NOAH
He moved from behind his desk to stand behind her.
âIâm an asshole,â he admitted, not expecting her to deny it.
She glanced at him over her shoulder, her eyebrow raised.
âThatâs common knowledge,â she retorted.
âAnd yet,â he said, placing his hands on her shoulders, âyouâre fond of me, just as I am of you.â
âYes, but unlike you, Iâm not an asshole. Iâve always been seen as a freak.â
âThat was just a facade. Youâre not a freak, and pushing you away wasnât my brightest idea. I can admit that now.â
âIs this your way of admitting you were wrong?â
âMaybe, but donât expect more than that.â
âStill too proud to give a proper apology,â she teased.
âOne thing I admired about you was that you never expected me to change,â he said, a hint of disappointment in his voice.
âYou understood me, and Iâd like to think I understood you.â
âJust because I understand you doesnât mean I can always tolerate you, Noah,â she sighed.
She shrugged her shoulders, signaling she wanted his hands off her. She moved around him and sat in one of his armchairs.
He followed her but remained standing.
âSometimes, I canât even stand myself, Lillian. So, Iâve learned to accept that others might tolerate me even less. But I did grow fond of you.â
âBy fond, you meanâ¦â she began, but her voice trailed off as she saw him kneel before her.
With a mischievous grin, he spread her knees apart.
âYou shouldâve worn a skirt,â he chided.
She tried to close her legs, but he blocked her.
âI donât like skirts.â
âBut you like dresses,â he said, his hands moving up and down her thighs.
âOnly in the summer.â
âItâs spring now.â
âItâs still too cold, and please stand up. Youâre not getting out of this conversation.â
That was exactly what he was trying to do. Avoid the conversation. He wasnât one for declarations of love. It was absurd. He didnât mean anything like that. He was just fond of herâ¦attached to herâ¦nothing more⦠Well, there was the sex, and he had missed that.
âNope,â he said casually, despite her resistance.
âNoah.â
âI can lock the door if you want, but we wonât be disturbed, I promise.â
âIs it a tradition to sleep with women in your office?â she asked sarcastically, trying to push his hands away but failing.
âIâve never slept with a woman in my office,â he assured her.
She gave him a skeptical look, and he rolled his eyes. Heâd rather sleep with her than explain, but he did it anyway.
âI usually keep my affairs to hotels. Not that I havenât been inappropriate in the office, but I thought it would be distasteful to get caught.â
âYou could lock the door like you suggested earlier.â
âAnd then whoeverâs outside would know whatâs happening inside. If it was a cleaner or an employee, I wouldnât care. But if it was my father or a client⦠I didnât want to lose clients or investors over a fling. Howeverâ¦â
He unbuttoned her jeans and pulled the zipper down.
âThere are no clients or investors here right now.â
He pulled her jeans down, and she lifted her hips to help him. He had expected more resistance, but it seemed she wanted this as much as he did. That was good. Very good.
âYou should take off my shoes too,â she smirked.
âAs you wish,â he agreed, doing as she asked because it would make things easier.
âAnd you should really rent out the rest of the building. You only need this floor and maybe the one below it, along with the parking.â
He pulled her jeans off completely and tossed them aside.
âThe other two floors, you could rent out to fund your project andâ¦â
He kissed her left calf.
âMake it successful,â she finished.
He stood up and pulled his T-shirt over his head.
âYou didnât listen to a word I said, did you?â she laughed.
âI heard every word, and youâre right. But right now, I want to sleep with you because I missed you. We can talk about work later.â
He knelt back down and looked up at her.
âDo you want me to take off your panties, or are you going to do it yourself?â he asked.
She didnât say a word, just slipped out of her underwear and tossed it in the direction of her jeans.
He grinned, pleased.
âNow, rest your legs on the armrests,â he instructed gently.
She raised an eyebrow but complied. He knew she was only following his orders because she knew sheâd enjoy it, and he liked that. He didnât want her to be naturally submissive.
He bent down and began to plant kisses from her knee up to her thigh. He paused at her folds, placed a teasing kiss, and then dove right in.
Her moans were all the confirmation he needed that he was doing a good job, and he relished it as much as she did.

She laid her head on his shoulder. The last position theyâd had sex in was with him sitting behind his desk and Lillian straddling him. She hadnât been quiet, so he was pretty sure the people in the building had heard her.
He didnât mind. He was okay. He had missed her, and he was in desperate need of a few rounds of fantastic sex.
He kissed the top of her head. He knew she had missed him too. They were similar in how they expressed their emotions, so he knew she wouldnât say it outright, but he didnât need her to. After all, he couldnât ask her for something he couldnât give himself.
âDo you want to work for me?â he whispered into her hair.
âNo,â she mumbled.
âWhy not?â
âBecause at some point youâre going to have clients and we wonât be able to fuck like rabbits in here.â
âIâll keep my hands to myself during work hours,â he promised, knowing full well he was lying.
She knew it too, because she snorted.
âJust at the beginning then,â he suggested. âIâm drowning in paperwork and tasks that need to be done, and Iâve always had people to handle that stuff. Iâve never done it myself.â
âIâm not going to do your paperwork for you, Noah.â
âI donât want you to do it. I want you to help me do it.â
âI told you, I have a job.â
âAt a coffee shop?â he scoffed.
âTea shop, you jerk,â she corrected him.
âItâs only temporary though, right?â
She didnât respond right away. Then she sighed.
âIt started out that way, but honestly, I really love it there. It pays well for a part-time job, and Iâm happy from the moment I walk in to the moment I leave. I havenât been happy going to work in a long time.â
âBut itâs supposed to be temporary,â he insisted.
âIâm not sure yet. I still check my emails to see if anyoneâs responded to my applications, but I donât care as much anymore. I like working for Hikaru. Heâs a kind, gentle man who puts his heart into his work to honor his wifeâs memory.â
âI didnât peg you as the romantic type,â he teased.
âI value loyalty, thatâs all.â
He stroked her back thoughtfully. Loyalty was important. In a way, Lillian had been loyal to him, and in a way, he had been loyal to her.
He kissed her head again.
âAre you hungry?â he asked softly.
âI am, yes.â
âDo you want to order in or should I take you out?â
âCan you afford to take me out?â she joked. âYour expenses are through the roof.â
âI can afford it. Donât worry. So, in or out?â
âIs there a proper bathroom here?â
âThe previous owner was very particular about it. I didnât even have to renovate it. I think he was fucking his assistants in here too. Either that, or he had to stay for long hours.â
âIâm more interested in whether thereâs a shower stall in it right now.â
âThereâs a shower stall and towels ready to be used. Get up, my legs are going numb.â
âAre you calling me fat?â
âIâm saying youâre heavy, which isnât necessarily the same thing. Youâve been sitting on me for a while now.â
âYou didnât seem to mind my weight when I was riding you,â she reminded him.
âAnd I wonât complain if you ride me again.â
He wasnât joking. He was getting hard again, and he made sure she felt it.
She stood up quickly and looked down at him, surprised. He suppressed a chuckle.
âAre you going to shower too?â she asked.
âIâll have to. I got pretty sweaty.â
âAnd you were well prepared for it,â she replied.
âReady for what?â
âYou know, the condoms.â
He shrugged, a casual lift of his shoulders. âGuess itâs just an old habit.â
âAn old habit of what? Sleeping around?â She turned on her heel, her voice laced with scorn.
âYou told me you werenât the jealous type.â
âIâm not.â
âThey were just in my back pocket. Probably been there since the last time we were together.â
Her face twisted in distaste. âThatâs kind of gross, you know.â
He frowned, confusion etching lines into his forehead. âWhat do you mean?â
âIt means you donât wash your clothes nearly as often as you should.â
His laughter echoed around themâa sudden burst of sound.

After lunch, he took a moment to check on the workersâ progress before dismissing them for the day. It wasnât that he was trying to overwork them or rush the project.
It was more about the budget. Heâd crunched the numbers and knew exactly how many hours he could afford to pay them each week. It wasnât as much as heâd like, but it was what it was.
âWant to check out where Iâm staying?â he asked Lillian.
âAre you going to brag about your fancy penthouse?â she shot back, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
âItâs not mine to brag about. I just thought it might be a nice way to thank you for your hospitality. Plus, the view is pretty amazing.â
âGetting a little full of yourself, are we?â
âNot at all. But you canât turn me down. You already said you had the day off.â
âI can say no if I donât want to,â she replied, her voice soft and sweet.
âCome on, you know you want to. You loved the villa. Thereâs no way you wonât love the penthouse. Plus, now that weâre back together, there are so many more places we can explore.â
âYou sure have a lot of energy for a guy your age.â
âSay one more thing about my age and Iâll show you just how much energy I have.â
âYou canât. Youâre out of condoms.â
