Chapter 591 Like a Prey Surrounded by a Pack of Wolves
âLooks like your previous experience wasnât enough to teach you a lesson,â remarked Joe in a subdued tone.
Sandraâs face stiffened, and her forehead seemed to throb with a dull pain.
She swirled the wine in her glass and lowered her gaze, saying, âThereâs no need for such hostility between us. Perhaps
we can find a way to cooperate and both benefit.â
âWith you?â Joe scoffed, bypassing her and moving to leave.
But Sandra suddenly lowered her voice, âCharlotte is Congreveâs daughter, right?â
Joe halted in his tracks.
Sandra walked up to him, her tone genuinely sincere, âAs a collateral member, her appearance means weâre completely
sidelined. Who can tolerate that? I admit, I did try to go after her before. If she fell from grace, the Faulkner Family
wouldnât accept her as an heir with a tarnished reputation, even if sheâs Congreveâs biological daughter.â
Her gaze roamed over Joeâs form, regretfully continuing, âBut your presence made me realize the impossibility of that
approach.â
She reached out to touch his shoulder, but Joe evaded her touch.
Sandra smiled faintly, âSince I canât become your enemy, perhaps I can be your friend?â
âDo you think she and I lack friends?â Joe retorted sarcastically. âBy now, if you return to Albania, you might still be able to
hold onto everything you have.â
Sandraâs face paled.
âDo you know how many people in the Faulkner Family are keeping a close eye on Charlotte? Iâm the first, and I wonât be
the last,â Sandra persisted. âSince weâre destined to face this, why not find someone who can help you?â
Enter titleâ¦
Joe interrupted her with an indifferent tone, âDo you think your subpar methods are enough?â
Sandra clenched her glass tightly and took a deep breath, âAre you sure you want Charlotte to have one more enemy
instead of a friend? Even in the face of a massive organization like the Faulkner Family?â
Joe remained silent, his lips pressed together.
Seeing his reaction, Sandra quickly took a glass of wine from a passing waiter and placed it in Joeâs hand, âI can
cooperate with you as long as you provide the corresponding rewards. Mutual benefits, itâs a win-win situation for you.â
Joe looked at the wine in his hand but didnât speak.
Sandra glanced around and called over a waiter in the corner, âBring a new bottle of red wine and two wine glasses.â
She turned to Joe, âShall we go over there?â
She pointed to a small round table near the dessert table, quiet yet still within the sight of others.
Joe nodded in agreement.
The waiter quickly brought an unopened bottle of red wine, opened it in front of Joe, and poured it into the glasses.
Sandra raised her glass, âAs a gesture of goodwill, I can tell you that there are a total of five branches in the Faulkner
Family. Except for the three branches that have never been involved in power struggles, each branch knows about
Charlotteâs existence. I⦠Iâm just the one they threw out as a test.â
Presently, Charlotte was like prey surrounded by a pack of wolves. Once someone successfully bit her, countless hungry
wolves would swarm in and tear her to pieces.
âWhat about Huxley?â Joe took a big sip of red wine, his voice low.
Seeing him swallow the wine, Sandraâs smile brightened a few degrees. âHuxley⦠heâs been constantly hindered by the
collateral branches all these years, just a name without much substance. Two months ago, he had a big fight with the third
uncle from the collateral branch, and since then, heâs disappeared without a trace. Who knows where heâs gone? I would
say the one who resents Charlotte the most is probably Huxley.â
Sandra emptied her glass of wine and soon had a flush on her face.
