In the bathroom, there were no surveillance cameras. At this point, it seemed
Helin had suffered serious injuries while Charlotte was unharmed.
Joe wanted to say more, but Charlotte grabbed his hand.
âSince Mr. Wallace has apologized voluntarily, we wonât hold Miss Wallace
accountable any longer,â Charlotte said proactively.
Marcusâs originally unpleasant expression softened somewhat, but Helin, who
seemed like she wanted to say something, was fiercely glared at by Mrs. Wallace
and dared not speak again.
Helin could only stare resentfully at Charlotte. If resentment could kill, Charlotte
would have been killed many times over by now.
The originally well-planned engagement party had turned into this awkward
situation, leaving everyone feeling uncomfortable. Before long, they all made
excuses and left one by one.
On the way back, Joe furrowed his brow and looked at Charlotte. âWhy did you
let her go?â
Helinâs repeated pestering had long exhausted his patience. He had originally
intended to resolve this matter once and for all in front of everyone.
Charlotte shook her head. âI donât pity Helin. I pity her parents.â
Regardless of the reasons, the fact that Marcus, at his age, publicly apologized
to them was solely for the actions of his daughterâ¦
Charlotte was indeed feeling somewhat compassionate.
Joe shook his head. âAlthough Marcus seemed sincere, it might not just be for
Helin.â
But since they had already made their decision, there was no need to dwell on it
further.
Originally, they thought this matter had come to an end, but little did they know that two days later, they would face another development.
Eleanor unexpectedly came to apologize in person.
When Joe and Charlotte saw Eleanor, they were both very surprised.
Eleanorâs face carried a hint of awkwardness. âI have terminated my engagement
with Helin.â
Though they didnât know Eleanorâs purpose for coming, Charlotte was still very
astonished to hear this news.
Eleanor and Helinâs engagement had been hasty from the start, and after what
happened at the engagement party, it was unexpected that they would swiftly
break off the engagement.
âIs it because of us?â Charlotte asked with a furrowed brow.
Eleanor quickly shook his head. âNot really. We both knew back then that there
were no feelings between us, but we couldnât keep thinking about someone else.
Especially since she deliberately caused a scene at the engagement banquet, it
was clear she hadnât given up.â
Although the Dryden family had initially wanted to use this marriage to tie
themselves to the Wallace family, they didnât want Eleanorâs marriage to turn into
a tragedy.
After discussing it at length following the engagement party, they went to the
Wallace family the next day with their decision to dissolve the engagement.
Marcus had initially considered saying a few words to try and persuade them, but
when he thought about Helinâs behavior, he didnât say anything after all.
Now that the engagement was dissolved, the two families might still be able to
continue their cooperation. If Helin were to do something irreparableâ¦
It wouldnât be a marriage alliance but a blood feud.
Eleanor had come primarily to explain to Charlotte and Joe that they truly did not
know about what had happened that day.
After briefly recounting the situation, Eleanor hastily left.
âThe Dryden family dissolving the engagement now is a wise move,â Joe
commented with a sigh after hearing it, offering no further opinions.
Charlotteâs treatment was ongoing.
On this day, after completing her treatment as usual, she stayed behind to bake a
cake with Evelina.
Evelina took a bite and gave Charlotte a thumbs-up.
âYour skills are not much different from those of professionals,â Evelina said with
a smile.
Charlotte shook her head. âYouâre wearing too thick of a filter when it comes to
me.â
She knew her baking skills were far from being considered expert.
Just then, there was a sudden knock at the door.
