Chapter NinetyâSeven
Ryley
As soon as Channing was officially a member of the Orion pack, there was a knock on my office door. I sighed knowing it was Isaac. I never wanted to see him again. Blake moved to open the door, and it was indeed Isaac.
âMr. Miller, what can I do for you?â Blake said to him.
âI came to apologize to Ryley. I was out of line.â I heard him
say.
âApology accepted,â I called out, not wanting this to drag on more than it had to.
âI signed the paperwork.â He told Blake. He nodded before closing the door.
âWhat was that about?â Channing asked as Blake came to sit on the couch beside me.
âHe said some shit to your mother, and I told him if he did apologize I would bankrupt his company,â Blake shrugged and I gasped.
âBlake, over a few angry words?â
âAt least he got to keep his life. If he was a wolf, he would be dead for what he said to you.â He wrapped his arm around my shoulders, pulling me against him, he kissed my

temple.
âIs that normal? To feel that overprotective?â Channing questioned. He and Aspen were seated in the chairs in front of my desk.
âYouâre an alpha wolf. And we are very protective of what we view as ours. And when you find your mate, you will do any and everything to keep her safe and happy,â Blake explained to him.
âIt could explain why you are more grumpy than usual,â Aspen said and Channing growled. Channing has always been a calm and patient child.
âChanning,â I scolded him.
âRyley, this is normal for alpha wolves. They are going to be more aggressive. Itâs something they need to learn how to control.â Blake said to me.
âItâs fine, Iâm used to Mr. Grumpypants. I just beat him up on the training field.â Aspen chuckled.
âSpeaking of training, you two are going to be late,â Blake announced, looking at his watch. I stood up and moved toward my son.
âJust take a few breaths, sweetie,â I told him, kissing his cheek. He gave me a nod. Aspen came over to get a kiss as well before they both left my office.
Hlet out a sigh as I flopped down on the couch beside Blake. I think this stage of raising an alpha wolf was the worst. But I guess meeting his father didnât help.

âOr you almost dying,â Lily chimed in.
âIt will get easier,â Blake assured me.
âI feel like itâs about to get worse before it gets better,â I breathed out. Blake leaned back, wrapping an arm around my shoulders.
âEverything will work out. You now have a pack standing behind you. And an alpha that wonât let anything happen to you,â He mumbled, kissing my temple.
âHave you noticed anything with Aspen?â I asked him.
âNot really. But Channing has an alpha and a Luna for parents. Thatâs going to make things more intense for him. Was your mother a Luna wolf?â
âShe wasnât. I know both her parents were from alphas. And both my fatherâs parents were from alphas. Maybe thatâs why Iâm a Luna. I would have to track down my family tree to see if there were any Luna wolves in the family.â I told
him.
âI can ask my father to look into it. He and my mother live very close to the council building.â He offered.
âI would like that, thank you.â I smiled until I thought about his mother and her hate for me.
âDoes it bother you that your mother doesnât like me?â I mumbled, playing with my hands. He gripped my chin, turning my head so I was looking at him.
âNo. Iâm sure after she stops listening to her friends and

gets to know you, sheâll love you. She should be thankful that the woman I want to be with, loves her grandson as much as I do.â He rubbed his nose against mine.
âThank you, Blake. But letâs deal with one issue at a time. We need to call Lisa.â I told him and his chest rumbled.
âBlake, thereâs nothing to worry about. Iâm with you, and even if I wasnât, I wouldnât be with him. He has his mate.â I
reassured him.
âThatâs not what Iâm worried about. If Dorian wanted to he could go to the council and demand you. Even with him being marked. With you being unmarked he can still claim you,â He growled, and I sat there stunned. To the council, I was just property to my fated mate.
âSo, Iâm expected to share my mate, but he isnât to share me?â I huffed, and his chest rumbled.
expected
âYou know what I mean, Blake. I donât want to share or be shared. I just think this is all ridiculous.â I scoffed.
âItâs something I have my father looking into. But Channing is worried that his father will force you to be with him.â He told me.
âThatâs why heâs been more on edge lately?â I asked him.
âI canât say for sure but I think so. He wants to protect you but he doesnât know how.â He shrugged.
âAnd is that why you want to mark me?â I questioned.
âBaby, I want to be with you. I want you to be my Luna. And

if me marking you protects you from your fated mate and the council, then thatâs just the added bonus. Even if they couldnât come after you, I would still want to mark you.â He confessed.
âFuck,â I breathed out, leaning my head against the back of
the couch.
âThereâs no pressure. We are moving at a speed that you are comfortable with,â he reassured me, rubbing his hand up my thigh.
âYou may not be pressuring me, Blake, but if the council found out about everything. They would force me to mark him. And if they found out I was a Luna wolf, they could sell me to the highest bidder.â I exclaimed, tears filling my eyes. I had to make a decision quickly or I may never have a choice.
âI wonât let anything happen, Baby.â He said, pulling me against his chest.
âWe should give Lisa a call. I need to know if they found out anything.â
