âI told you your motherâs dead! Donât you ever mention her again!â
Evanâs cold admonishing caused Nicole to freeze for a moment.
Dead
He actually told Kyle Iâm dead?
Her eyes were instantly filled with rage.
âNo! Youâre lying. Mommy isnât dead!â Kyle continued to throw a fit.
Evan began to exude a dangerous aura at the mention of the woman. He now looked like a lion that had been angered.
âI said sheâs dead, so sheâs dead! Youâd better start behaving, Kyle, or -â
âHow could you talk to a child like that? Iâd say heâs in such a state because you didnât take good care of him! What kind of a father are you?â Nicole shouted as her motherly instincts came over, wanting to protect the kid.
She trembled as she spoke.
Her words rang in Evanâs ears. It made him especially surprised to have been interrupted, and even worse, berated.
Realizing she had gotten too worked up, Nicole lowered her head and tried to recompose herself. âWhat I meant was â the boy is still young, so you should talk to him nicely.â
Evan stared at her in suspicion. âThat voice of yours earlierâ¦â
âI got too emotional. People tend to sound different when their emotions get the better of them.â
While explaining, Nicole noticed Evanâs inquisitive gaze on her, and her chest tightened.
âDonât forget that youâve agreed to my terms, Mr. Seet. Iâm the doctor here, and Iâm in charge of the entire treatment process. So, Iâm asking you now to please leave, and donât interfere with my work.â
Evan stared at the miracle doctor attentively. Despite feeling suspicious about her, he couldnât figure anything out.
Seeing the man remain still, Nicole urged once more, âPlease cooperate.â
He gave a final look at his son, who was lying in bed. Only then, he finally left the room with a stony expression.
After Evan left, Nicole began to comfort the sobbing child.
âYouâre a tough guy, Kyle. Donât cry.â
Kyle glanced at her unhappily and wiped his tears.
He never cried except when he was thinking of his mother.
After much coaxing, the boy finally agreed to let Nicole perform acupuncture on him.
âDoes it hurt?â
Kyle shook his head.
Nicoleâs eyes became wet with tears. How could it not hurt? He was crying so much, and yet heâs acting so strong right now.
âYouâre amazing, Kyle!â
âI donât need you to tell me that.â
Hearing the boy refute her, Nicole caressed his head.
Kyle hated being touched by others, but for some reason, he didnât feel like getting mad at Nicole for doing it.
âYouâll have to eat your meals regularly from now on, Kyle. Donât take anything spicy, and also -â
âOkay, I got it. Youâre so annoying!â
Since Kyle didnât like listening to her, Nicole stopped talking. Itâs better if I talked to Evan anyway.
Nicole then left the room, prescribed some herbs, and told Blake, the butler, to be more mindful of the boyâs diet.
âIâll remember everything, Dr. Tussaud,â Blake responded.
âOkay. Iâll drop by again tomorrow.â
Just as she spoke, Evanâs frigid voice came from behind.
âWill Kyle have to go through acupuncture every day?â
Nicole stilled for a moment. âI canât say right now if itâs necessary. Iâll have a look at his condition again tomorrow.â
Evan stared at her for a long while before finally giving her a one-word response.
âAlright.â
âWell, Iâll be heading back now.â
Unable to handle the manâs sharp eyes, Nicole put on a calm act and left with her medical kit.
After watching her leave, Evanâs eyes darkened as he gave one of the bodyguards an order.
âFollow her.â
âYes, Sir.â
