Asserting the moral high ground, he constantly made her question herself, gradually eroding her confidence in life. Calvin was even willing to imprison her just to torment her indefinitely.
Zendaya covered her face with both hands and cried until she nearly fainted. âWill you forgive me? Iâm sorry⦠Iâm sorry⦠I was too scared back thenâ¦â
âYou can tell Yoel that.â
The room was filled with the sound of sobbing. The door was slightly ajar, allowing light to fall on Calvinâs shoulders, yet he remained engulfed in solitude and desolation.
A sudden soft noise pierced Calvinâs ears. As if guided by an unseen force, he looked up and gazed into the distance, his eyes landing on a woman who shouldnât have been there.
Malloryâs voice was weary. Facing Josieâs astonishment, she forced a bitter smile and said, âThat happened when I was nineteen. In the blink of an eye, Iâm already twenty-three.â
So much had transpired over the years that it was impossible to recount everything at once.
Josie was already amazed. She had always believed that Mallory had many stories, but she never expected this.
âDo you have any regrets?â She clenched her fists.
Malloryâs mind wandered as she replied, âMy biggest regret is not stopping their marriage. Josie, if you have a choice, I hope you wonât end up regretting like I did.â
That was a hint.
Josie, realizing belatedly, was about to leave and pressed the button for the third floor in the elevator.
Moses noticed her unusual state and asked, âArenât we leaving?â
âI still have a friend to meet.â
âWhat friend?â
Josie looked at him. âDo you have to report everything I do and everyone I talk to to Dexter?â
Moses pursed his lips, nodding slightly.
Josie fell silent for three seconds before saying, âI am going to meet his former love rival. Go ahead and inform him.â
âLetâs just forget it, Josie.â Moses could imagine how terrifying Dexterâs expression would be. To make matters worse, Dexter had instructed him to watch over Josie alone.
If she insisted on doing something, he couldnât physically stop her.
As the elevator descended, the woman in the mirror crossed her arms and said leisurely, âWhat are you afraid of? Heâs getting married, so he wonât care about an ex-wife like me.â
Moses leaned to one side. âActually, we can all see that Ms. Olsen is not as important to him as you are. You hold a special place in his heart. Otherwise, he wouldnât have specifically asked me to follow you around.â
âHeâs just afraid that Iâll cause trouble at his wedding,â Josie replied nonchalantly.
The elevator doors slid open, and she headed straight for the internal medicine department. Inside the office, several doctors were engrossed in their work. Upon seeing the radiant and beautiful woman enter, they all paused in surprise.
Josie looked around but didnât see the person she was looking for. âExcuse me for the interruption. Is Dr. Sander here?â
Someone quickly responded, âDr. Sander is still in the middle of a surgery.â
âIâm his friend; can I wait here?â Josie asked.
âOf course.â
Matthewâs desk was cluttered with academic papers and various books. Josie sat in his chair with Moses by her side at all times.
It was as if she had brought a bodyguard with her.
âCould you please not stand in front of me? I want to rest my eyes for a bit.â Josie seemed genuinely intent on waiting for Matthew to finish his surgery.
Moses dutifully stood guard behind her. Only after confirming that she had truly fallen asleep did he allow himself a moment to stretch his limbs.
Josie opened her eyes, silently picked up the pen, and swiftly wrote a line of text on Matthewâs sticky note.
By the time Moses turned his head, Josie had already stood up. âI suddenly donât feel like waiting anymore. Letâs go.â
