Chapter 918 Eavesdropping Ryan did not respond.
She had no choice but to put on the headphones. The sound was initially fuzzy, but after a while, it became clear. To her surprise, it was Heatherâs.
âDex, the fifteenth is a big day. Would it be okay to set the wedding date on the fifteenth?â Her voice was sweet and clear.
After a moment, Dexterâs somewhat distant voice came through. âOkay. You decide.â
Josie subconsciously clenched her fist.
Heather added relentlessly, âWhat do you think of this wedding dress? If you find it beautiful, Iâll have it custom-made right away.â
Dexter seemed to glance over. âIt suits you very well.â
Heather laughed joyfully, wrapping her arms around his neck from behind. âI hope my fatherâs intentions havenât put you in a difficult position. Iâve been looking forward to being your wife ever since I was a little girl.â
Dexter chuckled lightly. âBeing able to marry you is my fortune. I should have given you more time to prepare, but the situation doesnât wait for anyone. I hope you understand.â
Heather held on tighter, a hint of nervousness in her voice as she asked, âDex, did you have a wedding ceremony when you married her?â
That question plunged both parties into a brief silence.
Josie felt a bit breathless. She and Dexter had only obtained their marriage certificate. They never had a wedding ceremony. Her grandfather had mentioned it, and so had he, but in the end, it was all left unresolved due to their busy schedules. Is he going to arrange a wedding for Heather now? Indeed, itâs only fitting for the daughter of the Olsen family to receive such treatment.
âNo.â Dexterâs voice was low.
âAm I, in any way, special, then?â Heather asked bravely.
âOf course.â
Josie removed her headphones and took a deep breath, preventing herself from suffocating.
Ryan stood to one side, silently watching her movements.
After a while, she looked up and asked, âWhat does Morgan mean by this?â
âMr. Bastille said you should reap what you sowed.â Ryan recounted. âThis computer is connected to an eavesdropping device. It can hear every move of Dexter, and no one has opened it. Mr. Bastille is giving it to you, hoping you can rest assured.â
Josie furrowed her brows. She hadnât expected Morgan to give her the computer.
From the moment he installed the bug, she thought he was going to control everything. Now, heâs actually giving me full authority? âWhat is he playing at?â
Ryan shook his head. âHe has your best interest at heart.â
Josie stared at him for a while. Then, after a moment, she chose to close the laptop and take it with her. âThank him for me.â
Ryan followed her.
âWhy are you still following me?â
âMr. Bastille insists on ensuring you get home safely.â
Josie wanted to ask why was he bothering to escort her home now when he didnât assign anyone to pick her up. However, recalling the lingering fear from earlier, she didnât refuse. âThank you.â
Coincidentally, when Josie arrived at the door, Angel was standing nearby, holding files, clearly having waited for a long time.
She saw Josie and quickly stepped forward. âMs. Jo.â Then, she noticed Ryan behind her, somewhat surprised. Her voice softened. âWhere have you been?â
Josie followed her gaze and also looked at Ryan.
âHandled some business. Whatâs the matter?â
âThese are the backlog files from the studio. I brought them over for you to sign.â
âDidnât I say to give full authority to Alice to run the company when Iâm not around?â
Angel nodded. âThese are things that Alice couldnât handle, so she asked me to bring them over.â
Josie understood and led her into the house, leaving Ryan outside. Unable to resist, Angel asked, âWhy is Mr. Garcia with you?â
Josie signed her name, her expression unchanged. âAngel, have you broken up with Jade?â
