Dexter continued to puff on his cigarette, his smile somewhat chilling. âActually, perhaps I should grant you your wish.â
Josie felt a chill running down her spine.
In the next second, Dexter again gripped the back of her neck and drew her close as he did previously.
But this time, he didnât kiss her. Instead, he brought the cigarette he had smoked before her, forcing her to place it between her lips.
Josie was on the verge of losing her mind.
The cigarette Dexter smoked was exceedingly strong, making Josie choke. Her throat stung, and she coughed so violently that she couldnât catch her breath. Tears welled up in her eyes. Nonetheless, her graceful figure was still evident in her movements.
Dexter was also feeling discomfited at the sight. âWhy have you stopped?â
Josie hadnât expected the scoundrel to remain hung up on that matter. Her soft and delicate hand rested against his leg, catching her in a dilemma of whether to continue.
âWonât Liana be upset if we do this?â Josie reminded, tilted her head back.
As she remained still, Dexterâs desire was in limbo. The cigarette was nearly burnt down to his fingertips. He frowned. âShe wonât know.â
âIs it that so? Or will she still be fine even if she knows?â Crouched between his legs. Josie softened her posture. âSince she likes you so much, will she be okay with you keeping me as a mistress even after youâre married?â
That remark was overly callous, and a chill flashed in Dexterâs eyes. âYouâre feeling me out.â
Josie readily admitted to it. âThereâs no need to do so. Itâs common knowledge that the Russell family is set to form a marriage alliance with the Olsen family.â
Dexter neither affirmed nor denied it. He snubbed out his cigarette. âYouâre different from her.â
âWhat makes us different?â Josie asked, probing further. âIs it just because sheâs the daughter of an elite family while Iâm just an ordinary person?â
Dexter stared at her, then scoffed, âIf so, youâre quite capable for an ordinary person.â
Josieâs gaze was captivating. âHave you bedded her?â
She glimpsed the sudden stiffening of his expression âYou did?â Undeniably, Josieâs heart skipped a beat when she asked that question.
However, Dexter quickly denied it. âNo.â
She was stunned for a moment. From his expression, she could tell that he wasnât lying. A subtle feeling sparked to life within her. âSo, youâve remained chaste for me, Mr. Russell.â
with that answer, she still pretended otherwise. Dexter frowned. He lifted her onto forcefully holding her down.
In spite of the constant conflicts, Josie always knew that she could never truly hate the man. He was not only her childhood playmate but also her first love.
At that moment, she tilted her head back slightly with her neck subtly elongated, exuding an indescribable.
Dexter toyed with her earlobe absentmindedly. âSever all ties with Morgan.â
Josie didnât respond to that. âThen, youâre not to marry Liana.â
As soon as she said that, she distinctly sensed him stilling in his movements. In a flash, a wave of despair flooded her. But she suppressed it.
âDonât marry her, and Iâll cut ties with Morgan.â
Dexterâs eyes that were as dark as night betrayed no emotion. He didnât respond to that.
That could almost be considered an answer.
âEven you need a marriage alliance?â Josie sneered, smirking. âI thought youâre invincible, Mr. Russell.â
Dexter dropped his hold on her, completely losing all interest. âJosie, donât take advantage of the little patience I have for you. It will only disgust me.â
Josie lay motionless, staring blankly at the ceiling.
âIf you get married, Iâll disappear completely.â
In this world, there were few who dared to threaten Dexter. Josie was one of them.
He took in her words. Then, he bent down and picked his belt up before walking out with it in his hand.
âTry it, then.â
It was a light and brief remark yet carried significant weight.
