All eyes were on the Duchess of Vallua.
âW- we, uhâ¦â¦â
The Duchess was muttering with a pale face as she couldnât find any excuse. She grabbed her sonâs wrist and went out quickly.
Niel, who was being taken away by the Duchess, stared at me as if he would tear me to death, but I only waved my hands to him.
***
âMy name is Michaela George. Iâm still lacking much but I educate the children.â
âMy name is Candida Dimonte. When I was young, I worked as a maid for the Empress.â
Those famous godmothers surrounded me and introduced themselves.
They all looked at me with glistening eyes as if they were expecting something.
I am also Dubbledâs child even though I am adopted. I was even given the Duchess name as my middle name.
Also the Empress was interested in me since the Luminous medicine incident.
Moreover, I corrected Niel back then. It naturally made my value soared.
I grinned as I tried not to express my burden.
âI should keep it a secret that I could read ancient language.â
Itâs already crowded, itâll be even more annoying when that fact is revealed.
A loud voice came from the door when I was distressed by the ladies.
âCamilla has arrived!â
The people gathered in twos and threes stepped back and bowed their heads.
I went near my aunt, bowed a little and saw Camilla.
I saw her in my previous lives but I still feel great seeing her. She always acts elegantly and never wasted any movement.
The host, Countess Walt, approached her with a smile.
âYou came here. Itâs an honour for us.â
âItâs a good party. I can feel you are meticulous in handling it.â
âIâm glad to hear that.â
Camilla looked around and said,
âItâs a great party, so letâs all enjoy it.â
Only then did the people with their hands on their chests and their backs bent went on their ways.
The noise returned to the party.
Camilla settled herself on a chair.
There arenât many seats, but she sat at a good place.
âAs expected of the number one socialite.â
They all acted completely different from the Empressâ party last time.
They have factions, but they restrain the fighting.
The people enjoyed the party freely, but they didnât forget the rules.
âThere are still a lot of people who want to ask her to be their godmother.â
She was surrounded by young ladies and their parents.
Camilla was very benevolent, she treated everyone fairly. She didnât even become a godmother to anyone.
Suddenly,
âLady Dubbled.â
I was startled to see her staring at me.
âHuh?â
I didnât think sheâd call me in such a public space.
When I glanced at my aunt, she nodded and I headed to Camilla.
âI greet you.â
âSit down here.â
Then she told the crowd around her.
âCan everyone leave us? I need to talk about something with the lady.â
It was needless to say that people were surprised. While stepping back, everyone glanced at this side with a curious expression.
âItâs been a few days.â
âYes.â
âWhat have you been doing?â
âI took a walk and read books.â
âIs it a book with the passage you told me last time?â
âYes! Itâs my favorite book.â
âIâm thankful.â
Then she looked at me with gentle eyes.
âI want to give a present to you. I was wondering what kids would like the most these days, but I decided to give you what you want instead. Is there anything you want?â
She asked me.
âA gift for me?â
âYes, Iâm grateful for the lady. Thanks to you, I could find someone precious.â
She seems to have decided to accept Leticia and Lionel.
âShe will soon officially be the Grand Duchess and the Dukeâs child.â
I didnât say anything and smiled.
âDonât you wonder whoâs so precious? You must be curious.â
âYouâre very wise, so I trust your intention. If you donât tell me the details then I donât think I should hear it.â
Her eyes, which treated me like a child, changed.
âLady is very clever.â
âIâm flattered.â
âNo, youâre really clever. I mean it.â
She stared at me. I didnât avoid her gaze.
âI appreciate your words, but I donât think I am clever.â
âWhat do you want and need?â
âIf itâs necessaryâ¦â
I pretended to think.
âWait, but thatâs something you canât give me.â
âArenât you underestimating me?â
She asked playfully. I said firmly.
âYou canât give me people.â
âPeople? Do you need people? You already have so much of them. Your capable father, outstanding brothers and aunt who is the most popular. I heard that a lot of talented people are around you.â
âWhat I need is someone who can teach me. Dad said that. Iâm Lady of Dubbled, so Iâll have to act like it. But Iâm still young, so I donât know anything.â
ââ¦â¦you want a godmother?â
âBut my family canât do that. I need someone to be my second mother.â
ââ¦â¦â
âI really need someone who I can trust and follow like a mother.â
âI see. Youâre right.â
Then, a chocolate fountain came in. It was a gift from the party organizer to the children.
As I stared at the children running excitedly, I felt dizzy.
âIâm gonna be excited too!â
I thought so and shouted, âWow!â
âGo and see.â
At the words of Camilla, I got up and went to the chocolate fountain.
As I walked, I felt Camilla looking at my back.
While I was looking at the reflection on the fountain, Camilla beckoned her maid and looked at me.
âDubbledâ¦find outâ¦how far her education is.â
After barely reading the shape of the mouth reflected in the fountain, I moved the biscuit to the bowl and smiled.
It seemed that there was not much time left for me to have a godmother.
***
âAnd as expected!â
I looked out to the window in the carriage.
Camilla invited me for dinner. It was surprising and many people were shocked.
My family was discussing the invitation when I said,
âI want to go!â
Dad finally decided to send me there.
âIf you donât sit properly, youâll get hurt.â
â¦with Johann.
I answered, âYesâ¦â and straightened out my posture.
The men dressed in neat uniforms greeted us after we got off the carriage.
âI greet the children of Dubbled.â
We followed their guide into the room.
Johann waited in the reception room as I headed to the room next to it.
âCall me as soon as they make you feel uncomfortable.â
Johann whispered after I nodded and went into the room.
âSheâll be here soon, so please wait patiently.â
After the butler left the room, I sat down carefully on the sofa.
âYes.â
âThis is a VIP reception room where the Camilla
invites only a few people.â
âWowâ¦â
I looked around the room while admiring it.
Itâs not super luxurious, butâ¦
The room looks good. It was decorated with old ornaments but it looks elegant.
There was a terrace attached to the room, where sunlight poured through a large window and there were a lot of green trees and flowers outside.
âHuh? Is that a Haro flower?â
I screamed inwardly at the sight of the flower.
Itâs the flower that made me ill last time.
I went to the terrace to make sure that it was really a Haro flower, and if I am right, I will close the window.
After I put my hands on the window,
I could hear a voice calling someone from afar.
ââ¦.where are you!â
ââ¦.rince.â
âPrince Adrian!â
Thud!
I heard someone fall on the floor.
I turned my head in surprise.
âYouâ¦â
ââ¦â¦!â
The cool breeze scattered his blonde hair.
âAdrian!â
I was so surprised as he opened his mouth,
âIsaac, whyâ¦â
As soon as he was muttering something,
I heard a squeak of hinges from the window of the room next door.
âJohannâs in the room next door!â
I quickly pulled him and hid behind the curtain. And I caught Adrianâs wrist quickly and made him bend his knee.
If I could, I felt like stuffing him into my pocket.
My heart was pounding.
Adrian and Johann were naturally enemies. It was the biggest opportunity to put blades in each otherâs throats.
I slipped my head out of the curtain, wondering if Johann had opened the door.
But all I can see is the servantâs uniform.
âThe butler must have opened the door.â
I sighed, and looked straight ahead.
His eyes were staring at me from a close distance.
