A woman took my hands and said, âItâs really nothing to worry about.
Andrew has never liked Shirley anyway.
â
âYes, that is true.
Andrew had never liked Shirley before.
I doubt that would change now,â another lady added.
I maintained a polite smile through it all but said nothing.
I knew that the more one spoke, the easier it was to make a mistake.
I kept my mouth shut to avoid unnecessary trouble.
The women, however, didnât seem to take the hint and kept talking.
âIâm really envious of you.
Andrew must be so nice to you.
â
âWeâve never seen Andrew so in love before.
â
âIt seems you are his one true love.
â
All their words were flattery.
Although I had nothing to say, I had to make something up.
âYou all look so beautiful and young.
You donât even look like married women.
Your marriage life must be really happy.
Only happy people stay this young.
â
The women all giggled at my words.
I sat there and watched them laugh.
The conversation was still ongoing when a bodyguard suddenly rushed towards us.
The bodyguard ran to Veronica.
I wasnât far from her, so I clearly heard what he said.
âMadam, your study is on fire.
â
Immediately, I looked around for Andrew.
I felt quite uneasy when I didnât see him.
Veronica immediately rushed to the study with her bodyguards when she heard the news.
Worried, I followed them.
By the time we got there, there was a thick wave of smoke coming from the study.
We could see the flames burning in the room through the glass window.
Veronica asked, âHow did this happen? Is anyone still in the study?â
âShirley and Andrew are missing.
They may still be in the study,â Addy answered.
Veronicaâs expression immediately became one of cold detachment.
âOpen the door.
â
âThe door was locked from the inside.
Itâs a top-security door.
Special tools are needed to open it, and there are none in the manor right now,â the bodyguard said nervously.
