The best-laid plans start with a scheme. It can be something as simple as planting a seed for trouble.
Like I did yesterday.
Teal has been ignoring me since I announced my threesome plans with Claire and her friend. When she thinks Iâm not watching, she glares at my back.
She canât resist glaring. Itâs in her personality and the only way she can purge away her emotions.
Sometimes, her brows will furrow when Iâm in her peripheral vision, as if she canât comprehend whatâs going on. She realises something is wrong, but she canât figure out how to fix it.
What she doesnât know is that sheâll fall in line sooner or later.
My fucking line.
I spent the entire evening with Knox at their house last night, making sure she didnât go out for whoever the fuck is on her contacts. Iâll do something about those suckers later. Itâll start with erasing them from her life and end with no future contact with them.
For now, she needs to admit her fault, realise what sheâs done, and promise she wonât do it again.
Thereâs something about Teal aside from how real she is. She also goes bonkers when she doesnât understand shit. This situation isnât something Google can answer for her, just like it canât answer my questions about her. Thereâs nothing about her and Knox on the internet except the fact that theyâre Ethanâs foster children. The whole thing is suspicious as fuck, and while Knox isnât any help, thereâs another family member who is.
I find Elsa right before her track practice, the only time the fucker Aiden leaves her alone.
Sheâs on her way to the pitch when I wrap an arm around her shoulder and fall in step beside her. âHow is my favourite Ellie?â
âYou have many Ellies?â
âJust three.â I grin. âAnd youâre the best out of them all.â
âYouâre incorrigible, Ronan.â
âYour compliments warm my heart.â
She looks me up and down. âShouldnât you be at practice?â
âIt got cancelled. Donât tell King.â
âWhy not?â she whispers, as if this is an elaborate plot.
âHeâs a dick all the time, while I only get to be a dick now and again.â
She laughs, poking my side. âDonât let him hear you say that.â
âOur secret. My life depends on it â seriously.â
âIf you know that, why do you keep provoking him?â
I lift a shoulder. âBecause itâs fun.â
âFun, huh?â
âSpeaking of fun or the lack thereof, I still cry into my pillow every night because you refused to marry me and threw me to your foster sister.â I feign sadness. âI thought I meant more to you than shallow fun, Ellie.â
âHey, Teal is great.â
âIs she, though?â
âShe is. Sheâs just misunderstood.â
âMisunderstood, really? Surely you heard about the horror story she started at school yesterday?â
She smiles awkwardly. I hit the nail on the head with that one. âSheâs just protective and doesnât like being provoked.â
âDo you think she wants this whole engagement thing?â
âShe said she does.â
I donât miss the way Elsaâs face scrunches as she says those words. She doesnât believe her.
Thatâsâ¦interesting.
âDo you think sheâs lying?â I feign nonchalance.
âNo, butâ¦â She stares up at me, biting her lip. âYouâre my friend, too, and I think you need to know this.â
âKnow what?â
âI think Teal has always had a crush on Agnus.â
Fucking Agnus again. The next time I see that man, something childish and out of character will happen â or criminal, depending on my mood.
âFor the record, I like you best, Ro.â Elsa pats my hand thatâs dangling on her shoulder. âAgnus is manipulative as hell, and I donât like that heâs important to Dadâs business. If I have to pick a side, itâll undoubtedly be yours.â
I place a hand on my heart. âI knew you loved me. Now, about that threesome Aiden shouldnât know aboutâ¦â
âStop it.â She chuckles.
âI swear my dick is bigger than his.â
âHow would you know that?â
âShower, Ellie. Ever heard of it? Aiden and I have taken them together more times than I could count.â
Her cheeks redden. âI didnât need that image.â
I waggle an eyebrow. âYes, you did. Now, letâs plot the fun weâll have without him.â
âWithout who?â Aidenâs voice cuts into my plan like a devilâs sword. He yanks my arm off Elsaâs shoulder and plants himself between us as he holds her to him by the waist. âFrom today onwards, youâre not allowed near Elsa when Iâm not here.â
âQuestion is, how would you know if youâre not here?â I taunt. âNice jersey.â
He cuts me a glare and I grin. He changed into the team jersey and shorts before he found out practice was cancelled. Since Iâm still in my uniform, it means I knew all along and didnât tell him.
Pushing Aidenâs buttons. Good times.
âElsa was just agreeing to the threesome,â I continue. âYouâre welcome to watch.â
Elsa motions at me to shut up, seeming worried about my safety. I expected Aiden to threaten my life and remind me of the grave heâs been digging for me since the beginning of the year, but he smirks instead.
The fuck? Is he immune to it now?
No, come on. Provoking Aiden so he shows his non-poker face is one of my recent favourite hobbies.
So, I go with it and snap my fingers. âThis means youâre cool with it, right? Ellie, I meant it about the size, and ââ
He cuts me off. âHow is your fiancée, Astor?â
I smile. âProbably performing some satanic rituals.â
âHey!â Elsa scolds me.
I pretend to grin back. What Elsa doesnât know is that I need to keep up the façade, need to make everyone believe I donât give two fucks about Teal â even she needs to know that. She needs to realise thereâs no way in fuck sheâll become my weakness like Aiden is parading his around in the form of Elsa.
I donât have weaknesses. I have people.
Lots of fucking people who fill every corner of my life.
So what if Teal stands out from that crowd? So what if Iâve been looking for her during lunch break and havenât found her? I wonât show it or ask about her.
Sheâll be the one whoâll admit her fault and come back to me, not the other way around.
Iâm an earlâs heir. We never show our true emotions.
âI see,â Aiden muses. âThat must be why sheâs with Cole then. You know, for pointers.â
What the fuck is she doing with Cole?
As if reading my mind, Aidenâs smirk widens. âYou know his rituals. They can getâ¦interesting.â
âUh-huh.â I donât know how I manage to get that out with how firmly Iâm gritting my teeth.
âTheyâre in the garden, near the back.â
Cole is with Teal in the garden, where he usually reads alone like a creep. What is he doing there with her?
And what is she doing with Cole instead of coming to me?
âI didnât ask.â I smile at Aiden.
âIâm just saying. They were cosy.â Heâs talking to me, but his lips are whispering the words against Elsaâs forehead. âSend me updates.â
And then he disappears with his girlfriend down the hall, and not in the direction of the pitch.
For a second, I stand there, processing Aidenâs words. He could be lying to get a rise out of me, but thatâs the problem: he doesnât â lie, I mean. He likes chaos, but not to the point of making things up.
Cole and Teal are cosy.
I run a hand through my hair. Fuck!
âHey, Ron.â Claireâs soft voice barges through my head before she grabs me by the arm. âYou look tense. Do you want me to loosen you up? Reese would help, too.â
I stare at her face, but Iâm not seeing her. My dick is so flaccid, Ron Astor the Second is about to start weeping â and not in a good way.
Claire and her friend do shit for me now. I never even planned to fuck them, and my challenge to Teal yesterday was only that â a challenge. I never planned to act on it. Iâm almost sure she never meant to act on her threat either.
So what the fuck is she doing with Cole?
âLater, Claire.â I push her and her disappointed expression out of view as I hurry to the other entrance of the school and towards the garden.
I try telling myself Cole isnât her type. She prefers older and fucked up.
Still, cosy. Aiden said cosy. What does cosy mean? Theyâre sitting together under the tree and reading poetry? Theyâre talking â which is as cosy as Teal would get? Maybe theyâre writing their own book titled How to be Fucked Up, and Other Questions.
Even as I tell myself that, my blood boils with every step I take. Theyâre not even in view and Iâm about ready to cut a bitch and murder a fucker.
I try not to think of small things, like the fact that Cole was the first one she openly greeted when she first transferred to RES.
Or how when we watch games at Aidenâs house, heâs the only one sheâll willingly sit beside, and how she even listens to him when he speaks.
Heâs not her type.
Then I recall the fucking fact that heâs the one who accepted her into his club and that he knew sheâd be there that night. A coincidence, the bastard said.
Thereâs no coincidence with Cole. He plots everything to a T then pretends itâs been a coincidence all along.
The fucker.
My feet come to a stop of their own volition. Sure enough, Cole and Teal are sitting on the same bench, reading from a book.
Theyâre reading from the same fucking book like in some period drama.
Teal tucks her hair behind her ear. Itâs useless. Her strands are too silky and will fall over her face in no time. She smiles up at Cole, and the fucker smiles back as if this is some sort of cheesy teen film.
My vision turns red.
I donât care if this is planned by Cole and Aiden; theyâll all learn their places â starting with Teal.
A hand grips my arm, stopping me in my tracks. I stare down at Silverâs calculative features, her bitch mask in place and ready for trouble.
âWhat are you doing here?â I ask.
âAiden sent me a text to meet him here.â
Of course he did. That arsehole is out for blood while heâs shagging his girlfriend somewhere.
âHeâs not here,â I mutter while gritting my teeth.
âI can see that.â Her gaze doesnât leave Cole and Teal as she releases me and folds her arms.
âWhat are you going to do about it, queen bee?â
âWhat makes you think Iâll do anything?â
âCome on, Silver, itâs me. We both know youâre plotting trouble in that pretty little head of yours.â I grin. âHow about a collaboration?â
She raises a brow. âA collaboration?â
âCole and Teal think they can play everyone, but they didnât consider us, did they?â
Her lips curve in a smirk, and I smirk back.
I warned Teal. I told her sheâs fucked, but she didnât listen.
If words didnât put her in her place, action will.
