With disgust written all over her face, Alexandria walked into the run-down house, while silently accompanied by Cristina, who was wiping away her tears as she took in the shabby surroundings.
Sitting in the front passenger seat, Carlos turned his head to face me and Caleb and asked, âIf Dylan is returned safely, will you spare Alexandriaâs life?â
Hearing this, I said nothing and simply glanced at Caleb.
With a raised eyebrow, Caleb asked sarcastically, âAre you still planning to help her so she could find somewhere to live and keep spending the Vargas familyâs money?â
Carlos pursed his lips in embarrassment and clearly had no idea what to say.
However, Caleb wasnât done yet and pressed on, âOr do you think I easily forgive those who try to harm my family?â
Meeting Calebâs cold gaze, Carlos instinctively lowered his head and shifted uncomfortably.
The wait for Alexandria to return felt like forever.
Clinging tightly to Calebâs hand, I couldnât say for sure whose hand was sweating.
Though our two hands were sticky and uncomfortable, we didnât relax the firm hold we had on each other.
I kept glancing at my watch every five minutes until I finally saw three people walking across the road.
I instantly recognized Dylan, even though he looked quite pale and his clothes were stained.
Seeing him in such a state broke my heart and I began to cry.
Fortunately, he wasnât hurt, and I couldnât help but heave a sigh of relief.
As long as my child wasnât hurt, that was all that mattered at that moment.
I wanted to burst out of the car and rush over to Dylan to embrace him.
Only when I had my baby in my arms would I truly feel at ease.
Caleb sensed my restlessness and held my hand firmly to stop me.
He spoke with an edge of nervousness.
âDonât act impulsively.
Letâs stay calm and wait.
â
Tears welled up in my eyes; I longed to embrace my child, yet I knew Caleb was right.
We couldnât let Cory discover we were watching Alexandria.
Despite this, my eyes locked onto Dylan the moment I saw him.
Fear gripped me that he might vanish again, so I watched him intently.
He seemed to sense my stare and turned his head, looking towards a car parked by the road.
Cory, who was by Dylanâs side, picked up on his shift in attention and approached our car cautiously.
Fortunately, Calebâs car, with its specially tinted windows, kept us hidden from view.
As Cory drew nearer, my anxiety spiked.
He raised his hand, seemingly about to knock on the window, but Alexandriaâs sudden appearance from the house stopped him.
Cory looked surprised to see her.
