Gideon followed her gaze and comforted her, saying, âWhat they truly lack isnât these things, but you as their daughter-in-law.â
Lena glanced at him annoyedly and said, âIf you had made things clear from the start, maybe I could have prepared better.â
But saying this now was meaningless. Lena simply gave up, leaving all the problems for Gideon to handle.
Gideon gladly accepted this. âJust stay behind me. Iâll take care of everything. Of course, they will treat you totally differently.â
The car stopped in front of a villa, and seeing the exquisite property, Lena let out a slight sigh of relief.
She was glad that Gideon hadnât taken her to some manor. Otherwise, she would have been really nervous.
After parking the car in the garage, Gideon led Lena through the main entrance.
Just then, Jeffrey opened the door and said upon seeing Gideon, âIâm not the one who leaked the information. Thereâs a rightful one to the blame, so donât trouble me about it.â
After saying that, Jeffreyâs gaze fell on Lena, who was following Gideon, and he smiled, âOh! So, you brought your lifesaver? It looks like you are safe now.â
Gideon glanced at him and continued walking in with Lena.
Just as they entered the hall, a glass was hurled violently, shattering into pieces, accompanied by a furious shout. âYou still have the nerve to come back!â
Lena looked in the direction of the voice and saw an elderly man with gray hair sitting on the couch.
Next to him sat a middle-aged man and woman with serious expressions, who also looked over with displeasure.
âYouâ¦â
Upon seeing Lena behind Gideon, the old man had to forcefully swallow his curses, instead coughing violently.
This must be Gideonâs grandfather, Mervyn McKinney.
âGrandpa, are you alright?â Gideon asked with concern as he stepped forward, only to be pushed away impatiently by Mervyn. âGet away from me!â
Gideon was shoved aside, and just as Lena was preparing to step back with him, Mervyn suddenly gave her a beaming smile and gestured for her to come closer.
Lena reluctantly approached him.
She had thought that even if Mervyn wasnât going to scold her outright, he would at least make some sarcastic comments. But to her surprise, Mervyn was quite gentle to her. âSo, youâre that bratâs girlfriend, huh? Although heâs a bastard, he does have good taste in finding a girlfriend.â
âGrandpa!â Gideon spoke out helplessly to intervene, but Mervyn didnât even spare him a glance, instead taking out a card and handing it to Lena. âThis is a little gift for our first meeting. Just take it.â
Lena had not expected Mervyn to be so straightforward in giving her gifts, and she quickly shook her head, saying, âYou donât have to give me anythingâ¦â
However, Mervyn completely ignored her refusal and glanced at Gideonâs parents beside him as if seeking their support.
Owen and Lauren did not disappoint him. Each took out a bank card and placed it in front of Lena, saying, âYou are a good kid. Just take them. No need to be too polite with us.â
Lauren even slipped the bracelet off her wrist and directly put it onto Lenaâs wrist.
There was no trace of her earlier seriousness on her face. She had completely transformed into a kind mother, tenderly gazing at Lena.
