Charlotte stood frozen in place as a flood of memories rushed into her mind.
Her eyes began to well up with tears.
Joe, seeing her reaction, was taken aback and quickly stepped forward to
embrace her. âWhatâs wrong with you?â he asked.
Charlotte clung tightly to Joeâs shirt, her voice trembling as she whispered,
âHow could I forget them?â
The recent experience with the pregnant woman triggered Charlotteâs
subconscious recollection of her own pregnancy and the entire process of
giving birth.
Along with those memories came the vivid recollection of giving birth to Ben
and Anna, their first moments of skin-to-skin contact.
âHow could I forget them? They must have been so hurt,â Charlotte sobbed
softly.
Joe felt a pang of sadness in his heart. His slender fingers paused in the air for a moment before gently caressing Charlotteâs head.
âThey will surely understand; they wonât blame you,â Joe comforted in a
gentle tone.
Having just witnessed the pregnant womanâs state before giving birth, Joe
now had a clearer understanding of Charlotteâs panic and helplessness at that
time.
After the emotional outburst, Charlotte stood up, somewhat embarrassed,
looking at the water stains on Joeâs chest.
Joe didnât mind at all; he held Charlotteâs hand and said, âLetâs go home.â
Home?
Charlotte blinked in surprise. For the two of them, Halcyonland was far from being called home. But somehow, at some point, wherever Joe was could be
called home.
She smiled gently. âOkay, letâs go home.â
The two of them made their way back to the villa area, and Dr. Garie breathed
a sigh of relief when he saw them.
âI thought you guys had been abducted by aliens, taking this long to return,â
Dr. Garieâs gaze fell on the bloodstains on Charlotteâs skirt.
His expression changed slightly as he looked at Charlotte with concern, âAre
you injured?â
Charlotte finally noticed the bloodstains on her skirt and quickly shook her
head, âNo, no, itâs not my blood.â
Charlotte informed Dr. Garie about the recent events and mentioned her
partial recovery of memories.
Dr. Garie was momentarily surprised when he heard this, then felt a mixture
of irritation and amusement. âI canât figure out if Miss Wallace is good or bad.
Even though she has been pestering you both, itâs undeniable that every time
Mrs. Smith regains her memory, itâs somehow related to her.â
Joe and Charlotte exchanged a glance, and Dr. Garieâs statement didnât seem
entirely unfounded.
Thinking about what he had said in front of Marcus earlier, Joe suddenly felt a
subtle sense of regret.
If he had let Helin provoke Charlotte a bit more, her memories might have
been restored much earlier.
After conducting a thorough examination and confirming that this recovery
period had not adversely affected her, Dr. Garie joked with Charlotte, âMaybe
you should invite Miss Wallace over a couple more times. I have a feeling
sheâs more effective than any treatment method.â
Considering everything that had happened today, Charlotte chuckled
helplessly. âI think Miss Wallace probably doesnât want to see us.â
However, Charlotte couldnât have imagined that Miss Wallace, she thought
they had no further connection, would send them an invitation five days later.
