Chapter Forty-One
Alpha Blake
I was sitting in my office trying to get some work done. Aspen had gone with Ryley and Channing to the cabin for the night. I havenât spoken to her since last night and I havenât been able to stop thinking about her. Maybe if I would have stayed the night with her? She could have woken up in my arms and then maybe she would see how perfect we are for each other.
My phone rang on my desk where I had placed it. Looking at the screen, Aspenâs name popped up. My stomach tightened with worry as I answered the phone.
âAspen?â
âDad, we need you. The Shadow Moon pack beta crossed the fence and heâs threatening Ryley. Channing called Walter but we need help.â Aspen yelled into the phone. He was breathing heavily like he was running.
âWhere are you? Are you hurt?â I growled, my blood boiling. I was already up from my desk and rushing to the garage to my truck.
âNot hurt. Ryley told us to get back to the cabin. But Dad, sheâs on her own. The beta had warriors with him.â He yelled in despair.
âAspen, get to the cabin and wait for Walter. Iâll be there as soon as I can.â I ended the call before I mind-linked Luca.
âGarage now. Shadow Moon is attacking Ryleyâs cabin.â

âWhat the f*ck?â Luca replied. I didnât answer. I picked up my speed to get to the garage. My stomach twisted painfully. If anything happens to her, I will rip that pack apart, and not even the council will be able to stop me. I tried to call Ryley but it went straight to voicemail.
âF*ck,â I growled, frustrated. Luca met me at my truck.
âShe isnât answering,â I told him, climbing in behind the wheel. Luca took the passenger seat. I immediately called Aspen back. I needed to know what was going on. The call went through the speakers before I ripped out of the garage and away from the pack house. This, two-hour drive was going to be hell.
âDad?â Aspen answered.
âWhatâs going on? Are you boys at the cabin?â I rushed out. My heart
was pounding in my chest.
âChanning and I are at the cabin. Channing has Walter on the phone. But Dad, we heard howling.â He said in despair.
âIâm about to go get her. I wonât let that f**ker kill her,â I heard Channing growl out.
âAnd she would never forgive herself if anything happened to you. She told us to go back to the cabin.â Aspen told him.
âHow far out is Walter? Iâm on my way now with Luca. We should be there in an hour.â
âWalter is about ten minutes out.â He answered.
âDoes Ryley have her phone?â I questioned.
âI donât think so. Did something happen? She seemed off today?â Aspen asked. I quickly looked at Luca who was staring at me.

âNot that I know of. But what happened? Why did the pack attack?â I exclaimed, speeding down the road that exited the pack. I was easily doing double the speed limit.
âI donât know. Walter couldnât be here until later so Ryley wanted to walk the fence. Thatâs when we say the pack. Dad, he was planning on killing all of us. If Ryley canât defend us, they will attack the cabin.â He breathed out. I could hear the panic in his voice. He was scared and so was I. I gripped the steering wheel until my knuckles turned white.
If anything was to happen to any of them, there was nothing that was going to stop Gunner.
â
âAspen just stay on the line with me. We will be there as soon as we can. Stay indoors and lock everything. Only open the door for Walter and Ryley.â I explained.
âDad, what if sheâs hurt? We should have stayed to protect her.â Aspen cried. And listening to my son cry, broke my heart.
âAspen, her job is to protect you and Channing. And she is doing that. If she can kick my a*s, I know she will be okay.â Luca tried to reassure him.
âHeâs right, son. You did the right thing. She wouldnât have been able to think clearly if she was worried about you two.â I told him.
âWalterâs here,â I heard Channing call out. I heard a bunch of m**fled noises and a door slamming.
âWhere is Ryley?â I heard Walter exclaim.
âShe hasnât returned,â Channing answered him. I could hear the despair in his voice.
âIâll go get her. You two stay here,â he commanded.

âWalter, my beta, and I are on our way,â I yelled through the phone. I knew Aspen had me on speaker.
âGood. It would seem my son needs a good a*s kicking.â He scoffed. I heard more rustling before I heard gasps. I couldnât make out what was happening.
âThereâs so much blood,â I heard Channing cry out. My heart twisted painfully and I increased my speed.
âWhat the hell is happening?â I screamed.
âRyleyâs back but shifted. She is covered in blood Dad. I canât even tell what color her wolf is. And I donât know if itâs all hers or not. Sheâs limping.â Aspen said panicked.
âShe went into the bathroom and closed the door. She hasnât shifted back. I donât know how bad she is. And Walter doesnât want to leave us to find his son.â He cried.
âDad, there is so much blood.â I was ready to rip the steering wheel off the column. My blood was boiling with a fury I donât think Iâve ever felt before.
âStay in the cabin, Iâll be there soon,â I told him before ending the call.
âBlake you need to calm down. We donât need to start a war,â Luca spoke to me calmly. He has seen firsthand the kind of monster Gunner can be.
âIt wouldnât be a war. It would be an execution.â I growled, adjusting my grip on the wheel. There was nothing Luca could say to reason with me. Ryley was hurt and that f**ker was going to pay.
