She remembered raising this dog as a child, and although Dexter knew about it, he had never seen it.
Now, after so many years, he had probably forgotten. Moreover, Heather was afraid of revealing the truth, so it was unlikely for him to see it.
That was why she responded with confidence.
âDo you want to keep it?â Dexter rested his hand on the car window.
âCanât I keep it? Mason Garden is mine now. You said so yourself.â
âWhatâs the point in keeping it?â
âSelf-defense.â
He didnât voice his opinion but glanced deeply at the worn-out appearance of Pepper and instructed Moses to drive on.
The car sped off, leaving a trail of dust. Josie, leading Pepper, was fuming with anger. âPepper,â she said, âthis man is our enemy. If you ever see him again, bite him as hard as you can.â
Pepper stuck out its tongue, unsure of how much it understood.
The Maybach pulled up in Mason Garden. Before Dexter got out of the car, he received a response from the other end: Mr. Russell, this dog is indeed the one from Olsen Residence. How did it end up with Ms. Warren?
Dexter narrowed his eyes, his expression somber.
Josie was short of staff at Wavery these days, so she could only leave Pepper at Mason Garden. After instructing Julie to take care of it, she then asked, âWhere is Mr. Russell?â
Upon hearing these words, Julieâs tone softened, as if there was a glimmer of hope. She quickly said, âMr. Russell went straight to the study as soon as he came back and hasnât come out yet. He must be very tired.â
Josie let it be.
In a moment, Julie came out holding a bowl of soup, signaling her to go.
Josie furrowed her brows. âIâm not going.â
Julie clicked her tongue. âMrs. Russell, donât be so rigid. Perhaps, he might come back if you soften a bit.â
Josie wanted to laugh. âMrs. Carroll, you should know that heâs going to have another wife in a few days.â
Julie was taken aback, then she sighed. âIn my heart, you are the only Mrs. Russell.â
A pang of sorrow hit Josie, and she took the soup without revealing what was on her mind, simply saying, âForget it.â
Larry was in the study discussing something with Dexter. There was no one standing guard outside.
Josie approached the study and was about to knock when she suddenly realized the door was not locked, and the voices from inside flowed out.
âEverything is progressing steadily. The support weâre receiving from Mr. Barrett and Mr. Shaw is unprecedented. In fact, you donât really need to prepare for the worst.â
The manâs voice was deep and resonant. âThe waters of Wavery have been muddied. She must not be drawn into this.â
Larry quickly replied, âIâve already notified the airport staff, so there wonât be any hindrances. As for the location, you can choose one.â
After a moment of silence, Dexter spoke, as if making a final decision, âLetâs choose Nalanica. The scenery there is beautiful, and itâs a good place to live. With what she has, plus what Grandpa and I gave her, she can live a worry-free life. Perhaps, she might settle down there after some time.â
As he spoke, his tone softened. âShe is capable and resilient enough to thrive anywhere.â
âYou really take care of her interests.â
âItâs a pity some people donât appreciate it.â Dexter said with a light laugh. âOnce I leave, sheâll probably hate me to death.â
Josie had been holding the soup for a while, so the tips of her fingers were burning hot.
âPerhaps Ms. Warren wouldnât react this way if she knew of your good intentions.â
âYou donât understand her,â the manâs voice was tender, his tone seemingly sighing.
After a while, Larry hesitated and said, âBut, donât you suspectâ¦â
The voice at the end of the conversation was deliberately lowered. Josieâs phone in her pocket vibrated, so she didnât hear clearly. She took out her phone and indifferently saw the message. It was todayâs hot topicâ
Liana picked up Dexter from work, and the newlywed couple displayed an intimate demeanor.
In the photo, the two were walking closely together in the parking lot. Indeed, they looked intimate.
