When we walked back into the restaurant we led our grandfather to the table with my parents. Dad laughed. âMae.â
Mom laughed. âKonain stop.â
They both stopped messing around and looked at us. âItâs good to see you Father, this is Mae and Mae this is my father,â He reintroduced them.
We all sat down. âItâs nice to finally meet you Mae again.â Grandfather picked up the menu.
âI have news.â Cade announced. âSadia, my girlfriend is pregnant.â
Dad dropped his menu. âWhat?â
âThatâs good isnât it?â Mom asked.
Dad shrugged, âYou started seeing Sadia not that long after her last relationship. Is the-â
âYes itâs mine.â Cade answered the question before Dad finished asking it. âThe timing makes it clear itâs mine.â When Sadia found out she told me right away so I could tell Lexus. We were all really relieved. âIâve already joined the pack.â He showed the pack mark on his shoulder. Grandfather didnât react or say anything.
âCongrats,â I said. We all ordered our food and gave the waiter our menus. I closed my eyes to see what Lexus was doing.
He was at a bar, but he was smoking instead of drinking. âAre you spying on me?â Lexus asked jokingly and telepathically.
âYeah I am. My grandfather just got here and Iâm a little nervous.â
âAqua.â Grandfather called me.
I opened my eyes. âHuh?â
âYou shouldnât use your abilities for your own purposes.â Grandfather said.
âWhy not?â My mother asked. âItâs her abilities.â Dad looked am worried.
âThey were given to our family to better the kingdom not for our own gain. I donât expect you to understand Mae,â Grandfather explained.
âIs that what we came to talk about?â Cade asked, annoyed. âI didnât need to be here if itâs about Aqua.â
âNo, itâs about all of you. You need to go back to the castle and apologize to the king and queen. This is ridiculous and a mockery to everything my father and our ancestors built.â
âDid you explain it to him?â I asked my Dad.
âYes, he just doesnât believe it.â
I frowned. âYou donât believe that I spoke to the moon goddess?â
Grandfather shook his head. âI believe that you believe you did but it doesnât add up. Why wouldnât my father have spoken with the moon goddess? Why wouldnât she have led him down the right path.â
I knew the answer, but I wasnât sure if it was good for me to explain. âDid he ever have a dream about her?â
Grandfather shook his head. âNo but if it was important to her she would have visited his dream.â
He didnât understand. âDiana had tried with holders before him, but she wouldnât order them to leave.
She gave them the choice of leaving, and they knew she didnât intend on them working for the royal family. The problem was their loyalty.â
âAnd you have none.â Grandfather said as if it proved his point.
âAnd thatâs why I was chosen as the new holder. Iâve been doing all kinds of hands on good for people.
Iâve been helping them face to face and not from a distance in a big castle.â I looked at the waiter as they brought our food.
As we started to eat no one said anything but there was a lot of tension. My grandfather didnât care that the holder was never meant to work for the royal family. He cared more about continuing what weâve always done because Diana gives us free will. She gives us the choice, so he doesnât want to give me one. I noticed my grandfather had a bag with him. âWhatâs in the bag?â
âMy fatherâs journals, he documented his time as a holder. I thought it might help you realize your power and capabilities.â
I smiled. âI think that would really help.â
âIt would have.â He muttered.
My smile turned to a frown and I slightly pushed my food away. âYouâre not giving them to me anymore?â
Grandfather shook his head. âMy father knew it was impossible for him to teach the next holder. When a holder dies only then can the next holder be born. Two holders canât be alive at once. He documented all he could to teach the next holder of the castle.â He stood up. âYouâre not the next holder of the castle so you donât need these.â
âAre you okay?â Lexus asked me telepathically because he could feel my anger. I didnât usually get angry, but my grandfather was being unfair.
Dad spoke up, âYouâre risking a good relationship with your granddaughter out of pettiness, Father.â
Grandfather didnât care. âIt was nice seeing you all again, congratulations to you and Sadia.â He said to Cade. âIâm excited about my first great grandchild and your grandmother will be too.â He walked away. I clenched my fists and took a deep breath.
âAqua, do you want to do something else?â Mom offered. âI donât want you going back this upset.â
I noticed through looking out the window that Lexus was waiting outside. âIs Lexus welcome?â I wasnât sure how my mother felt about Lexus.
Mom nodded. âOf course, he is. Cade, you're welcome too.â
Cade chuckled. âNot if Lexus is going to be there.â
We were all done eating so we paid the bill and left. Lexus walked to me as soon as we walked out the door. âIâd ask if you were okay, but I can feel youâre not, thatâs why I came down here.â
I looked up at him then tried to hold back a smirk. âYeah⦠Iâll explain later.â
âWhatâs funny?â Lexus asked.
I decided to answer telepathically. âYou look really high, like really high. Your eyes are bloodshot and low. It was just funny because of how concerned you are. Anyways my mom invited us to spend time with her but Iâd rather you be sober for that.â
âAqua.â Cade said. âIâm going to go, Iâll see you soon okay?â
âOkay, tell Sadia I say hi okay?â I waved as he walked off. âMom, Lexus isnât going to join us.â It was obvious to everyone why.
âThatâs fine I wanted to talk to you about joining my coven,â She said.
âCould you do me a favor babe?â Lexus asked. âWhen weâre apart, could you not use your third eye to watch me? Could you let me know when youâre going to use it before you do?â
âOh⦠yeah, no problem.â I was still really disappointed about what happened with my grandfather but at least I could spend time with my parents.
