Chapter 1025
âHave you always been a fan of blue? Or did you like other colors when you were younger?â Cornelia asked with a poker face, her heart pounding like a wild tide.
Yesterday, she read a passage in Granny Rebeccaâs diary Granny Rebecca mentioned that her mother had a young girlâs heart and her favorite color was pink, especially pink bows. But now, Clair claimed her favorite color to be blue.
So, did this mean this wasnât her mother? Not necessarily, peopleâs tastes could change over time.
After asking, Cornelia quietly waited for Clairâs response. Maybe her urgency gave it away and raised Clairâs suspicion. Clair gave her a vague response with a smile, âI canât remember. All I know is that Iâve been loving blue lately.â
Clair handed Cornelia a cup of coffee, âNelly, when I left you and your father, I had no other choice. It was only after I left your father that I realized I was pregnant.â
As Clair kept talking, Comelia was fiddling with her coffee cup. Suddenly, the cup fell and shattered.
Clair was startled and saw Cornelia squatting down to pick up the pieces, âNelly, let the waiter clean it u. Donât hurt yourself.â
Comelia squatted down, picking up the shards, âIâll clean it up.â
A look of contempt flashed in Clairâs eyes. Despite being married to a noble man like Marcus, Cornelia couldnât hide her small-town roots. She couldnât just stand there watching Cornelia clean up, so she pretended to be helpful, âLet me help you.â
âNo need!â Cornelia pushed her hand away, accidentally cutting Clairâs hand.
The cut wasnât big or painful, but it enraged the beauty-conscious Clair who nearly lost her temper. She took great care of herself and would never allow any scars, âNelly, I need to treat the wound, Iâll leave you now. Bring Natalia next time, we can hang out.â
With that said, Clair hurriedly left, fearing the wound would heal if she waited any longer.
Cornelia collected the shards stained with Clairâs blood, then called Tahlia, âTahlia, are you done?â
Tahlia said, âIâve completed the hiring process, Iâll start work tomorrow.â
Comelia said, âWhere are you now? Iâll come to pick you up.â
Tahlia said, âIâm at the Hartley Group headquarters.â
Cornelia said, âWait for me, Iâll be there in a few minutes.â
The place where Cornelia met Clair wasnât far from the Hartley Group, a mere ten-minute walk, plus she drove.
After picking up Tahlia, Cornelia headed out of the city.
Tahlia looked at Cornelia, seemingly with a lot to say, but eventually kept quiet, âCornelia, even though we just became sisters, I really love you. If only one of us could survive, I would definitely give you the chance to live.â
Cornelia freed one hand and gently touched Tahliaâs face, âWeâre both going to make it, let our grandma and dad in heaven know weâre doing okay.â
Tahlia asked, âWhere are we going next?â
Comelia answered, âI havenât been to the seaside for a long time, I want to take you for a walk there. You start work tomorrow, so we wonât have as much free time.â
Tahlia responded enthusiastically, âGreat!â
