I couldn't believe it! He wanted me to go against everything I knew. Everything that I had learned from a young age. He wanted me to oppose all my morals and ideas of what justice is. I couldn't defy him, he'd kill me. But, was my life worth this much?
"What if I don't want to vow omèrta?" I asked him and he grinned.
"You stay here forever or you join that scum Loria in the fields twenty feet under in his mass grave."
"I can't do that." I muttered fiddling with my hands.
"You can't or you won't?"
"It's not right. I can't do that. Those people know that I'm loyal to them."
"Yet, you have no qualms betraying me."
"I... Can't... You're bad. You kill people."
"Now that you've stated the obvious you can leave." He commanded.
"I don't want to be here anymore." I finally said as my voice cracked, "I honestly can't handle this anymore." I sobbed.
Vinchenzo rolled his eyes, "Smetilla!"
[Stop it!]
"Stop talking Italian! You know I can't speak it or understand it." I sighed.
He chuckled, "Go Red. You'll find I'm not too forgiving." He added darkly.
"You're cruel and cold hearted." I lashed out and stormed out his office.
I made my way to the cerulean scheme where I saw Dantè leaning against the counter talking to Sienna. I approached them with fast, long strides.
"He wants me to vow Omèrta." I burst unable to hold the piece of information from Sienna.
Dantè scoffed, "Did you think you'd parade around here not signing the Vitali code?" He sneered.
Sienna smacked him lightly on the chest. I was surprised when he didn't rip his gun out and shoot her dead. He looked like he would.
"Play nice, Dee." She said as Dantè rolled his eyes.
"I just want out." I admitted.
"I'm sure, sweetie. We can't. We are all trapped here for life. The only way we can get out of here is if we are dead and in a body bag."
"They still scan the bag for a heartbeat before it leaves the compound, Arianna. Don't get any ideas," Dantè warned.
I sighed, "I won't tell them anything. I want to go home and see my cat! She must be starving! That poor thing has no one to feed it."
"You're one of those crazy cat ladies? I so did not expect that." Sienna said.
"I'm not crazy. I'm pretty sure I can classify my self as a stealth operative and to be a stealth operative you have to be slightly sane." I said, "I don't know about my sanity after I get out of this." I added.
Sienna laughed, "You're adorable."
"Thank you."
"I guess I can show you to our game room," Sienna said, "I don't think the Don will reprimand for that." She said looking at Dantè for confirmation.
Dantè shrugged, "Don't look at me Enna. I won't be blamed for this."
Aww! Their nicknames for each other are so cute! I thought to myself.
"You're too serious, Dantè. You should relax a little."
"I'm the second in charge around here, I don't think the word 'relax' is allowed in my dictionary." He gruffly responded.
"Oh hush! You're too sour, are you sure your family didn't originate from lemons?"
Dantè rolled his eyes, "I'm sure Enna. I'll see you later."
"Bye Dee!" She called out behind him.
"Enna? Dee?" I asked her as red tinted her face, "You so like him Sienna? When were you planning to tell me?"
"Um never? Things between Dantè and I can never happen."
"And why not?"
"We're both in primary positions. None of us can leave to be anywhere together. It's difficult as it is already to just speak to him for a couple of minutes." She explained.
"I can look after things while you're gone." I offered.
She smiled, "As much as I appreciate that offer I don't think Vitali will be too happy when he finds out I've left you in charge. You still are a traitor to all those who do know." She shrugged apologetically.
"Is that why none of the girls here talk to me?"
"The girls don't know. Only the top level men know and all the leaders of the different rooms."
"I thought you run them all?"
"I only run this one. The other rooms are run by other women who are well trusted."
"What must you do to run a room?" I asked curious.
"I don't know the criteria, Ari. Why do you ask?"
"I was thinking of opening up my own scheme." I said.
Sienna burst out laughing and began to slap the counter top, "You... you... open your own scheme?" She asked struggling to breathe.
I was offended, "Yes!"
"Wait you're serious?" She sobered up.
I nodded, "Yes. It would be the black scheme and it's a scheme were women who want to train can."
"Oh my sweetheart! I'm sure you cab try running the idea by the Don. Maybe he will agree? I mean you are his lover." She added smugly.
I rolled my eyes, "He does not like me. He probably wants to gut me out like a rat and dump me in a mass grave."
She smirked, "If he wanted to do actually do that, he would've done it."
"He is keeping me alive so that I can be a rat amongst the FBI." I said.
"Hmm, weird." She commented.
"Why?"
"He kills anyone who crosses him. Men, woman and children alike. He has no emotions, Arianna." She said shaking her head.
"Everyone has emotions." I argued.
"Sure. He controls them so well he seems so emotionless as though he doesn't hae them. That's why he makes such a great leader." Sienna said as she typed away.
I sighed, "When are you showing me the game room?"
"In a few we close, so we'll go then." Sienna explained.
I served some drinks at the table and made sure that I didn't 'crowd the table' with my tray. I didn't see Vinchenzo or Dantè enter the room again and I was surprised as they did a lot of business here.
I helped Sienna sign off each girl on her mini register and then made sure all chairs were pushed in and all the turquoise table cloths were placed on neatly.
"We are good to lock up." Sienna said as we walked out.
She pulled both French doors closed and locked them, placing the lanyard that held her key around her neck.
"Let me show you to the Ladies Room." She said as she turned down the corridor opposite to the one that took us to the usual dorms.
"The mauve, red and yellow schemes are down this corridor. If you want me to tell you when to close your eyes, speak now or forever hold your silence, Ari."
"Is it highly disturbing?"
"Yes. There's no shame." She uttered sounding absolutely disgusted, "I close my eyes and block my ears too."
"Woah," I commented, "That sounds horrible."
"The ladies who work the mauve scheme aren't exactly the nicest." Sienna winced.
"Okay close your eyes and block your ears!" Sienna said as she tightly shut her eyes and I saw her plug her fingers into her ears. I followed suit.
"What exactly are you both doing?" A voice boomed down the corridor.
