When Dexter arrived, Heather was in the midst of directing the proceedings within the crowd. Despite her fatigue, her face was filled with excitement.
Claudia was also present, accompanying Heather.
âMs. Hadey.â Dexter nodded his head in acknowledgment, his expression indiscernible.
Upon seeing him, Claudia gave him a once-over, then nodded thoughtfully. âIâm glad you could come,â
she said. âLeanne will be very happy too.â
Dexter followed her gaze, saying nonchalantly, âAs it should be.â
When he spoke, it was as if he was merely handling a routine matter, devoid of any emotion.
Claudia stood by his side. âWould you consider me as an elder who has watched you grow up?â
âOf course I do.â
âLet me give you a piece of advice,â Claudia said with meaningfully. âThere are some people and things that you should let go when itâs time. Youâve come this far. Who knows if a misfortune might turn out to be a blessing? Leanne is not bad at all.â
Dexter pursed his lips without responding. Just then, Heather spotted him, her face lighting up in. She darted through the crowd, wearing a vibrant smile. âDax, you got here so quickly.â
Dexterâs expression was calm, his large hand gently resting on top of her head. âOf course, I canât let you handle all this by yourself.â
Heatherâs smile broadened with bliss as she led him forward. âLet me run you through the process.
Tomorrow, we will walk down this path together.â
Claudia stood behind them, watching the retreating figures of the two young people with a faint smile.
Just then, someone approached and whispered something in her ear, triggering a change in her expression. She glanced at Dexterâs silhouette before leaving. âLetâs talk outside.â
Dexter had rarely shown such patience before. He accompanied Heather through the majority of the process, and the latter was exceptionally pleased.
âWhy are you always staring at me with that silly smile?â He took the water handed to him by the attendant, unscrewing the cap for her.
âBecause youâre handsome, Dax,â Heather didnât hide her feelings. âIâve never felt this happy before.
Youâre about to become my husband.â
âAre you happy that Iâm going to become your husband?â
âOf course.â
âHowever, there are many negative comments from the outside world. They say that I, being a divorcee, am not worthy of you,â he said calmly.
âI never thought of it in that way,â Heather threw herself into Dexterâs arms. âIn my heart, youâve merely taken the wrong path. Since I love you, I can accept anything.â
She tilted her head back. âMoreover, I donât think your previous marriage was a disgrace. Ms. Warrenâ¦
is a very good person after all.â
Dexter stared into her eyes, not detecting the slightest hint of insincerity within them.
He fell silent, then after a moment, he curved his lips into a smile. âYou are indeed considerate.â
Heatherâs smile became even more radiant.
âBy the way, will Summer be coming tomorrow?â
When he suddenly asked this, Heatherâs smile stiffened abruptly. âSheâs still ill, so she probably wonât be coming. Why do you ask?â
âYour brother-in-law, who was also your former boss, thereâs news about him.â
Arnold! Heather tried his best to stay calm, probing, âWhatâs the news?â
âThe police said that he was last seen in Rivodia before he disappeared. He should still be there, having not strayed too far.â Dexter spoke calmly, taking a sip of water. âSince Summer isnât coming, please relay this message to her on my behalf.â
Heather furrowed her brows, lost in deep thought. Dexter took note of this. âLeanne?â
She quickly regained her composure. âAh, alright. Iâll relay the message when I get back. However, Dax, how many years would Arnold be sentenced to for such a crime?â
âHow many years? Does he still have a chance of coming out?â Dexter found it amusing. âHeâll probably get twenty years at least for being an accessory to a crime.â
Heatherâs pupils slightly contracted.
