Chapter 524 Agnes was about to hang up the phone when the person on the other end suddenly asked, âAre you looking for Mr. Whitfield?â
Hearing the name Mr. Whitfield made Agnesâ heart race.
But she managed to keep her voice steady, âIâm looking for Jared, is he available?â
Agnes didnât care to ask who this girl on the phone was, or why Jaredâs phone was with her.
It was none of her business.
The girl on the other end nervously said, âSorry, Mr. Whitfield left his phone at my place yesterday. He should be at the office now, so...â
Images started forming in Agnesâ mind and she couldnât help but feel a sense of irony For so many years, she had tried to avoid him.
And yet, it seemed that Jared was living the high life without her.
Agnes said, âIâll figure it out, donât worry about it.â
Then, she hung up.
She stood there, phone in hand, lost in thought.
In reality, her mind was a blank slate, she didnât know what she was thinking.
A receptionist sneered at her, âDonât embarrass yourself here. Our boss wonât see a nobody like you. Donât think you can rise to the top just because youâve had some interaction with the boss.â
Agnes ignored her and dialed another number.
She didnât have a lot of time, there were things that needed to be sorted out immediately.
Seeing Agnes ignore her, the receptionist looked even more contemptuous, âI have never seen such a shameless woman, she wonât even leave when told to.â This time, Agnes called Leo.
She had a good memory and still remembered his number.
Leo picked up quickly, âWhoâs this?â
Agnes said, âLeo, itâs Agnes. I need to see Jared, can you set up an appointment for me?â
The women behind her started laughing, âIs she actually calling Leo? How ridiculous.
Leo was the bossâs personal secretary.
He was second in command in the whole company.
Even the old shareholders had to show him respect.
Like the boss, Leo was always busy.
Why would he have time for this woman?
But to their surprise, Leo showed up quickly, even jogging over.
Leo said to Agnes, âYou could have just come up, no need for an appointment. Is anyone here giving you trouble?â
He then shot a look at the receptionists, âFrom now on, Ms. Pritchard doesnât need an appointment to visit. You all better be careful, if you offend her, no one can save you.â
Leo was a sharp one.
When Agnes called to set up an appointment, he suspected she was being given a hard time.
The receptionists were handpicked by him, they all admired Jared and were quite assertive.
Their attitude was good for keeping unwanted admirers at bay, but they didnât expect they were blocking someone Jared actually cared about.
As soon as Jared received Agnesâ call, he reported to Jared.
Jaredâs icy gaze felt like a dagger piercing through him, âHow did she get your number?â
