I was glad I had a break from my classes during lunch.
While I walked through the hallways, the library was hard to find, so I looked around to ask someone.
I saw a janitor ahead who was busy mopping the floors.
"Excuse me!" I half yelled.
He stopped what he was doing and looked up at me while he smiled.
"Hello." He said.
"Hi. Did you know where the library was?" I replied.
"Uh, yeah, it's down this way. You turn on the first right and keep walking straight down, and it's there." He nodded his head.
"Thank you." I smiled, and he did the same.
"No problem." He then continued to do his job.
I walked past him and headed towards the library, using the direction that he gave me.
While I walked down the hall, I saw Hannah walking toward the library.
I quickly caught up to her and tapped her shoulders. She jumped a bit since she was lost in her thoughts.
"Hey." I smiled at her.
"Hey, you almost scared the shit out of me." She placed her hand on her chest. I playfully rolled my eyes.
"Did you eat already?" She asked.
"No, not yet, but I packed up my lunch," I said, "Do you eat at the school cafeteria?"
"Not really. I hate being in loud places, so I go to the library." She said, and I nodded in understanding.
Once I opened the door, I saw the librarian, Mrs. Pebbles, sitting beside her desk.
I knew her name since she had a nameplate on her desk.
Hannah and I walked towards an empty table in the back.
After we settled down, she spoke up.
"How do you like it so far?" She asked.
"It's okay. I failed some class assignments.
"That sucks."
"Yeah." I sighed.
"Hey, to cheer you up, why don't we go to the football game next Friday?" She smiled.
"I'm not much of a sports person."
"Have you ever gone to a game?" She asked.
"No."
"You can't say you don't like something if you never tried it. I'm sure you would have a good time."
"Fine, but I'm being antisocial."
"Hey, that's who I am, and there's nothing wrong with that."
"Hey, I agree."
Suddenly, I looked over her shoulder and saw an extremely hot guy who walked inside the library.
He winked at me when he noticed that I was checking him out.
I blushed and looked away.
"Who's that?" I asked.
"Who's who?!" She half yelled while she turned around and made it evident that I was talking about him.
I inwardly face-palmed myself. When he heard Hannah, he looked towards us and smirked.
He then got up and walked towards us.
Hannah gasped.
"He's the star quarterback and bad news." She whispered.
"Bad news? I would say that I'm more of a chill person." He chuckled a little.
"Yeah, that too." She said awkwardly.
"What's your name?" He placed his hands on the table while he leaned forward a little.
He had arched solid brows and eyelashes so thick it could be illegal.
And then his eyes were deep and catastrophic, a vivid baby blue as a significant body of water that softly melted into a milky green.
This close, I could see the flecks of silver in his eyes.
He had distinct cheekbones and an angular jaw, and his tan skin made him look handsome, like a sexy Greek god.
"Hannah." She said.
"Not you and it's nice knowing your name, but I meant your friend." He looked at her.
"I know. I was recording my voicemail." She said, looking down at her phone. He nodded since he didn't believe her and looked at me.
"Um, I'm Katherine."
"Do you want to hang out sometimes?" He asked.
"Like go to the movies and stuff?"
"Do you want to do other things?" He smirked.
"Oh no, um, hanging out is fine," I said awkwardly.
"You're cute when you blush." He pinched my cheeks. I then smacked his hand away.
"And feisty, me like."
"Do you say this to all the girls you talk to?"
"No, you're special."
"Your pickup lines are lame, but what's your name?" I chuckled a bit.
"Adam and I should feel offended, but I don't." He replied.
"Well, there's always room for practice."
"I don't need practice." He winked at me.
"Does everything have to be a sex reference?" I rolled my eyes.
"I'm a perverted person who has a filthy mind."
"I bet you do," I replied, and he laughed.
Suddenly, Mrs. Pebbles tapped his shoulders. He quickly looked up and saw Mrs. Pebbles glaring down at him.
"Yes." He said, annoyed.
"If you continue to disrupt the peace, I will ask you to leave." She said curtly.
"What? I wasn't even that loud. There are people over there having sex."
She gasped and quickly walked towards the area that Adam pointed out.
"Were you joking?" I asked.
"No, kids do fuck in the library."
"Oh," I replied, nothing else to say after that.
No wonder it smelled musty, I thought.
