Sherry sat on the couch to consider Danielâs suggestion for quite some time. She looked down the ground and sat still.
Daniel was standing in front of her. He thought Sherry fell asleep at some point.
Daniel said carefully, âMaybe...you can try putting that bat down. Itâs quite scary.â
Sherry held onto the bat even tighter after hearing Danielâs suggestion.
Daniel cleared his throat and took a step back.
After a while, Sherry asked, âThe enemy you were saying. Are you talking about Charles?â
Daniel nodded.
Sherry questioned, âPhoebe and you...â
Daniel explained, âIt was just a show. I have my reason to get close to her. She knew it, and she was using me as well.â
Sherry asked after a while, âA show... Just like what weâre doing?â
âItâs not the same thing,â Daniel said, âWe are doing this for justice. Itâs different.â
Sherry replied, âI see.â
After a few minutes, Daniel asked, âSo, what do you think about my suggestion?â
Sherry wanted to confirm with Daniel, âAre you sure that they wonât harm Stella if I agreed to put on an act with you?â
âAt least they couldnât find a reason from me to threaten her. Iâll think of something if they try to find a reason from other aspects.â
Sherry frowned, âWho...are you? No, I meant, why did you come here?â
Daniel smiled, âIâll tell you after our âactâ.â
...
When Stella got back to the Steward manor, she felt like the manor was covering in a depressing aura. All the maids avoided her, just like how they treated her when she first arrived in the manor.
When Stella walked into the living room, a maid came over, âMs. Radomil, Mr. Steward asked for you in his study room.â
The maid quickly left Stella after she finished her sentence. She didnât even wait for Stella to answer.
Stella stood still for a few seconds, then headed to Charlesâ study room.
Stella knocked on the door and asked, âMr. Steward, is there anything I can help you with?â
Charles raised his head from the pile of documents in front of him, âSit.â
Stella pouted and sat in front of Charles.
Charles pushed a document to Stella. Stella took a glance and saw it was a Bill of Indictment accusing Phoebe.
Stella smiled, âThis is?â
Charles didnât answer her question, but instead, he said, âI knew you had conflicts with Phoebe because of Clarence, but no matter what, itâs an internal matter between the Steward family. You shouldnât make it a big deal.â
Stella said, âI donât understand what youâre saying, Mr. Steward. I wasnât the one who got accused in that Bill of Indictment. What does it have to do with me?â
âYou are the reason why these started. You are going to clarify that the accusations in the Bill of Indictment are false. That should make the bill of indictment a useless piece of paper.â
Stella now knew what Charles wanted. In fact, it was easy for Charles to handle a person like Bernice. However, Stella was involved in the case.
Charles knew many people were looking at Stella and him. He didnât dare to take the risk. That was why Charles wanted Stella to tell the people that Berniceâs accusations were false.
As soon as Stella denied the accusations, it meant Bernice was lying. Then, Charles was going to do his tricks and made Bernice a liar who tried to blackmail them.
Well, that was a pretty good plan.
Stella said, âIâve asked you before, Mr. Steward. Do you really think everything Ms. Steward did is exposable to the public? I always thought I am a victim in the case. Iâve never had the apologies I was supposed to have. So, why should I clarify for you?â
Charles told Stella, âEverything you said is resolvable in private. You have the responsibility to protect the reputation of the Steward family since youâre one of us now.â
âDonât flatter me, Mr. Steward. I stayed in the Steward manor, but Iâve never enjoyed any perks as a Steward. Why should I carry the responsibility then?â
Stella was hard to convince. Charles squinted his eyes, and his expression became serious.
After a while, Charles said, âTell me what you want.â
Stella chuckled, âYouâre so generous, Mr. Steward.â
Stella took out the Equity Transfer Agreement she brought with her all the time and put it in front of Charles.
Charles quickly told Stella, âThis is what I promised you. If this is what you wanted, I will sign these right away.â
âNo,â Stella said, âI wanted to let you know that I would rather have something practical than holding shares of the Steward Group.â
Charles frowned. He had a bad feeling about what Stella will say, âWhat do you want then?â
Stella pointed out a few locations, âI want these lands.â
Charles raised his voice, âThatâs impossible.â
All the lands Stella wanted was precious and expensive. Some of the lands were in the developing process by the Steward Group. If he gave the lands to Stella, it indicated that Stella will be the person that had the most say and rights in the projects.
Stella smiled, âItâs fine if you donât agree with my conditions. Iâm only telling you what I wanted. Iâve done my calculation. All these lands were only one-third of the Steward Groupâs assets. I think I deserve those.â
âDonât talk big. You wonât know how to use the lands if I give it to you. You are going to ruin the Steward Group in the long run.â
âDonât worry, Mr. Steward. I know I didnât know anything about running a business. All I wanted was a few pieces of land. I wonât involve myself in any of the projects. All I care about was the money.â
Charles was dead silent after hearing what Stella said.
What Stella offered was to cash out the share. If all she wanted was the share, Charles knew how to keep Stella at bay, but the lands she wanted was something so solid that once she got them, theyâll be under her name. How could Charles agree to such a condition?
Stella wasnât in a hurry either. She slowly said, âWell, Iâll leave you here to consider my suggestion. Donât rush. Take your time.â
The person who was in a hurry was the person who got accused.
Stella stood up and left the study room once she finished what she had to say.
Charles looked even sulkier when he looked at the Equity Transfer Agreement in front of him.
When Stella was about to go into her room, Phoebeâs voice rose behind her.
Stella turned around, âWhatâs the matter, Ms. Steward?â
Phoebe said coldly, âYouâre the one who did this, arenât you?â
Stella smiled after hearing what Phoebe said, âIf it helps to make you feel better, Iâm fine with it. But...â
âWhat?â
