Watching Ryley with our boys had my heart swelling with love. They may not be little anymore but they still crave comfort only a mother can provide. Aspen may spend a lot of his time with her but I also spend quality time with the boys in the afternoons after their training. It makes me proud to watch them train the little kids. And I enjoy sparring with them after they are all done. Channing is an excellent fighter. They both are. They both have different techniques and they are becoming stronger fighters, together. Even Iâve learned a thing or two from Channing.
When Ryley was speaking with the boys Dr. Perry mind-linked me, telling me Ryley can go home to rest. A nurse would be in soon to get her ready to leave. But it was Lucaâs mind-link that had me on edge. I ordered Alpha Dorian and his pack to be escorted off of my pack lands. I would still send a team but I didnât want him anywhere near Ryley. She may not know it yet but she is mine.
The alpha had refused to leave the pack before speaking with her. He should be back at his pack protecting them from another rogue attack, but instead, he is demanding to speak to the person he tried to kill. I would have gone to the pack house to deal with this myself but Ryley woke up, and I didnât want to leave her. Now, Channing and she will have to have round-the-clock protection.
âIf he touches either of them, heâs dead,â Gunner growled.
âLetâs get home then. I need a long hot bath,â Ryley said when I told her she could leave as long as she rested.

âAre you willing to speak with Alpha Dorian?â I asked her.
âMom, donât. Nothing he has to say matters.â Channing told her.

âI wonât force or ask you to have a relationship with him. And frankly, I donât trust him being around you. You are almost an adult and can decide who youâd like to have in your life. But there are answers I need to move on with my life.â She said to her son. My heart ached for both of them, but especially her. I couldnât imagine the pain she went through after learning that the one person who had hurt her the most was her fated mate. And he was the father of her child. She had to look at his face every day when she looked at Channing.
I didnât want her to give in to his demands and the thought of him being near her, made me want to rip him apart. I knew he was going to try to wiggle his way back in. Heâd be st*pid not to. Alphas are stronger with their fated mates. So it makes me wonder why he wouldnât have waited for his. Unless he knew she was his and he
believed she was dead.
The boys and I left the room when a nurse came in with some clothes for Ryley. It was time to take her home. But first, we had to see her ex. I had a bad feeling about her seeing the alpha again. Even though I was excited to finally get Ryley into my bed. With the door locked so there would be no more interruptions.
âThe doctor said she needs to rest,â Gunner grumbled.
âBlake, I donât like this. I donât want that f*cker anywhere near my mom,â Channing confessed, interrupting my conversation with my wolf.
âI donât like it either, but she has her mind made up. But I promise I wonât leave her side. Nothing is going to happen to her.â I told him.

âOver my dead body,â Gunner growled.
âDad, that canât happen, can it? He marked someone else, doesnât that mean their bond is broken?â Aspen questioned.
âThe mate bond can be tricky. Itâs designed to bring two souls together. She never rejected him but her wolf didnât claim him when she saw him. Ryley is smart. I know she wonât fall for his b****hit again. She has us, and we wonât let him get a hold of her again.â I reassured them.
âBlake, he isnât a good person or alpha. And I donât want her to be sucked back into a world that almost killed her. And me. She was right to keep me away from him. Iâve followed his pack with Grandadâs help. He killed her family and stole her pack,â he exclaimed. Ryley opened up the door, stepping out into the hallway wearing black sweatpants and a grey sweatshirt. Channing quickly turned away, wiping his eyes. He was scared for his mother. And I understand why. In all reality, Ryley should be dead. If he wants her dead, heâll try until he succeeds.
The tension was palpable as she looked at all of us. She had to have known her son was scared of losing her. Channing was also the rightful heir to his fatherâs pack. He was his firstborn child. This coming to light was going to cause waves with the council.
âMom, I donât like this. Please donât,â he pleaded with her. Her face softened as we approached him.
âThere is nothing he could say to regain my trust. There are things that you donât know and I need him to know what I know. If Iâm going down, heâs coming with me. And then youâll be taking over my pack. Where you should have been this entire time. I should have challenged him for my pack back, but I was scared he would take you from me. Iâ ve been protecting you, your entire life and now itâs time to fight for

âI donât need a pack, Mom, and neither does my wolf, Bliz. Heâs happy with the path Iâve set out for us.â He said.
âI know you donât need a pack, sweetie. But I should have protected my pack. I was young and scared and now all I want is to take back everything that was mine. I work so hard to be the perfect leader for my father and I wonât let the man who killed him think he won. Itâs time for me to make a stand for my wolf.â She caressed his cheek. I grabbed her other hand, squeezing it to let her know she wasnât doing this alone. I may not know the entire story but I will fight with her and for her until my last breath.
