Jo's POV
The next morning I join Dean and Rory as they eat breakfast. Rory had ordered eggs, while Dean got pancakes,
She sat there eyeballing his food. Finally he caught what she was doing and trained her. We see Lorelai pass by again.
"That's 12," Dean says.
"Mmm. Two more and she'll come in," Rory says.
"I don't know. She's been walking back and forth out there for 20 minutes, and she still hasn't made it to the door."
"Yeah, but look how much closer to the building she's gotten," I tell him.
We watch as she goes back.
She's like a shark out there.
"Why don't we just bring her something out?" he asks.
"No, she and Luke have been in this fight for too long. She's got to do this," Rory replies.
"You're cruel," Dean tells her.
"Tough love, baby. Oops, I think she's coming in."
"How can you tell?"
"She's got shoe-sale face on."
"Okay, I did it. I'm in," Lorelai says.
"Good girl," Rory says.
"That wasn't so bad. Tool a while, but not so bad. Wait. Why are you eating?" she asks.
"You took 30 minutes to come in."
"But I'm here now, and hey, I'm like cheese."
"What?" Dean and I ask.
"She gets better with time," Rory replies.
"Ah," Dean says.
"Sorry, gouta, we got school," Rory tells her.
"But-"
"Order breakfast, and I'll leave you the paper."
"No, but-"
"I'll see you tonight."
"Dean, Jo, don't leave me."
"You'll be fine."
Rory puts her hand on Lorelai's shoulder.
"You'll be fine," she repeats again.
Rory heads for her bus, and Dean and I head to school.
--
Today is Sookie and Jackson's wedding. I've gotten close enough to Sookie and the Gilmores that I'll be attending the wedding.
Luke was nice enough to let me borrow his truck to go buy a dress. When I get back I see Kirk.
"Hi, Kirk. Well, don't you look fancy."
"Thank you. I bought this for Sookie's wedding. I'm hoping to meet a woman."
I don't know what to say, so I nod and give him a smile.
"Good for you, Kirk."
I head upstairs. I drop my stuff on my bed and turn around. Immediately my eyes lock on my twin.
"Jess?"
His eyes glanced at me and then back at Luke.
"So? What do you think?" he asks.
Luke stares at him, thinking.
"Things are gonna have to be different, Jess," Luke replies.
"I know."
More staring.
"Okay," Luke says.
"Okay?" Jess asks with a small smile.
"So you're staying?"
"I'm staying."
"He's staying!?"
"Okay then. Stay. I gotta get back to the diner" Luke says.
"I'll help you close up later, alright?" Jess replies.
"Sure."
I ran up to Jess and hug him.
"I'm so happy you're back," I tell him.
I pull back.
"I've got to get ready, or I'm gonna be late," I say before running to the bathroom.
As I do my hair and make up I can't stop smiling. I'm so happy he's back. I put on my dress and my old black flats. I walk downstairs.
"I'm heading off," I tell Luke.
"Okay. Have fun."
"I'll try. Bye!" I yell walking out the door.
I walk out and see Dean's truck. Because it's too far of a walk Rory instructed Dean to give me a ride to the inn because her and Lorelai had to be there early.
"Heya, Bean."
"Hi, Jo."
Dean and I never really talked, and when we did we were never alone. We always had Rory, Lane, or even Lorelai. We are always friendly to each other though.
We'll say hi, or wave when we see each other. It's to have people that are even acquaintances. In New York I didn't even really have those.
We arrive and quickly find Rory. We see Babette and Miss Patty singing.
"Hey, you," Dean says.
"Hey, you look nice," she tells him.
"Thank you. You look beautiful," he replies.
"Thank you. Jo, you look so pretty, you need to dress up more often," she tells me.
"Thank you. I'm not the biggest fan of dresses," I reply.
"So, uh, how many cocktails caused that?" he asks, talking about Babette and Miss Patty.
"Oh, they haven't had any cocktails yet," she replies.
"Really?" he asks.
"Oh, yeah. When they start having cocktails, we're gonna have to hide you," she says.
"I'm looking forward to that," he says.
"I'm looking forward to seeing that," I tell him, then his phone rings.
"Huh, I'm not sure who'd be calling me now. Hello?"
"Uh, sure, hold on. It's Paris," he says.
"What? Hello?" Rory says.
Rory steps away and I look up at Dean.
"How does that girl still amaze me with how crazy she is?" I ask.
"I don't know. I feel like we should be used to it by now," he replies.
"I wouldn't be surprised if she had us both chipped. Make it easier to hunt down Rory," I add.
"I wouldn't put it past her," I says.
Rory hangs up and Dean takes his phone back.
"I think we won," she says.
"Wow. Uh, that's great," he tells her.
"Yeah," she says.
"So, I guess this means you'll be spending in the summer in Washington," he says.
"Oh, nothing's decided yet. Believe me. Let me do a little research, and then I'll figure something out," she replies.
Lorelai comes up and we all greet each other.
"You know what's really great about being a grown up? This," she says, holding up her drink.
She is definitely a little drunk.
"Well, thanks for the life lesson," Rory tells her.
"Dean, you clean up really nice," she tells him.
"Thank you," he replies.
"You know we're gonna have to hide him from Patty and Babette once they hit the hooch," she tells Rory.
"Already told him," Rory replies.
"And I'm already looking for hiding spots," I tell her as I the piece of pineapple from the top of her glass.
"Okay, well, I've got to check on some things. See you guys later," she says before walking off.
I split off and end up leaning on the piano as Morey plays, Kirk sings and Lane taps a beat with her drum sticks.
I decide to wander off and see Rory and her dad head for the pond. I walk the opposite direction. When I get to the other side I spot Rory and Jess.
I almost fall over when she kisses him. After she runs off he turns around and happens to spot me. I rush back and find my seats because the ceremony is about to start.
