Ye Hao froze in horror and his heart clenched painfully when he heard her mention that she was back because her family was here. He knew that she did not include him as part of her family but they had once been a family as well. They had once been each otherâs family.
He Xiyan finally turned around and looked at him expressionlessly. His face and even his expressions were familiar to her but this familiarity was now meaningless.
âYe Hao, you should go home. Itâs so late and Iâm sure Han Xue is waiting for you to be home. Youâre only inviting scandal by loitering around my house and itâs only going to make things awkward for me,â she said.
She truly felt that Ye Hao shouldnât be loitering outside any longer, neither should he be seeking her out. All of this was meaningless.
Ye Hao shook his head and said anxiously, âYou donât need to concern yourself with Han Xue. Yan Yan, thereâs nothing between us and I swear Iâll extract myself from this sham of a marriage as soon as possible.â
He deliberately emphasized the words âsham of a marriageâ because he was afraid that she would misunderstand.
He Xiyan couldnât help but burst out in laughter. She felt that he was being ridiculous. They already had a child today, so how could he claim that their marriage was a sham? Did he take her for a child?
âGo home!â she said in irritation. Three years had passed since they got divorced and she no longer wanted to have anything to do with her ex-husband. She was exhausted.
Ye Haoâs breath caught in his throat. Each word she said was like a string that tightened around his heart, sending waves of raw pain radiating outward.
âYan Yanâ¦â he started but He Xiyan cut him off.
âThatâs enough, Ye Hao,â she said as she looked at him coldly. âFrankly, thereâs no need for you to seek me out just to tell me this, neither do you need to act as though you love me. Iâm not a fool and I know what you place first in your heart. I know it very well.â
He Xiyan said coldly. She was really tired of his loving act; she knew him very well and knew the things that mattered most to him was power and money.
Ye Hao stiffened and his face suddenly turned pale under the lamplight, as though he was very surprised to hear such words from her mouth. She had never spoken to him in that manner before.
âYan Yanâ¦â Ye Hao said as his hands balled into fists. A layer of cold sweat had already formed on his palms. âYouâre mistaken. Youâve always been the most important person to me. I know I told you to get lost, divorced you, and even hit you and Yuan Yuan, but I only did those things in the heat of anger because I cared too much about you.â
He Xiyan smiled wryly when she heard his hurried explanations.
She was surprised that he hadnât changed at all and that he was still trying to charm her with sweet nothings and lame arguments.
âYe Haoâ¦â she said as she pushed him away. âPlease donât ever mention this again because Iâm not interested in listening to your explanations. Please stop trying to put on a loving act. You claim that Iâm the most important person to you but this is just your own assumption. If you truly cared about me, you wouldnât have stood idly by while I lost the custody rights to Yuan Yuan. Neither would you have let me enter the courts feeling helpless and all alone. If you truly cared about me, you would have never forced me to cut off all contact with my child. If you truly cared about me, you wouldnât have gotten together with Han Xue so quickly after we divorced and you even had a child with her.â
He Xiyan used the word âactâ. She used to believe everything he said in the past and she jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire because she believed his words.
