Chapter 31 This was the first time Agnes had seen Jared in casual wear. He was always prim and proper as if he lived in a bubble.
But now, dressed in a casual hoodie with a cartoon pattern, it felt like he was a different person. Just a piece of clothing made him seem a lot more approachable like he wasnât always on a pedestal.
Seeing Agnes staring at him, Jared asked, âWhat, isnât it pretty?â
Agnes quickly replied, âIt suits you well. It makes you look a lot younger.â
âYouâre saying I looked old before?â
This guy always picking a fight!
âDo you still want to eat the burger?â retorted Agnes.
Before he could reply, Agnes was already off, nimble as a deer, making her way into the bustling food street.
The street was a riot of lights and sounds, the smell of barbecue wafting in the air, a mix of spices creating an intoxicating aroma.
Without missing a beat, Agnes found âBurger Barnâ in a quiet nook of the food street.
After finding a seat, Jared asked her curiously, âWhereâs the menu?â
Agnes chuckled, âWhat menu? This ainât that type of place.â
And with that, she hollered towards the entrance, âHey boss, two of your signature beef burger meals. The big one.â
âAlright!â the boss called back amidst the hustle and bustle.
The burgers arrived quickly, and Agnes, famished, took a big bite, letting out a satisfied sigh. âThis is the best burger Iâve ever had. Every bite is full of juicy beef and veggies. Itâs so satisfying.
Jared took his time, taking a small bite of his burger.
Agnes watched him expectantly, âHow is it? Good, right?â
To Jared, it tasted pretty average.
But seeing Agnesâ bright, hopeful eyes, he calmly said, âItâs not bad.â.
Agnesâ eyes lit up, a hint of smugness flashing in them. âYou fancy folks who are used to highâend food, youâll find these simple delights delicious occasionally.â
Jared replied, âIf you like it, we can come more often.â
Agnes looked up, getting lost in Jaredâs deep gaze. His voice was gentle. His casual words made her heart race.
She felt there must be something wrong with her heart, as it seemed to beat wildly at the smallest things.
To divert her attention, Agnes started a new topic, âUm...could you do me a favour?â
She clearly saw Jaredâs frown upon hearing that.
Before she could ask for help, he seemed repulsed. It seemed like hope was thin.
Jared began, âI donât appreciate being addressed as âumâ. If you need help, at least address me properly, or Iâll think youâre not sincere.â
So he was bothered by that.
Agnes quickly responded with a smile, âMr. Whitfield, Mr. CEO, Mr. Handsome, Mr. Whitfield...
Jared shook his head, âStill not sincere enough.â
âThen what do you want me to call you?â
âTry calling me âhusbandâ.â Jared said coolly.
