Desperation contorted her features.
âItâs that Debra, isnât it?â she shrieked, her voice laced with jealousy.
âA half-blood trying to steal you away! Iâll kill her!â
My face hardened at the murderous glint in her eyes.
With a growl, I kicked her back.
âShut up! Another word and I will kill you.
â
Andrewâs POV:
Shirleyâs gaze was fraught with fear, mingling confusion and reluctance in her eyes.
She seemed to want to question why I had struck her, but fear kept her silent.
Revulsion surged through me at the mere thought of looking at her again.
In my frustration, I yelled at Addy, âWhy are you still standing there? Do you want to watch her lose her mind? Go get a doctor and give her a tranquilizer, now!â
Snapped back to reality, Addy quickly went to fetch the doctor.
Shortly after, the doctor arrived and administered an injection to Shirley.
The drugâs effect was swift.
Shirleyâs eyes grew heavy, and soon she was asleep.
Silence reclaimed the ward.
Once assured that Shirley was deep in slumber, Addy turned to me and explained, âAndrew, please, hold
back your anger.
Shirleyâs outburst was due to the shock of her disfigurement; sheâs overly emotional right now.
She didnât mean the nonsense she was spouting.
Please, she didnât intend any harm towards Debra.
â
I scoffed dismissively, âWhether Shirley bears any malice towards Debra or not, she remains the pampered daughter of the leader.
Her dislike for Debra, potent as it might be, is impotent without aid from others, wouldnât you agree?â
After making that remark, I glanced at Addy and the leader, a smirk playing on my lips.
The leaderâs temper flared at my blatant disrespect.
She snapped, âAndrew, have you forgotten the rules? Continue this behavior, and Iâll have the elders deal with you!â
Her threats barely registered with me.
I retorted, âIf you and the elders think Iâm out of line, go ahead, punish me.
But remember, I brought Debra back to our witch clan.
Itâs my duty to protect her, and I will make anyone who tries to harm her regret it.
â
The leaderâs expression grew stormier, yet she refused to confess her attempt to poison Debra.
âI have no idea what youâre talking about.
What happened to Debra is beyond me!â
âIs that so?â I said, eyeing the leader skeptically, not believing a word.
The leader responded composedly, âAbsolutely.
Just find the real culprit.
Spare me your tantrums until you do.
Youâre making a fool of yourself.
Youâre hardly acting like a deputy leader should!â
Although I was convinced the leader was involved, I couldnât justly accuse her without proof.
I took a moment to collect myself and then declared firmly, âIf you claim innocence, Iâll take your word for it-for now.
Rest assured, I will uncover whoever tried to poison Debra and bring them to justice.
â
I walked away after leaving them behind, ignoring both the leader and Addy.
However, once outside the ward, I didnât stray far.
Instead, I lingered by the door, eavesdropping on the conversation within.
Addyâs voice was tinged with urgency.
âWhatâs our next move? It looks like Andrew is determined to uncover who attacked Debra, no matter what it takes.
â
The leader inhaled sharply before issuing a grim command.
âYou need to eliminate that man before Andrew gets to him.
We canât risk him turning on us.
The dead reveal no secrets.
