Wayne heard the nurse repeat her questions, but he couldnât even move his legs. He froze for a long time before returning to his senses and saying, âIdo! Iâm her family!â
The nurse appeared emotionless because she was so used to seeing this scene. She handed him a piece of paper and said, âWe need to operate on the right side of her chest because itâs penetrated by a steel bar. Sheâs in danger, and doctors are still trying their best to save her. Please sign here.ââ
Hearing that, Wayne went stiff. He felt like a bomb had exploded in his head, rendering him unable to think clearly.
âSir, are you all right? â the nurse asked.
Wayne couldnât control his shaking hands as he took the pen and signed the paper. People were talking and walking around him, but he didnât seem to hear anything. He peered through the c***k in the operating room door, trying to see what was going on inside.
After about ten minutes, three people approached him anxiously. They were Andrew, Scott, and Randal.
In a panic, Scott asked, âHow is Anna?â
Wayne pursed his lips, and trembled all over. He tried to calm himself down before repeating what the doctor had just said.
Seeing his reaction, Scottâs eyes instantly turned red, and he grabbed Wayneâs collar and asked, âIs this how you look after her?
Why did this happen?â
Randal yanked on Scottâs shirt and exclaimed, âPlease relax, dear. â317 She Is My Life Things may not be as bad as you think.
Theyâve already started saving herâ
Ignoring Randal, Scott grabbed Wayneâs collar more tightly and said, âWayne! You promised me you would do everything you could to protect her! How could you let this happen to my sister?â
Wayne looked up at Scott at that moment, tears welling up in his eyes. In fact, if Scott hadnât questioned him, he would have remained depressed and silent.
âYes, she is your sister,â he said, âbut she is more important to me than my life.â
Everyone froze. Randal then said, âCome on, honey, stop it. Theyâre still in the operating room.â
After about 30 minutes, the lights went out in the operating room. When the doctors saw the people at the door, they bowed and apologized, saying, âIâm sorry, we did our best but she didnât make it.â
Scott felt weak in his legs right away and would have flopped on the floor if Randal hadnât grabbed him by the waist.
The stretcher cart was then pushed out. Scott knelt next to it, clutching the white cloth tightly, and began to cry. Andrewâs eyes were moist, and Randal was trembling.
Wayne was frozen, unsure what to do. He felt he wasnât even as brave as Scott because he was too afraid to walk over to the stretcher.
God... Why?! No... | must be dreaming. Anna, after wake up from my dream, you will be sitting next to me and smiling at me, right? Right?!
At the thought of that, Wayne pinched his arm hard to see whether he was dreaming or not. To his disappointment, the intense pain he felt showed that he wasnât dreaming at all. â317 She Is My Life Damn it! Iâm so so sorry, Anna. Iâm so sorry that I disappointed you by almost endangering Matthew again. Iâm so sorry that | didnât trust you more. | shouldâve told you more often that love you and that I do care about you. But itâs already too late. f**k! What am Igonna do without you?
I canât live without yor âAh, what brings you all here?â A familiar female voice pulled Wayne back to reality.
Hearing that, all of them turned around and saw Mona coming down the hallway with two plastic bags containing lunch boxes.
âWhatâs going on?â she asked, surprised, of the five grieving men.
Andrew whispered, âStop asking; sheâs dead.â
Mona froze and stared at the stretcher car draped in a white cloth. She sighed and explained, âIâm truly sorry. Anna and | did everything we could to get her to the hospital â
Andrew nodded but realized immediately that something was wrong. âWhat are you talking about?â he asked, looking at Mona.
â| said that Anna and | did everything we could,â Mona said as she froze.
Wayne reacted immediately as Andrew was about to ask another question. He dashed over to the stretcher cart and grabbed the cloth. Then, everyone was surprised to see a strange woman with a pale face.
Scott was startled and flung himself into Randalâs arms. âThatâs not Anna!â he exclaimed.
Wayne finally calmed down. He put down the cloth and asked Mona, âWhere is Anna then?â
Mona scratched her head in confusion, then looked around and said, âIâm curious as well. | just got some food because weâve been busy all night â317 She Is My Life and havenât had dinner yet. Anna used to be a medical student, so sheâs off volunteering.
=
To Monaâs surprise, Wayne had already dashed off into the distance before she could finish her words.
Andrew also reacted quickly and assisted the nurse in transporting the patient to the morgue.
As for Mona, she had no idea what was going on. She raised her head and asked, âWhat on earth is going on? Could somebody please explain it tome?â
Gabe paused for a moment before saying, âA nurse just told Wayne that she was going to operate on a woman named Anna Gabriel and that he needed to sign for it. So, Wayne just assumed the woman was her.*â
Mona sighed and added, âDonât worry, nothing bad happened to her. Our car collided with a guardrail, and I took it in for repairs.â
Upon that, Everyone let out a relieved sigh. Scott regained his sense and leaned over Randall, rubbing his eyes and muttering, âWayne just scared the hell out of me!â
Randal rubbed his hair, then asked, âDo you still want to see Anna?â
Scott shook his head, âNo, letâs go home. Iâve got a full schedule tomorrow.â
They then both left, followed by Gabe.
At the same time, Mona stood in the hallway with her food, not knowing what to do.
Andrew looked at her and said, âLetâs go, Mona. The hospital will probably prepare dinner for Anna. | just finished designing a new prototype; would you like to see it?â â317 She Is My Life Monaâs eyes lit up, and she exclaimed, âSure, Iâd love to!â
â| havenât had dinner either,â Andrew said, looking at the lunchbox she was holding.
Meanwhile, Wayne ran around the hospital like crazy until he came across Anna by ambulance at the entrance.
She was assisting the doctors and nurses in carrying the patients down, and her pink coat was stained with blood. The scene was chaotic, but she appeared to be calm and organized.
Wayne finally calmed down when he saw her and sighed with relief, thinking, Thank goodness youâre safe and sound, Anna!
Thatâs all that matters.
However, on second thought, Wayne sensed that something was off about the car accident. He thought, How strange. Iâve driven through that overpass thousands of times and Iâve never witnessed a car accident happen there. Also, the overpass is famous for its safety. Moreover, over the years, only one car accident was reported taking place on that overpass. However, the car accidents that happened today is so serious that it caused dozens of people to injure and even several deaths! Something is fishy about the whole thing. | need to ask Gabe to thoroughly investigate the car accident.
Then Wayne called Gabe, âGabe, | donât think the car accident is merely an accident. You have three days to investigate the accident.â
âGotiit, Sir!â Gabe answered.
Meanwhile, in the ambulance, a doctor knelt to wipe his brow. He said to Anna, âIâve never seen you before. Are you a doctor here?â
