The night wind chilled Lena, who tightened her coat and watched the updates on the Uber.
She suddenly regretted not leaving with Rachel. But nowâ¦
As she focused on her phone, an urgent sound of footsteps came from behind. Lena, sensing danger, swiftly moved aside.
A vivid red liquid with a strong scent of blood was splattered all around. Lenaâs legs were also splattered.
If she hadnât moved in timeâ¦
In shock, Lena looked back and saw a figure with a paint can, a black mask, and a duckbill cap rushing towards her.
âWho are you?â Lena took two steps back, pretending to remain composed as she faced the person.
âJust a few days, and youâve already forgotten me?â The person, with a sinister smile, removed the mask, causing Lenaâs heart to skip a beat. It was Debra.
Lena quickly glanced back but found that the security guards in the company lobby had gone upstairs for inspection, and the main entrance was tightly locked.
âYouâve gone mad! Thereâs no need to escalate our conflicts.â Lena spoke, glancing around the roadside, praying for a passerby to help her.
But unfortunately, no one was around.
Debra sneered, âThanks to you, not only did I lose my job, but I also have a criminal record! Since I canât live, letâs die together!â
With these words, she produced a dagger from somewhere and viciously stabbed Lena! At that moment, a swift figure appeared behind her, kicking her to the ground. âAre you okay?â Gideon breathed a sigh of relief after assessing Lenaâs condition and ensuring she only had a disheveled appearance. Lena, still in shock, asked, âWhy are you here?â
âI figured you hadnât read my messages after receiving no reply from you, so I rushed over to pick you up,â Gideon replied, feeling relieved that he had made that decision. The consequences could have been dire otherwise.
Lena, thinking about what just happened, could not help but want to cry.
Gideon shielded her and stared warily at the woman on the ground. âDebra Hayes?â
Seeing Gideon, Debra knew she had no chance to escape. She brandished the dagger fiercely at both of them. âLet me go, or weâll die together!â
Lenaâs expression immediately changed.
However, Gideon couldnât afford to let the threat go free. He suddenly rushed forward, engaging in a struggle with Debra.
Lenaâs heart instantly raced. She knew she should maintain a safe distance to help Gideon, but she was still worried.
After she quickly distanced herself from them, she promptly called the police.
Fortunately, Gideon swiftly seized the dagger from Debra and subdued her.
The police arrived promptly, learning Lena was pregnant. They advised her to go home and rest as long as she would take her statement at the station the next day.
After this incident, Lena felt both exhausted and hungry.
Sensing her condition, Gideon suggested. âLetâs grab a meal.â
Although Lena had no appetite, thinking of the child in her belly, she still agreed.
As they sat in the car, Lena replayed the scene when Gideon arrived in her mind.
She silently made a decision in her heart.
