Two Weeks Later
Two weeks after my heat, Chadâs arm was around my waist as we quietly watched the baby shark hatching from its egg in the tank. The morning started out quiet, with me drinking coffee and watching videos on my phone until Chad yelled out that the egg was hatching.
âLook,â said Chad.
The room was dimly lit, casting a serene glow over the tank. The only sound was the soft hum of the filtration system and the occasional bubble rising to the surface. We were completely absorbed in this moment, a moment we had been waiting for days.
I glanced at Chad, his eyes reflecting the same excitement and wonder as mine.
And then, it happened.
A tiny crack appeared on the surface of the egg, barely noticeable at first but enough to send a surge of excitement coursing through me.
We leaned in closer, my heart racing with the tiny life about to emerge.
As we watched, holding our breath, the crack widened, revealing a glimpse of the creature inside. My hand tightened around Chadâs, our fingers interlocking from shared excitement.
âAww, oh my god,â I exclaimed.
Minutes stretched into eternity as we witnessed the miracle unfolding before our very eyes. And then, with a sudden burst of movement, the baby shark emerged from its shell, a tiny, wriggling bundle of life. Its body was sleek, and its skin was a silver-gray adorned with faint patterns.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I watched the newborn shark explore its new world. Beside me, Chad squeezed my hand, his own eyes shining with emotion.
âLook at him go,â said Chad.
âIsnât he the most adorable little thing?â I said. We couldnât take our eyes off the little shark swimming inside the neon tank.
âWhat do you want to name him?â asked Chad.
âI love the color of his fin,â I said. âFin?â
âHow about Finley?â he suggested, and I immediately agreed.
It was such a perfect name for my very first pet.
âI love it,â I said, smiling. I spun around towards Chad and we kissed on the lips to the sounds of the baby shark splashing in the tank. âIâm going to come back later to check on our pet, but I need to do something quick.â
âLike what, babe?â asked Chad. âWeâre all alone. Letâs do some freaky things before everyone gets back.â
It was only him and I alone in the house right now.
The rest of the pack was working, but there was always one alpha with me for the day. They would be here in an hour, and I had to do this one task before they got back.
âI just need to use the bathroom quick,â I said. âAnd I want to freshen up a bit before we do anything.â
âYou know how I love it when youâre not squeaky clean,â he said, his hand wandering down between my legs. The throbbing in my pussy increased, but I had to hold out.
âDonât worry,â I said, gently pulling his hand away before we got carried away. âIâll be right back.â
I quickly hurried out of his room, letting him think that I felt self-conscious.
I walked into the main bedroom down the hallway which was in the middle of all the alphasâ rooms.
Towards the left side of the room, an expansive king-sized bed dominated the space, its grandiose headboard upholstered in beautiful velvet. It was covered in a rich navy blue comforter that added depth and sophistication to the room. The alphas worked very hard to make sure I was comfortable in their mansion.
Opposite the bed, there was a floor-to-ceiling window that bathed the room in natural light during the day, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Luxurious drapes in a shimmering silk fabric were open to showcase the breathtaking vista beyond.
In the corner, a cozy area with a circle of lime green cushions meant for an omega beckoned to me constantly. The soft circular mattress in the middle was where I took naps.
Mostly, Iâd been sleeping or having sex with my new alphas a lot. I hadnât been working at all, and something within me felt weird and guilty.
I wanted to do something with my life.
I walked into the connecting bathroom and opened the drawer. There it was. The pregnancy test sat there untouched and still in its box after I ordered it online. I wanted to check, especially after having a full omega heat cycle and getting knotted by these virile alphas.
Picking up the test, I unwrapped it from the box with trembling fingers. It would be my first time taking this test. A whirlwind of emotions churned inside me. I glanced at myself in the mirror, meeting my gaze with a mixture of nervous excitement and fear.
I wouldnât know what to do with myself if I was pregnant. Would I just be trapped with the alpha pack without a career, doomed to keep producing babies for them?
After taking the test, I sat on the edge of the bathtub as I waited for the results to kick in. I checked the timer on my phone and quickly turned it off before it beeped or Chad would ask what was going on.
My hand was shaking as I picked up the test. My eyes widened, and I felt my heart racing as I stared at the two lines indicating that I was pregnant.
We didnât use protection at all during my heat and even before my heat. A nervous bubble of excitement rose within me, but it was mixed in with dread. I couldnât imagine having a child and never imagined I would have one without a job or security. My aunt always told me that anything could happen, even after finding a partner, and to make sure I was ready at a momentâs notice if I was thrown out.
Worry went through me now, remembering her words. Would the alphas get scared of commitment and break up with me now that my heat was over?
I stared at the home test, wondering if it was accurate at all. Maybe I should check with a real doctor first before I went into full-blown panic mode.
âPlease wait in the car,â I told Chad, and he started to get impatient with me through all my secrecy. I had asked him for a ride so I could see my family doctor, but he was insistent on finding out what was wrong with me.
âI need to know whatâs going on,â said Chad. âYouâre my omega. Or did you forget?â
âOkay, fine, Iâll tell you,â I said. âI know you all think itâs silly, but Iâm going to try getting a prescription for birth control.â
He leaned back against the car with his arms crossed and shook his head.
âYou donât need that,â he said. âI want to see you rounded with my child.â
âPlease, Chad.â
âFine, Iâll stay in the waiting room. I donât think I can stand it if you ask for such horrible medicines in front of me.â
âOkay,â I said, relieved that he believed me, as we both walked into the urgent care clinic.
After I checked in, I sat with him for a little while in the waiting room, holding hands. Chad never hid his feelings from me, making his love known in various romantic gestures.
âBreanna,â the nurse called out.
In the office, I waited for the doctor after the nurse took my blood and vitals. My family doctor wasnât in today, so Iâd be seeing a new doctor. I was nervous of what the answer would be and if it was for sure that I was pregnant.
A knock sounded on the door.
âCome in,â I said, and a short older woman wearing a doctorâs coat walked into the room. Her black hair was tied into a ponytail, and she looked strict as she held a clipboard.
âHello, Breanna,â she said. âIâm Dr. Cary Smith.â
âHi, Dr. Smith,â I said, shaking her hand as she sat on the rolling chair across from me.
âIâm sure youâve been anxiously waiting,â she said with a smile. âCongratulationsâ¦youâre pregnant.â
âOh,â I said, my heart pumping harder. It was real. âAre you sure?â
âOf course, Iâm sure,â she said. âThe blood test doesnât take too long to confirm.â
I didnât know whether to feel happy or sad, so I sat there shocked for a full minute. Then I laid a hand on my belly, wondering about the life within.
The doctor took an ultrasound, and I walked away from the appointment, tucking the envelope of the sonogram into my purse before meeting up with Chad.
âHow did the appointment go?â he asked.
âIt was fine,â I said. âTheyâll let us know when to pick up the birth control.â
âGood,â he said with a grin. âLetâs go home then.â
I managed to smile so he wasnât suspicious of me as we walked to the car. My mind raced with every step towards the car because I still couldnât believe the news I was told.
I was going to be a mother in nine months.
âWhatâs wrong, darling?â asked Zaff at the dinner table.
I was constantly fidgeting and moving around the vegetables on my plate with my fork. I didnât realize I had zoned off into my thoughts until Zaff snapped me out of it.
âNothing,â I said quickly. I looked at my plate, suddenly not feeling hungry anymore.
âSomething is clearly bothering her,â said Chad. âAll day, she was being like this, and I swear to god I didnât do anything to her.â
âOh no,â said Ruston, and now all eyes were on me. âAre you okay, Bree?â
Breathing hard, I shot up from the chair, and I couldnât stop the tears from rolling down my eyes. They would all leave me soon, and I would be alone in the end.
Pregnant and alone.
âI donât want to talk about it,â I snapped. âI just need rest, thatâs all.â
They stared at me in shock as I picked up my plate to take it to the kitchen, but I dropped it because my hands were trembling so much.
I got down on my knees to clean the mess.
âBree, itâs okay,â Zaff said in a gentle voice. He dropped to his knees before me, placing a calm hand over my shaking ones. âIâll have someone clean this up. Youâre the lady of our home now.â
I bit my lip and nodded before getting up. I still wasnât used to being treated like this. Like a gentle object that could get broken and handled with care by the alphas.
âIâm going to get some rest,â I said and quickly walked away before any of them could follow me. I needed to get to my room and think without the scent of the alphas around me.
That night, I tried to sleep in my huge bed alone after ignoring their gentle knocking on the door. I felt sad as I cried into my pillow, knowing that they were worried about me.
I couldnât get attached to them more than I already have.
My heart shattered at the thought of never seeing them again, but I had to do this for my baby. I had nine months to get my career back on track, and I would have to get a home ready as a single mother.
