Startled out of my thoughts, I turned to see Carlos burst in, his breaths hurried and ragged.
His face bore the weight of urgency as he delivered the news.
âCaleb, itâs serious-thereâs been an incident!â
Calebâs POV:
Seeing Carlosâ frantic demeanor, I waved him over urgently.
âWhatâs wrong?â
He hesitated, glancing at the children, then closed the door.
Leaning in, he lowered his voice.
âThe rift in the sky has grown bigger.
We can even see glimpses of the other world through it.
The whole packâs buzzing about it.
â
âWhat?â I nearly bolted upright in shock.
Since Debraâs disappearance, the rift had remained stable, with no incidents.
I thought the threat was over.
Now, not only was it expanding, but we could see another world? How was this possible?
Panic rising, I pressed, âHas anything come through the rift?â
I vividly recalled what the vampire said-he was from another world.
Debra also shared dreams of creatures climbing out of the rift, initiating a massacre against werewolves.
If more creatures emerged, this matter could escalate rapidly.
Furrowing my brow, I looked to Carlos.
He shook his head.
âNot yet.
The rift just expanded, and itâs far from our pack.
We donât know what to expect.
â
Without hesitation, I stood.
âLetâs go inspect it now.
â
âAlright.
â
Carlos arrived prepared; he was ready to move the moment I spoke.
But as I took a step forward, a weight tugged on my arm.
It was the children.
Elenaâs upturned eyes were wide with hope.
âDaddy, could Mommy be in that other world?â Her voice quivered with excitement.
âDaddy, I want to go with you to find her!â
Dylan mirrored his sisterâs enthusiasm.
âMe too, Daddy! I want to find Mommy!â
âAbsolutely not,â I said firmly.
âItâs dangerous.
This isnât a playground.
â
Carlos knelt beside them.
âElena, Dylan, listen to your father.
We donât know what dangers lurk beyond the rift.
Bringing you could put you at risk.
â
He offered a compromise.
âYour daddy and I will check it out first.
If itâs safe, then weâll come get you both to find Mommy, okay?â
âNo!â They shook their heads, their grip tightening.
âThe rift is finally big enough! We have to go now, in case Mommy leaves! You havenât been looking hard enough, Daddy!â
