On the phone, Shirley sneered.
âWhy should I give that little thing back to Debra? Debra used to insult me.
Now Iâve found her weakness.
I have to get even.
â
Andrew blurted out, âShirley, this is between us adults.
Leave the child out of it.
â
Shirley said indifferently, âWhatever.
If Debra really cares about this kid, she can come and get her herself.
Iâll be at my motherâs manor.
â
With that, Shirley hung up, not giving Andrew a chance to respond.
The room went eerily silent.
Andrew looked at me with guilt, stood up, and said, âIâm sorry.
This is all my fault.
I didnât handle things well with the manor or with Shirley.
Thatâs why Abbyâs in danger now.
Iâm heading to Veronicaâs manor.
Iâll find a way to bring Abby back safely.
â
I wiped my tears, took a deep breath, and tried to calm down.
With a steely gaze, I said slowly, âSince Shirley wants me to pick up my child in person, Iâll do it.
â
Andrew glanced at me, clearly unsure.
It was obvious he didnât want me to face Shirley alone.
âIâll go with you.
Weâll bring our kid home together,â Caleb said firmly, squeezing my hand.
I turned to Caleb and felt a sense of relief wash over me.
I managed a smile and nodded.
âOkay.
â
Andrew noticed I was holding Calebâs hand tightly.
He looked like he wanted to say something, but didnât.
Instead, he gave a bitter smile, almost mocking himself.
He sighed and muttered, âIâll get the butler to ready the bodyguards and cars.
Letâs go.
â
Soon, the butler had everything set.
Caleb and I rode together in one car, while Andrew and the bodyguards were in another.
Caleb never let go of my hand, and feeling his warmth gave me some comfort.
Yet, I still couldnât shake off the worry and fear that Abby might be in danger.
Seeing my nervousness, Caleb comforted me quietly, âDonât worry.
Iâll protect you and our kid.
â
I leaned against him, silently praying for Abbyâs safety.
Soon, we reached Veronicaâs manor.
Addy came out to greet us, obviously aware of what had happened.
But when she spotted Caleb and me behind Andrew, her expression changed abruptly.
She stared at Caleb and asked in a serious tone, âWho are you?â
Debraâs POV:
I glanced at Caleb and was about to introduce him to Addy, but Andrew spoke first.
âThis is Caleb, the Alpha of the Thorn Edge Pack and Debraâs husband.
â
It caught me off guard that Andrew so openly declared the connection between Caleb and me.
Before the surprise could settle, Andrew continued, âHeâs also the biological father of the child who was taken to the villa by Shirley this morning.
â
My shock deepened.
I hadnât expected Andrew to reveal everything so bluntly.
Was he trying to make it clear that I wasnât his fiancee and had nothing to do with him, so he could free me from this mess?
