JOCELYN

The last couple of months have flown by without any more issues. Nate and the guys still don’t know where Ricardo is, or his men. They kept following his men around, hoping they would lead them to him, but one night Ricardo’s men went missing. Then his mom went missing also.

The house they were at only seems to be staff now. Given that info, Nate and the guys are overly cautious. No one leaves except Nate and Kyle. The house is constantly surrounded, and he even has snipers up on the roof.

Mandy is so close to having the baby, we are starting to get nervous. If she goes into labor and Nate is gone, what will we do? We are praying she holds out until Nate can take her so we won’t have to leave.

He will be taking off in a week or two, so he will be here the last three weeks of the pregnancy. Our dad will cover, along with Grandpa Fernando, until Nate can get back.

We have finally finished our sophomore year and will most likely remain home for the next year. Kerri and Mary are still here which isn’t surprising. Their parents would rather them be safe here than risk them being at home. Especially with Ricardo still out there somewhere.

We are all sitting in the entertainment room watching a TV show, waiting for the guys to get back from dropping off our school supplies. They seem to be taking longer than normal, and we wonder what the holdup could be.

We are supposed to watch a movie after they get back, and we are anxious to start it. Nate said we are not to leave under any circumstance, no matter what, so we can’t go to the movies. We are all waiting as my phone goes off with a notification alert.

I look down at my phone and see a video has come through from an unknown number. I look at everyone as they crowd around, then I take a deep breath and hit play.

The moment the video starts, I hear his voice then I see an accident in the background. I automatically start crying and screaming with my hand over my mouth, shaking, when I see the accident is one of our SUVs. I can see they got hit hard and none of the guys is moving.

“Listen, Jocelyn, we can do it the easy way or the hard way. I will find you, and you will be mine. I will let your little boy toy live for now. It’s kinda fun knowing that I could end him right now while you are watching. Just be warned—when you least expect it, I will get you!”

The video quickly cuts out, and I jump on the phone with Nate, telling him what happened.

NATE

I am sitting at work when my phone rings and I see it’s Jocelyn. I pick up and hear her in hysterics in the background. Something about Ricardo sending a video and the guys in an accident.

I quickly hang up with Jocelyn, and I text my guards. I need everyone scouring the city looking for the SUV—now! Luis, Jesus, and I go running out of the building and jump into an SUV so we can go looking also.

We turn on the police scanner in case a call happens to come in. Sure enough, as we flip to the channel, they are talking about a hit-and-run on the corner of First and Cowell Streets.

We punch the gas and go flying that way, hoping it isn’t too bad. When we round the corner coming up to the scene, we can see it’s blocked off. We quickly throw it in park and run toward the car.

I point to the SUV as the officers let me by. The SUV is totaled and looks like it got hit directly on the passenger side. Carlos has a small cut on his head, and Luis looks like he is okay.

Jessie looks like he took the brunt of it by being on the passenger side and is currently lying unconscious. He gets loaded up into the back of an ambulance as I get another car to come pick up Luis and Carlos.

I jump in the back of the ambulance with Jessie and ride with him, so in case he wakes up, I’m there. While I am riding, I call Jocelyn to give her an update.

She is clearly upset and wants to go to the hospital, but I tell her absolutely not. Ricardo will be watching for her to emerge and show up. I get a few choice words before she hangs up which I expected to happen. It’s for her own good, though.

We are riding along when Jessie starts to come to and tries to sit up. The paramedic and I grab him and push him back down. He sees me and instantly starts to relax.

I can tell he is in so much pain as he grimaces with every bump in the road. When we pull into the emergency department parking lot, we quickly unload and wheel him inside.

The doctor comes running in and quickly assesses Jessie. He starts getting bloodwork and a scan of his head, his chest, and his arms.

I wait with Jessie to get the results that come back almost all clear. He does have a few broken ribs and a broken arm, but nothing else majorly wrong. He gets to sport a nice cast which he chooses to be black.

We get his pain meds filled and head to Luis and Jesus in the waiting car so we can get home. I call Tank and Frankie and ask if they can meet us at the house.

I hang up, look at Jessie, and tell him he needs to rest, so as soon as we get home, he should go lie down. He just rolls his eyes, so at least I know he’s feeling better.

When we enter the house, Jocelyn comes running toward Jessie but stops abruptly when she sees his injuries. She slowly walks up and just gives him a light hug while crying. He wraps his good arm around her while kissing her temple.

I let them have their moment before I ask Jocelyn for her phone so we can see if we can trace the video. As she hands it to me, Tank and Frankie enter to try and help locate a number or any kind of info.

We all stand around watching the video, and it makes me physically ill. Ricardo is getting braver, and that scares me even more. Not only for Jocelyn and her friends, but for Mandy also.

Tank hooks up the phone to his laptop and starts running it through different programs. After a few minutes, he just shakes his head.

Damn it, Ricardo made it untraceable. We are going to have to be on lockdown. Luckily, I only have one week left before I will be here until after the baby comes.
