Coincidentally, at this moment, Joe walked over with a plate of small cakes. He looked at the lively group and handed the cake to Charlotte.
âWhat are you all talking about? Looks like youâre having a good time,â Joe inquired.
Lena suppressed a smile and shook her head, saying, âNothing much, just some casual conversation.â
The more nonchalant Lena appeared the more suspicious Joe became.
However, he also understood that they didnât intend to tell him and didnât want to press further.
As everyone enjoyed their food and drinks, Trevor joined them. âI heard your memory hasnât fully recovered yet. You wouldnât forget me, would you?â he teased.
Charlotte innocently looked at him.
Trevor immediately realized and muttered, âWhy do I seem to be worse off than Joe?â
He solemnly extended a hand toward Charlotte and said, âIâm Trevor, the best man youâve met this past year. Just a little bit more, and the two of us would be togetherâ¦â
Before he could finish his sentence, a hand gripped his neck from behind. âAre you pretending I donât exist?â
Joe, with a cold smirk, looked at Trevor. He knew this man had been ambitious all along, unwilling to give up even now.
Trevor, undeterred, shrugged. âStrictly speaking, we are on the same starting line now. Fair competition is not out of the questionâ¦â
Seeing the murderous intent in Joeâs eyes, Trevor knew that if he continued, heâd be kicked out. He quickly threw a flirtatious look at Charlotte and walked away briskly.
Only then did Joe sit next to Charlotte, holding a glass of wine.
âWhat he just said⦠donât take it to heart,â Joe said, glancing nervously at Charlotte. Although he knew Trevor wouldnât threaten him, he couldnât help but offer a reminder.
Charlotte chuckled lightly.
She raised her glass toward Joe. âDonât worry, I can distinguish even this.â
The two of them sat quietly under the moonlight. Even though they hadnât spoken a word, it seemed like they could read a thousand words in each otherâs eyes.
At that moment, Trevor approached once again, holding two bottles of red wine in his hand.
Joeâs sharp eyes recognized them as the two best bottles of wine in the entire resortâs cellar.
Trevor had a good eye for choosing.
âToday, since everyone is in such a good mood, why donât we just enjoy both of these bottles of wine?â
In a swift motion, Trevor handed the two bottles to the waiter before Joe could object.
The waiter instinctively glanced at Joe, saw him nod, and then left with the wine.
In no time, the two bottles of red wine were brought in decanters, and each took a glass. They began to talk about the various interesting events that had happened over the past year.
Even though Charlotte couldnât recall these memories as they described them, it felt like she had experienced them firsthand. Unknowingly, she had drunk a lot of red wine with them.
Her face flushed, and she slumped onto Joeâs back, her eyes gently closed. It was unclear if she had fallen asleep or not.
âWho would have thought that losing her memory would also weaken her alcohol tolerance?â
Lena, the only one present who didnât drink, taunted Charlotteâs alcohol consumption.
Joe carefully lifted her onto his back. He looked at the others and said, âYou all know this place well, so no need for introductions. Sheâs quite drunk now, so Iâll take her backâ¦â
Before he could finish his sentence, Trevor chuckled, âWho doesnât know that you wonât be returning once you leave? Why bother with such grandiose words?â
