Chapter 390 Laura was fuming at Jaredâs cold heartedness.
She let go of Agnesâs hand, walked over to Preston and blurted out, âCanât you say something? Beatrice may have messed up big time, but sheâs still your kid Everybody screws up! Beatrice is just 19, canât you give her a shot at making things right?â
Preston stood up He turned around and muttered, âBeatrice screwed up too bad this time. Iâve got nothing to sayâ
Preston was dead set on keeping his mouth shut.
Laura was shaking with anger, pointing at Prestonâs back, âPreston, youâre heartless and ungratefull 1 mustâve been blind to wait for you for ten years, even risked my life to bear you a daughter. You promised to take care of us for life, have you? What have you done for us all these years? Beatrice is suffering in jail right now, and you, her father, donât give a damn! Is it because only the kids Julia bore are your kids? Are the ones I bore nothing to you?â
Laura lashed out in anger, white Preston, clearly pained, struggled to comprehend the situation. Both Agnes and Beatrice were his beloved daughters. He was blindsided by Beatriceâs extreme actions and by the revelation of Jaredâs unique background.
Now, with Agnes married, she held the title of Mrs. Whitfield. Preston found himself speechless.
But Agnes had had enough. âDad,â she interjected, Td like some time alone with Ms. Laura. Could you both step out?â
Jared exchanged a confused glance with Preston, but ultimately, they both exited the room, leaving the two women alone. Agnes softly closed the door.
Laura, always poised, now appeared shaken. Her red, swollen eyes betrayed a mix of anger and disdain. âHave you truly decided to betray your own sister?â she challenged.
All her life, Agnes felt patronized by Laura. However, Laura had underestimated the significance of Agnesâs relationship with Jared.
Now that Agnes wasnât backing down, Jared decided to let Beatrice rot in jail.
The Whitfield family was no joke, if Jared decided to have Beatrice locked up, she wouldnât be getting out any sooner.
If Beatrice really had to serve three years, it would ruin her youth, her life.
Agnes said bluntly, âMs. Laura, you should know, whether Beatrice goes to jail or not, itâs my callâ
Lauraâs eyes blazed with fury as she fixed her gaze on Agnesâs unyielding expression. I always knew it was you, plotting behind the scenes! Beatrice might be naive, but you? Youâre deliberately manipulating her to get back at me. This is about your father and me, isnât it? In your eyes, Iâve always been the one who tore your family apart.â
Agnes replied with measured calmness, âBeatrice isnât as innocent as you make her out to be. I didnât instigate her actions. I merely played alongâ
âYou deceitful woman! Whatâs your endgame?â
âSimple Be honest with me about my motherâs demise, and Beatrice will walk free. But if you deceive me, sheâll pay the price behind bars.â
Lauraâs lips curled into a sardonic smile. âSo, it all boils down to that. Why do you think I have those answers?â
âBeatrice is barely 19, Laura. Itâs hard to believe a girl her age would be so manipulative without someone guiding her actions.
Youâve orchestrated all this chaos just to drive a wedge between Jared and me, havenât you?â
