say no, thatâs when youâve changed.â
Comelia said, âI can say no to others, but not to those who are kind to me.â
Marcus replied, âBut you have to learn slowly.â
Comelia wanted to say something more but felt too unwell, she leaned back in her seat, âI need to rest a bit. Wake me up when we get home.â
âAlright.â Marcus drove towards Lakeview Estates.
Soon, he heard Cornelia moan slightly. Marcus touched her forehead, âAre you feeling unwell? I can take you to the hospital to get some digestion pills.â
Cornelia turned to look at Marcus, her face flushed, âI think itâs not just overeating. I think my periodâs here.â
Marcus also blushed, âWhat do we do now?â
He was clueless in this situation.
Cornelia pointed ahead, âThereâs a convenience store not far ahead. You can stop the car and Iâll go buy some sanitary pads.â
Marcus said, âIâll go buy them, you wait in the car.â
Cornelia asked, âAre you sure?â
Many men were uncomfortable buying sanitary pads for their wives or girlfriends, thinking it was embarrassing.
She didnât expect Marcus, the CEO of the Hartley Group, to be willing to do something many guys would find awkward.
Marcus didnât reply, he simply parked the car by the roadside, âWait here, Iâll be right back.â
