Chapter 6: chapter 6

Is Rei hiding something from me?"Why was he here?" I ask as soon as I reach him. He hurries me inside and hands me a towel instead of answering my question. "Dry yourself... You'll catch a cold" he says. Worried. "I'll brew a coffee for you."I go to my room, making a mental note to ask him again once I change my clothes. I can't think of a reason why Rodas should be here unless it is related to me. They couldn't have already known each other right? The pieces don't fit. Rodas is a man who definitely doesn't do normal work. He is someone who has a whole bunch of shady-looking men by his side. The scars on his face and body indicate that he often plays with weapons.On the other hand, Rei is someone who looks like he wouldn't even hurt a fly. He is so kind and a gentleman. So, is it me?Heck. What if I saw something I shouldn't have before I lost my memory, so he is here to check if I gain my memories back? What if he is going to kill me the moment I remember? I slap myself. I should stop overthinking. I'm going crazy at this point.I'm finished drying my hair when I hear a knock on the door. Rei opens the door slightly and looks inside."Are you done?" He asks.I nod and put the hairdryer down before following him to the kitchen. He hands me the cup of coffee and jumps to sit on the kitchen island. He takes a bite of an Apple. I go to sit on the chair, ready to ask him questions. "So, are you gonna tell me or not?" He takes another bite."What?" So, we are acting dumb right now?"Rodas," I say. He threw the apple into the dustbin before tilting his head toward the refrigerator. I frown and get up to open it. My eyes widen, the refrigerator is stuffed with all sorts of fruits, juices and foods. I give Rei a confusing look."He just wanted to make sure that you're doing fine.""Why would he want to make sure I'm doing fine?"Rei comes down and closes the refrigerator door before grabbing my shoulder from behind and slightly pushing me to sit down."Since he saved you... Maybe. Look, you don't have to give too much attention to this. I would rather have you stay away from him!" He is right though but it's my freaking heart that pounds whenever he is around. It's my stupid head that thinks about him."So, how was your bicycle ride?" "Refreshing" I answer him, taking a sip from the coffee. "I think I want to work... I don't want to spend all alone in the house anymore" Rei's expression changes showing that he doesn't like the idea of it. "I will stay home then... Give you company," he suggests. Suddenly I feel angry. I don't understand why he wouldn't want me to be out of the house. He is acting all suspicious."Can you tell me the reason you don't want me out of this house?" I demand."You've not recovered yet... I don't think its a good idea-""I'm fine, Rei. I'll get sick instead if I have to spend all the time inside the house. I want to do something that will keep me busy. Please Rei!" He sighs and then takes the cup away from my hand."Where do you want to work?" He asks.My face brightens."Cafe... Or library...anywhere that keeps me busy," I tell him.He washes the cup and neatly put it back in its place before turning around to smile at me."I'll look into it" I get up and hug him tightly. "Thank you, Rei... you're the best" -----------I've started working in a library for three days now. Honestly, it helps to keep me away from weird thoughts. I love interacting with people and finding books for them. The owner is friendly and so are the other workers. Today is my turn to close the library.  Usually, the library closes at 6 pm, since it is a day library but today it is already past 7 pm. So, I'm trying to finish shelving the books as fast as I can. I'm not used to this eerie silence. I hope Rei also gets here quickly. He said he was coming to get me.As I'm putting the last book into its place, I hear heavy footsteps outside. Before I can react, the door bursts open and a group of three men in black suits walks in. I gulp. Are they Rodas's man?  I thought but something tells me that they are not. "Sorry, we are closed," I say, trying to sound not scared.The men don't say anything, instead, they storm toward me and grab my arms and pull me toward the exit. I feel a surge of panic and fear wash over me. I try to pull away but they are so strong, it's impossible. One of them covers my mouth with a piece of cloth, too tight that I feel like my mouth would rip open. I look around, hoping to catch someone's attention but no one's around. This neighbourhood has been always a quiet place. The only sound I can hear is their heavy footsteps and my own helpless breaths. They push me inside the backseat of a black SUV parked in the street. The car starts speeding away from the library which lights are still on. A sense of dread settles in my stomach. I don't know what I've done wrong or if I've somehow put myself in danger without realizing it. Am I going to be killed?My thoughts are interrupted by the sound of a cell phone ringing. The man sitting beside me answer. I stay as quiet as I can, scared that they might do something if I make a sound. "It's done... We have the girl," the man says, his voice cold and emotionless. My heart sank as I realised that this is not a random kidnapping but they have particularly come to find me. They must know everything about me. My mind goes back to that black car I saw a week ago. That must not have been random either. Did Rei already know? I wonder if this is the real reason he didn't want me out of the house.
