Hailee and I were having a girl's day to ourselves. It had been so long since we hang out together so I had invited her over to my place. We would spend the day having fun together, gossiping and filling ourselves with so much junk food it would be hard to breath. It had been a few days since I had seen Mason but we kept texting and calling. We were doing pretty good and I was happier than I had been in a long time.
"I like seeing you like this." Hailee commented as she helped me apply some nail polish on my toenails.
"Seeing me like how?" I asked puzzled.
"Happy. It suits you. I mean I know I make you happy, like definitely, but this is a different kind of happy and I like it." She explained.
"Leave it to you Lee to make a conversation about yourself." I teased.
Hailee laughed sticking her tongue out at me and I did the same. We were so childish.
"And yes I do like this happy too."
"So when do I get to meet Mason?" She asked.
"Why? So you can threaten him in person?" I teased her recalling she had given Mason my number.
"You know me too well and before you tear me a new one. I didn't tell him where you lived. I only gave him your number which wasn't even in use at the time." She explained.
"I'm not mad Lee and I do have a new phone now." I said holding it up for her to see even though she had already seen it.
"Yeah the new phone and clothes and shoes. Looks like Mr. Lover boy is pulling all the stops." She said wriggling her eyebrows.
I laughed hitting her softly "Stop it."
"Do you think if you told him your phone was stolen he'd get you a new one?" She asked with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Lee no!" I reprimand already knowing what was going on in her mind.
She shrugged "What it was just an idea?"
We stared at each other after she said that before we both burst out laughing.
"I had really missed you Lee." I told her as she finished my toes and I began to work on hers.
"I had missed you too B. So tell me. Have you guys done the dirty yet? Is he huge down there? Does he have undergrowth or is he a shaver? Is he circumcised or does he have a Turkey neck?" She asked and I looked at her horrified before bursting out laughing.
Leave it to Lee to ruin a sweet moment with her dirty mind.
"Lee you need serious prayers." I admonished.
"Yeah yeah whatever."She said dismissing me with a wave of her hand "You still haven't answered me yet."
"Lee I've only know a guy for less than two weeks. I've not seen him shirtless let alone seen what he is packing." I told her quickly to end the topic but knowing Lee it was far from over.
"But I'm sure you want to though." She said.
" Want to what?" I played dumb avoiding eye contact.
"You know... get a peep behind the curtain." She grinned doing a little dance.
"What?! No!" I lied in a high pitched voice.
"Tell that to your voice. You always talk in an high pitch when you're lying." she said.
"Okay fine you got me. I am curious." I admitted.
"I knew it. Don't worry girl mama got you. By the time I am done you will be well on your way to sexy town with Mason in the drivers seat." Lee said and I laughed.
"You are crazy."
"I know but you love me." She replied sassily.
"That I do." I agreed smiling.
That's why I loved Lee. She always had my back and always made me laugh. We liked to joke that if we weren't into guys we would date each other. I'm sure we would because the nasty mouthed girl understood me in levels no one else could and I thanked the heavens daily for her.
A few hours later I was woken up by a loud knock on the door. I looked around and groaned out in frustration. Hailee and I had both passed out on the bed after eating every edible thing in the house. My laptop was still playing the movie we had been watching. It was either on loop or we hadn't been asleep for long because I had no idea what time it was. The annoying knock came again and I pried Lee's foot off my waist.
"Who is it?" I asked straightening my shorts to make sure my ass wasn't sticking out.
I was dressed in a pair of very short grey shorts and a gym bra. Lee was basically dressed the same way only her shorts were black. We had also undone each others hair and put them up in double buns so I wasn't ideally dressed to open the door but I couldn't care less.
"Its me, Mason." He replied and my hand froze on the lock for a second.
Mason!?
What was he doing at my house? I was debating whether to open the door or not when Lee did it for me. I didn't even hear her get up from the bed. I quickly shut the door again and leaned on it. Lee crossed her arms on her chest and glared at me.
"What are you doing?" Lee asked trying to pull me away from the door.
I almost laughed at her attempts. She was so tiny compared to me, I wondered why she was even trying. I didn't even budge.
"Keep your voice down!" I whisper yelled at her."Are you crazy? We can't open the door looking like this. We are barely dressed and I'm covered in food crumbs."
Lee just smiled at me. "Girl, you look great now open the door. I wanna see the famous Mason up close."
"She's right babe you look great." Mason said from the other side of the door making me groan.
"Babe??! Oh My God! He just called you babe. Now you have to open the door." Lee clapped excitedly.
I sighed in defeat and walked away quickly to find something to cover up as Lee opened the door.
"Hi you must be the famous Mason." She greeted and I rolled my eyes.
"Hello. I don't know about famous but I am Mason. You must be Hailee. I've heard great things about you." He replied.
I had my back turned to them and for once I couldn't find all those gigantic hoodies I wore around the house.
"Come in. B is hiding in there." Lee said inviting him in.
I groaned out loud. "I'm not hiding." I mumbled.
"What did you say? I didn't quite catch that. "A voice said behind me right next to my ear making me jump a flannel shirt clutched to my chest.
"Hi Mason." I greeted looking up at him shyly.
"Hi beautiful."He replied flashing a dimpled smile at me.
I knew the appropriate thing to do was hug him but that meant I would have to drop my shirt and expose myself to him. Mason seemed to read my mind because he kissed my forehead and grinned at me before a throat being cleared behind us made him turn around. I glared at Lee who just smiled mischievously at me.
"Since I don't want to be a third wheel I think I'll leave." Lee said looking around for her stuff.
" Come on Lee don't go. We were supposed to have a girl's day and a sleepover tonight." I whined not wanting her to leave.
"I know but your man is here so I gotta go." She said winking at me.
"Don't leave on my account. I actually brought enough food for three and I would like to know my girls best friend." Mason intervened and I could have kissed him then for always understanding me.
Lee pretended to mull over it for a while before agreeing "Free food and a chance to spill all the dirty details about B, who am I to say no." She said grinning with an evil look on her face.
I immediately started to regret asking her to stay. Hailee had no filter and I was sure Mason would end up leaving knowing things I'd rather keep a secret.
"I've changed my mind. Lee please leave." I requested and she laughed.
She propped herself up on the bed making herself more comfortable. "Don't worry babe I won't hold anything back. Mason ask away." She replied dragging out the babe in reference to what Mason had called me.
Mason laughed before turning to me.
"Don't worry. Nothing she says will change how I feel about you." He assured me.
"Don't be so sure. That girl seated innocently over there has more dirt on me than the freaking FBI. Don't say I didn't warn you." I told him.
"I think I can handle it. You look great by the way. I knew you were thick mama but seeing it all out there is doing things to me." He whispered that last part to me making me blush profusely.
"If you two love birds are done. I'm hungry and I got dirt to spill." Lee called out interrupting our moment.
I glared at her again and she just shrugged making grabby hands at the bag Mason was holding which I presumed had the food he was talking about. He laughed at her comment before handing her the bag. She got off the bed and went towards the kitchen section of the room to serve everything up.
My potential boyfriend and my best friend in one room sharing food. Those were the perfect ingredients for a disaster and I was going to be caught in the middle of it. But I also knew the day would either make or break my relationship with Mason.
I'm not saying it was up to Lee to decide who I dated but depending on how today went I'd have a clear answer on where Mason and I were headed. Anyone who got past Lee was worth keeping around. She was like a lioness defending her cubs when it came to me. If Mason survived her then he and I had a future together.
Good luck Mace, I thought to myself as I sat down to eat having found a hood to wear.
Lee and I were standing outside the gates that led to my place waiting for a motorbike to take her home. It had been a fun filled day and I was happy at the end of it all. Mason seemed to like Hailee so that was one problem solved, but I didn't know what Hailee thought about Mason and I was afraid to ask.
"So what do you think?" I asked nervously dragging out the so.
"About what?" Lee asked looking left and right, probably for a ride home but I wanted her to look at me.
"Mason."
"Oh well he's okay." she replied with a shrug and I was shocked.
Just okay. Mason seemed over the moon to meet her and be her friend yet all he got from her was a simple okay. I wanted to shout at her but I couldn't. Why was I so frustrated that my best friend didn't see all that I saw in Mason? That he was perfect and every girls dream guy. I wanted to shake Lee over and over like a ketchup bottle but I couldn't so I just took a deep breath to compose myself.
Then I heard laughing and I turned to Lee questioningly. She was bent over holding her knees and I almost hit her when I realized what she had done. She was joking to see my reaction and I had played right into her hands.
"Ha ha ha very funny." I grumbled sarcastically.
Lee straightened up and looked at me still chuckling.
"You should have seen your face!" She pointed at me and started laughing again.. "That. Was. Hilarious." She said between laughs and I just stood there and watched her laugh.
Finally she composed herself and took both my hands in hers.
"I really like him B. He's perfect for you. He makes you happy and not that it's any of my business but he's also packing, in his pocket and behind his zipper if you know what I mean." She said with a wink making me groan.
"Oh My God Lee. We are not going to talk about Masons package." I replied that last word coming out as a whisper.
"It's okay I know you'll tell me all the dirty details later once you do the deed. But in all seriousness don't screw this up B. You are the queen of sabotage so if you screw this I'll screw you." She threatened.
"Hey, I'm your best friend not his. You should be on my side." I replied.
She snorted and pinched my cheeks "Not this time sweet cheeks. Don't ruin this. You both like each other and I see a ring or two in the future. Far far future but it's there. Keep an open mind and heart. Promise me?" She insisted.
I opened my mouth to argue about the ring thing but she raised her eyebrow in a challenging way and I exhaled in defeat. "I promise." I finally said.
"Good now I gotta go. I love you. Take care and I'll see you in class." She said giving me a kiss on the cheek before hoping onto the motorcycle I hadn't noticed stop next to us.
"I love you too. Text me when you get home." I said waving goodbye.
I went back into the compound when she was out of sight. I was happy Lee approved of Mason. That was one problem solved. I just hoped she was right about us having a future because after today I was starting to fall for Mason and if he wasn't on board in the same train as me then I had no idea where we were going.
