It had been ten years since Y/N attended Nevermore, and like many, he saw it as the best time of his life. Teenage romances, thrilling dramas and questionable organised parties- Y/N could only wish he could go back to simpler times. He would get his wish- in a way.
A ten year reunion party was being held at Nevermore and Y/N couldn't wait. To see his friends again would be one thing but there was something more specific he was looking forward to. Seeing Wednesday Addams.
For all of the years he attended Nevermore Academy, he found Wednesday to be something of an enigma. She was mysterious, cold and unfeeling- not to mention one of his closest friends. As was Wednesday's style, they had hardly spoken to one another since their graduation. Although they did have a friendly conversation a few years back, he quite literally bumped into her at a bookstore and they exchanged very few words.
He had just one problem- Y/N had a daughter, Clementine- she'd just recently had her eighth birthday. Of course, it wasn't her specifically that was the issue, moreso a matter of being unable to find a babysitter to take care of her. Her mother had passed in a car accident quite a while ago, five years ago maybe- he was heart broken for a long while, but taking care of Clem really kept him on his toes. Y/N had two options: one, forget about the reunion and take care of Clementine. Or two, take Clementine with him to the party. Obviously he chose the latter of the two- what could go wrong?
Y/N stepped out of the taxi wearing a simple white button up shirt, deep green suit pants and a black tie with some brown oxford shoes on his feet. He also wore a thin black jacket. He held Clementine's hand as they began walking down the frontage of the Academy. "Now, remember what I told you about setting people on fire, Clem'- don't get too excited, alright?" He spoke softly. It sounded as though the party was already in full swing, with music and cheers coming from the hall. A number of ex-pupils were walking through the large doors, many of which he noticed were couples that he recalled dated during his tenure at Nevermore.
"Okay." She spoke, her voice strong with confidence and determination. "Is this the school you went to, daddy?" Clementine questioned as she looked around, clearly in awe of the building.
"Sure was, kiddo" Y/N answered with a smile. "Do you think you'll want to come here when you're older?" He asked, looking down at the tiny figure.
"Heck yeah!" She cheered with a wide smile.
He grinned at her response and pushed the door to the hall open. "Woah!" She gasped at the interior of the hall. With large gold tassels running down the walls- shiny table covers and bright flashing lights overhead. Eye-catching was an understatement. "This is awesome!" She yelled, jumping up and down.
Rather than looking at the obnoxious decor, Y/N was searching the room- taking in familiar faces, judging those who had aged well and those who had not. It was apparent to him that a considerable amount of effort was but into the design of the decorations and ornaments- he wondered who had put the effort into it. "Oh, hey! A buffet too." Y/N grinned ear to ear. A buffet was always a win in his books.
One friend he did keep up with after graduation was Xavier- the pair became quite close during the latter years at the Academy- they even moved into the same dorm. Hell, they even rented an apartment together for a while after their graduation until Y/N met Clementine's mother. When Y/N managed to book a babysitter for the weekend, he and Xavier would go on hikes and camping trips- occasionally with a few others from their friend group. Further yet, he was one of Clementine's favourite people.
Clementine was grabbed from Y/N's grip as Xavier picked her up and threw her in the air. "Look who brought the party!" He cheered, catching her as she came back down. He held her under one arm. "God- you've gotten so big since I last saw you!" He gawked while gently pinching her cheek- clearly acting over the top to make Clementine laugh.
"Uncle Xavier!" Clem cheered as she hugged into him.
With a laugh and a hand on his briskly beating heart, Y/N shook his head. "Jesus man! You scared the crap outta me." He complained but light-heartedly.
"Ah-ah, dad! Language!" Clementine scolded with an outstretched hand.
"Yeah, dad. Language." Xavier mimicked before setting Clementine down on the ground. He then firmly hit Y/N on the side of the arm. "Do you want your little girl growing up to be a little delinquent like you were, huh?" He teased.
Of course, Y/N wasn't a complete delinquent and any trouble he found himself in was likely caused by a certain raven haired girl. That being said, he did find himself in a lot of detentions.
"What's a de... delinquent?" Clementine questioned, looking up at Y/N.
He rolled his eyes slightly. "A super cool student, that's what." He played off. He looked over to Xavier. "No Bianca tonight?" He asked.
Xavier shook his head and rolled his eyes. "Not yet, she's going to be late." He explained with a slight fidget, almost as if he had relived a sore memory.
"What did you do?" Y/N asked- he knew the look of a man who had just been given a rollicking.
Xavier brought his teeth together as he breathed a tense breath. "I might have spilled my cranberry juice on the dress she was wearing tonight- should have seen her face man, if looks could kill."
Y/N couldn't refrain from bursting into a fit of hearty laughter as his head shook in disbelief. "Of course you did." He managed to get out through periods of laughing. Noticing Xavier's seemingly embarrassed expression, Y/N called down. He cleared his throat. "Shall we sit down?" Y/N asked, nodding over to an empty table.
"Sure." Xavier nodded, the slight sign of a smile still on his curled lips.
The three of them sat at a table and chatted for maybe half an hour- mostly Clementine complaining about the homework her least favourite teacher always gave. Y/N and Xavier planned their next camping trip and gossiped- telling Clementine reminiscent stories of their time at Nevermore. But, he could feel a singeing gaze on the side of his head. Only one person's stare could burn a hole through one's skull. He turned to his right and noticed one Wednesday Addams averting her gaze as soon as she was caught.
Xavier caught on and smirked- looking between the pale figure and Y/N. "Go on, man. I'll keep the little princess entertained." He insisted.
Y/N scoffed and looked at Xavier. "Oh yeah- and how d'you expect to do that? You're like one of the most boring people I know." He deadpanned.
Xavier pulled a pen out of his jacket pocket and a napkin off the table. "I'm sure she would like to see a few party tricks." He grinned smugly.
Y/N contemplated it for a moment. He wasn't sure if Wednesday was galring at his to try and catch his attention or merely because she was reliving unwanted memories. He huffed. "Alright- but just make sure you don't scare her." He pointed to Clem. "She can be quite the pyromaniac so it'll be your funeral if you do." He assured, leaning over to kiss the crown of his daughter's head before getting to his feet.
He brushed off his shirt and headed over to the table at which a raven haired girl was sat. The closer he got, the more clear her appearance got. She hadn't really changed at all since that last time he saw her- besides a few more freckles across the nose and her eyes seemed to have become a little wider. She still braided her hair in those dual pigtails and the lack of makeup was still a running theme as well as her ever pale skin.
"Y/N." Wednesday greeted, nodding in acknowledgement as he reached her table.
"Wends'." Y/N greeted back, sitting in the chair beside her. "You look beautiful." He told her truthfully. She seemed to twitch at his compliment. "How are you?" He asked in an almost mocking tone with a smile. He already knew the answer- parties were certainly still not her scene judging by her uncomfortable disposition.
She galred at him and shook her head. "I am thoroughly contemplating on leaving before I am forced to gouge my eyes out with these cocktail sticks." She uttered, picking up a small wooden cocktail stick that presumably had some food stuck on it not to long ago.
She cocked her head as she observed Y/N. He had aged well but a lot considering he had been raising a child alone for the last five years- at least he'd changed since she saw him at that book store all those years ago. In fact, it was just a week prior to his then girlfriend's death and Wednesday had something weighing guilty on her conscience.
That day when they bumped into one another, she had a vision- she watched as his girlfriend got into an car accident which resulted in her death. And she never told him- how could she? At the time it seemed so wrong to do so. Whenever she had a vision, she couldn't stop what she would see from happening- so what would be the point in telling someone about it? Why would she tell Y/N what was going to happen, only for his final days with his lover to be ones wrought with despair and fixed in anxiety. It wouldn't have been fair.
"How are you?" She asked back- her tone was serious, raising a brow as she took in his handsome features. In her youth she had quite an appreciation for his striking looks and that appreciation had seemingly grown during their time apart.
"Not bad." Y/N answered honestly with a slight nod of his head. "I hear you published another novel a few weeks ago." He noted with a proud grin.
Wednesday gave a brief nod. "Have you read it?" She asked, curiously and almost timidly- like she was embarrassed.
"No, I haven't had the chance yet." He admitted with a slight shake of his head as he answered. Y/N certainly intended on reading it though.
"Good. Don't." She demanded with a sigh of relief.
Y/N furrowed his brows together as he narrowed his eyes. "Why?"
"If I tell you, you're much more likely to read it." She informed him.
"Likewise if you don't- I'll read it to figure out why you're embarrassed." He retorted, leaning back in his seat.
Wednesday's eyes grew a little wider as her cheeks lit up with a red tint. "Embarrassed? I am not embarrassed." She demanded firmly.
He leaned close up to her ear- close enough to feel her cold body heating up "The little blush on your cheeks would say otherwise." He murmured into her ear before moving his head away. He knew how to make her weak at the joints- how to break down her walls. He would do it often when they were together, finding her flustered appearance amusing.
The sensation of his warm breath against her neck was enough to send sparks down her spine- ricocheting down her thin ribs and her limbs. "I have no idea what you are talking about." She informed him sternly.
"Mm, okay." He muttered. His eyes moved to the drink she had on the table. "What have you got?" Y/N asked curiously. If he remembered correctly, Wednesday was openly against alcohol and it was something he doubted had changed.
"Water." She answered plainly. A moment of silence grew between them, not inherently awkward but neither was it comfortable. If there was one thing Wednesday hadn't anticipated about growing distant from her old friends at Nevermore was how alone she would feel. Everyone had moved on- Enid had gotten married with Ajax, Bianca and Xavier got back together (again), Eugene had found himself a lady who was equally enthusiastic about nature as he was and Y/N had a kid of his own. She however hadn't had such experiences. Truth be told, she had fallen deeply in love with Y/N- but facing her feelings back then was far too big a hurdle for a teenage Wednesday and she didn't believe he would feel the same way. Then, a few years after they graduated, she found out that he had gotten with someone else and her heart shattered. She thought she would never find any happiness and thus far she was correct.
The sound playing in the background changed to something slower paced as the volume got louder. Y/N got to his feet and held out his hand to the raven haired girl sat beside him. Wednesday looked up at him with furrowed brows. He motioned with his head to the dance floor. He noticed a small turn in the corners of her lips before it straightened out once again as she slipped her slender hand into his- her hand was practically engulfed by his. For the first time that night, he got a real view of her attire and he was in awe. The dress flowed down bellow her knees and reached up to just bellow her shoulders and the sleeves stopped high up on her arm with the lining a bleached white with floral patterning. Even her shoes were befitting to her attire, healed boots that were tight around her legs and reached up to below the knee. Y/N guided Wednesday over to the dancefloor where so many other ex-students were dancing.
With two hands placed on the apex of her hips, she moved closer to him and wrapped her cold, pale arms over and around his neck. A sixteen year old him could have only dreamt of a moment like this with Wednesday at the Rave'N- something so intimate and innocent all at the same time. It appeared that others had the same idea as the dance floor became flooded with more ex-pupils and soon enough they lost themselves in the sea of bodies. The lack of space only caused them to be drawn closer together, to the point to which their hips and chest were forced to meet one another. While they each felt nervous flutters in their respective stomachs, they didn't take their eyes off of one another- he found himself enamoured by her deep, dark eyes and he couldn't have looked away even if he wanted to.
"So are you going to tell me why I can't read your new book-? You used to let me read your old drafts." Y/N pointed out, a sly smirk matching his confident tone- he was certain he would be able to get an answer out of her.
"Why should I tell you?" Wednesday shot back, still gazing up at him. "Ask again and I just might shove my heal through your throat." She threatened.
His grin grew wide as he chuckled. "Its nice to hear your tongue is as sharp as ever, Wends'." He chimed, clearly amused which obviously didn't please Wednesday. She was threatening him to ensure he would stop asking questions. She stayed silent so Y/N decided to push further and start guessing on a reason why she was so opposed to him reading her latest novel. "Did you... write a lewd scene in it or something?" He asked, raising his brows.
Wednesday screwed up her features in disgust of his suggestion. "Y/N, do you think so little of me?" She scolded with a firm shake of her head.
He hummed and shook his head as well. "Of course not, cariño mÃo." He answered- he had learnt a few Spanish phrases from his time hanging with her. She seemed taken aback by the phrase but soon shook it off. He puffed his cheeks out in thought. "Did you... write me as one of the characters?" He asked.
Wednesday's face became tense as she shook her head. "Don't be so ridiculous- of course I didn't-"
He cut her off- he knew that look on her face very well. He'd found her out. "Aww, Wends'... you did!" Y/N gawked with a wide smile. "That is so adorable." He continued.
"It is not adorable." She hissed through gritted teeth. She gave him a hefty boot in the shin but kept her arms around his neck. He winced but didn't retaliate. "Tell anyone and I will murder you." She threatened with cheeks as flushed and as red as a cherry. It was true, she did base one of her characters off of him- in fact, he becomes the main character's love interest.
He simply laughed and shook his head. "Alright, alright." He backed down. "But I am definitely reading your book now, I need to know what you think of me." He mused with a grin.
"Believe me, you really don't want to know what I think of you..." She murmured with a slight sigh, her forehead fell forward as it made contact with his chest.
Y/N furrowed his brows as he looked down at her. "And why's that?" He questioned. Wednesday stayed quiet and her head stayed down. "'Nes'?" He called quietly as his thumb gently caressed over the hook of her hip. She continued to stay quiet and keep her head down. A frown came to his face. "Hey..." He murmured softly as he lifted a hand and hooked a finger under her chin, gently lifting her head up. Lifting her head up, he could see her face had a large pout on it- like she was trying to hold back a wall of tears. "What's wrong?"
She pursed her lips together as she shook her head. "Nothing.." She muttered quietly. For so long she had held her feelings about him locked up for so long and being as close to him as she was... it was killing her- like he had put him on a wooden rack and had begun stretching out her limbs. The slow music died down and many people left the dance floor. The music picked up again as the song changed to something more upbeat. Her chest grew tight as a knot tied in her throat, much like a noose had been wrapped around her neck. "For so long I've... I- I... love you-"
Y/N opened his mouth to speak again but was cut of by a small tug on his shirt. "Daddy! My turn!" Clementine shouted, her smile wide and giddy.
He let go of Wednesday's waist before holding his hands out. "Come on then, sweetie." He encouraged with a grin on his lips.
"Not with you, silly." She giggled and shook her head. "With the princess." She spoke as she pointed up at Wednesday.
Wednesday's eyes grew wide as her skin git paler as if that was possible- like all the blood had been drained out of her body. "Me?" She asked. If there was one thing she truly hated, it was children.
Clementine nodded profusely, her eyes sparkled at the sight of Wednesday. "Yes, princess. You." Y/N mocked with an amused grin.
Wednesday's face writhed with conflict. She'd never been referred to as a princess before- she could only hope she was an evil one. Her eyes darted between Y/N and Clementine before she gave a quiet sigh. She leant down and took Clementine's hands in her own. It was difficult to do, dance with a child, especially one so much shorter than Wednesday was but she made it work. She hated to admit it but seeing the glee and joy on the little girl's face made Wednesday's heart jump in her chest.
Y/N watched on from the side and smiled to himself, his heart might as well have been literally melting seeing the two dancing- he was almost certain he could see a smile on Wednesday's face too. He had heard what she told him and he was certainly surprised- he didn't think someone as cold as Wednesday Addams could love another person. It hurt him a little though, knowing that she felt the same way he did all those years ago- and now he wasn't sure if he felt the same way as he did back then. But he shook the thoughts aside for a while and just watched and admired the sight before him.
Y/N felt an arm slink over his shoulder as the figure beside him pushed him a little- making them both sway from side to side in time with the rhythm of the song. The smell of alcohol was prominent. "You should ask her on a date." Xavier spoke into his ear, trying to beat the loud thumping music in terms of volume. Some things never changed, Xavier was never able to handle his drink very well, but he could get away with it, he just became a big goof when drunk. Y/N shrugged his shoulders dismissively. Xavier sighed and shook his head. "Life moves on, man. You have to move with it." He told him. "Look at them." He pointed at Clem and Wednesday with his finger while the rest of his hand held what seemed to be a martini. "Do you see how happy they both are- you deserve to be happy too. I know how much you liked her- and maybe it's the alcohol talking but this might be your chance to start over, y'know." Xavier ranted before he drunkenly hiccuped.
His head turned over to the screaching of the heavy wooden doors as Bianca walked in. "Uh oh. She still looks pissed..." Xavier grumbled. "I... Uh... I'll be back with you in a bit- if she doesn't murder me." He told Y/N before heading over to Bianca.
Y/N mulled over Xavier's drunken words. They were almost poetic and it really did sink into his head. Maybe it was time to move on and live his life. In the time it took to break out of his train of thought, the two had stopped dancing. Clementine, who was jumping up and down for joy turned and hugged one of Wednesday's legs. The taller of the two froze up for a moment before smiling and patting the girl on the head- then the pat turned into a stroke with Wednesday's spindly fingers running through Clementine's hair.
Y/N had never expected Wednesday to be so good with children- she was calm and patient but also seemingly caring and loving, things that weren't usually associated with her. But he couldn't deny how much he enjoyed seeing it. Y/N winced and panicked as the excitement seemed to get the better of Clementine while a small flame burst out at the end of one of Wednesday's pigtails- but the panic was soon over as she spotted it and pinched the budding flame between her forefinger and thumb, putting it out swiftly.
Clementine grabbed Wednesday's hand and dragged her over to where her dad stood. "Isn't she beautiful, dad!" She exclaimed.
Y/N skilled and nodded. "She sure is, sweetie."
"Can she have a sleep over one day! I want her to do my hair like she does- and I want to dress like her too- she's so cool!" Clem ranted on and on.
Y/N looked over to Wednesday who appeared to be in awe of the little girl- presumably confused as to why she wasn't scared of her. He and Wednesday met eyes and they locked for a moment. "I think that's up to the pretty princess." Y/N told Clementine, that same mischievous smirk on his lips.
Wednesday raised a brow and cocked her head. "I suppose." She nodded slightly. She looked down at Clementine. "Maybe I could teach you how to dissect rodents?"
Clementine's face contorted into one of disgust. "Eww!" She whined before laughing. "That would be so cool!" She quickly added.
"Then I guess that's settled." Y/N mused with a nod of his head. "Wednesday, how does Wednesday afternoon sound, this week?" He asked. He was unsure if she would say yes to his offer, he imagined she was a busy woman.
"Of course, that sounds positively like a plan for disaster." She deadpanned.
"Yay!" Clementine yelled, once more bouncing on her feet in joy. She grabbed her dad's hand while keeping hold of Wednesday's before tugging on the two of them. "I want to dance again!"
Wednesday rolled her eyes but Y/N could see through the front she put on, the happiness behind her eyes. The three of them made their way to the dancefloor where they found themselves for the majority of the evening- besides from taking an hour and a half to sit and eat with Xavier and Bianca- and eventually Ajax and Enid when they decided to turn up fashionably late.
It had been everything Y/N could have wished for from the night- and even more. To see those he held so close again was like no other feeling he had ever experienced. He and Clementine went home very tired but very happy that night.
